Seahawks on Total Access

by: Michael Steffes

Much ado about nothing if you were waiting for a report. They did highlights from different games throughout the season, however they skipped Rocky falling on Alex Smith which I thought was an oversight. They also only showed the Chicago game, then mentioning the Hawks won their next 5 and skipped to the Skins Wild Card game, with out showing any of those clips. Get this, this is great-- They showed 5 Shaun Alexander highlights and ONE!!!!! Patrick Kerney highlight. Absurd. They didn't even show Kerney at all in the Skins game, where he was a wild beast. They did show Shaun get tackled and lose the ball, and then wasted a bunch of breath talking about how the fumble was reversed and the Skins return was all for naught.

As for the 08' preview, it was as predicted. They brought in Adam Schefter to talk about Holmgren being a lame duck. They also had a pretty graphic of the wide receiver depth chart, at which point Schefter said that Bobby Engram needs to step up, assuming he shows up. Blah, blah, blah. I am sure they would have talked about the new running game, but they were too busy interviewing Jerrod Mayo at the rookie symposium, and showing Chris Long spell.

Overall ** Two stars out of five. My review: very disappointing, why do I ever expect more? END Read More!

TV Guide

by: Michael Steffes

Hey everybody, I just wanted to give you all plenty of notice so that you can set your recording devices if you desire, there is some Seahawks programming this week.

Tomorrow, NFLN Total Access will be covering the Seahawks as part of their 32 teams in 32 days segment. Not sure if anybody will be in studio, but they will most certainly talk about how the team hasn't replaced Hutch, has no WR's because of Branch's Injury, and will struggle because Holmgren is a lame duck. So make sure you tune in for that. I would fully expect Marshall Faulk to pick the Hawks to lose 10 games as well.

Also, and something that I promise will be much more amusing, later on in the week, at several different times Thur, NFLN is showing an hour long version of the 2005 NFC Championship game. As you may remember that game was played at Qwest. I bet Nick Goings head is still ringing from Lofa's hit too. So tune in, or set your recorders to watch Steve Smith completely disappear, except for a punt return in which a obvious flag was picked up, probably because the refs felt sorry for Carolina. This is clearly the marquee game in Seattle Seahawks history. I Couldn't let you miss it. END Read More!

Bo VS The Boz

by: Michael Steffes

A new series is premiering on the NFLN tonight, which will air classic games in their entirety, with the original announcing. Quite a good idea, considering yesterday I was thinking how badly this world needs real summer football. There is nothing even worth watching on a Sunday afternoon.

Anyway, as part of the the series, on July 14th, they will be airing the Bo vs Boz Monday night game from the Kingdome. The game took place on 11/30/87. I would much rather have a game that doesn't paint the Hawks in that light, but having a classic game on the tube that Monday is pretty cool.

I will remind all of you as the date gets a little closer. END Read More!

The Fourth Down Fumble

by: Michael Steffes

For those of you playing along at home, the Seahawks will be on tomorrow as part of the NFLN's replay series. The Hawks will be on at 10am and 5:30pm PST.

The game is the Seahawks v Rams from week 12 of last year. This game will for ever be remembered for Gus Ferotte fumbling on the 1 yard line, on a fourth down with time expiring. However, just pointing that out would be unfair to Will Witherspoon, who has a monster game for the Rams, almost single handedly stymieing the Hawks first half offense. But... A big return from Josh Wilson, and a second half surge allow the Hawks to take the lead and hold on by the skin of their teeth for victory.

Also featured, if I remember right... A crushing blow from Leroy Hill which knocks Marc Bulger out of the game. The Hawks seemed to have a knack for knocking QB's and RB's out of the game, and this was a pretty, pretty play. Pat Kerney also had a monster game with 3 sacks, a fumble recovery, and an interception on the play in which Bulger exits. Read More!

Nasty Nate in Studio on Total Access

by: Michael Steffes

Anybody who gets the NFLN should check out Total Access tonight. Nate Burleson is a co host, as part of players week. Apparently he was named the best dressed athlete by Maxim in 2006. He has a different custom tailored suit for every opponent. Who Knew? He is wearing his Rams suit in studio. Rich Eisen is drooling.

~~Nate believes, and he says that most players agree (he thinks) that Pacman Jones has done his time and should be allowed back in the league. He said he doesn't like the idea of the Boys getting another playmaker, but he hopes on Thanksgiving we see mostly Seahawks highlights.

~~Nate also called out Deon Sanders for not putting him in the Prime Time Plays, he claimed he was robbed that his punt return in Cleveland didn't make it. Eisen told him he has to "hold it up". Nate says he will do it, but he has to talk to Holmgren about it first.

~~Nate says being the only veteran Wide Receiver working out is hard, but at the same time he enjoys helping out the young guys, having the young guys looking up to him and asking him questions about the offense.

~~Nate says he wants to be known as a top special teams return man, but Holmgren has told him that he may not let him return kicks until they get some guys up to speed.

~~ Nate said playing for Holmgren this year is like having a substitute teacher. While he knows eventually the teacher will be gone, the info he is learning will still be on the test so to speak. In other words, he realizes that he better not be slacking off. Read More!

Programming Note

by: Michael Steffes

Just in case anybody is interested, I thought I would alert you all to the NFLN schedule for tomorrow. They will be showing the 90 min NFL Replay version of the Seahawks vs Bears game from Qwest field last year. It will broadcast at 11:30 AM PST and at 7 PM PST as well.

If you watch, you will see the Seahawks defense give Cedric Benson his best run of the year, but then entirely shut him down. You will see "Wrecks" Grossman knocked around like a $2 pinata, eventually fumbling the game away. On the Seahawks end, this game may make you long for the days of old, as DJ Hackett goes OFF! Also, you will see Josh Brown light up Devin Hester like few have, with a clean shot to the mouth. Even if he is a total assclown, that was still a heck of a play. One I will always remember. Ahhh the Good Times

by: Michael Steffes

If you are interested in seeing something that the Seahawks hope you won't see again this year or in any upcoming year, tune in to the NFLN tomorrow. They are replaying week 9.

NFLN will be re-broadcasting the Seahawks/Cleveland NFL Replay twice, at 2:30 PST and at 10PM PST. You will see what it looks like when a team is disturbingly bad at converting short yardage situations. You can also see Nate take a punt return 90 yards to the house and do a Lebron James taunt to the fans, a personal favorite of mine.

Of course as a juxtaposition, you will see Jamal Lewis convert several short yardage situations, mostly set up by unbelievable TE play. Starting in 08', I feel confident that the Hawks will be a team who converts in the red-zone due to power running and solid tight ends. So consider this a sneak preview of sorts. As far as agonizing defeats go, I think this is one I might be able to stomach watching again. END Read More!

NFL Live & the NFC West

by: Michael Steffes

ESPN's NFL Live crew previewed the NFC West today. Here are the highlights.

Todd McShay liked the 49ers draft the best. He says that Balmer and Richal are solid not sexy.

John Clayton calls the Seahawks the most improved team in the division, citing Wahle, Solari, Carlson, and the new backfield. He says improved offense equals most improved team. If he is right, watch out NFC! Of course this prompted the studio crew to refer to Clayton as a homer.

All of this, of course, didn't stop Quadry Ismail from making the Cardinals the team to beat in the NFC West. How many years in a row have you gone with that pick? Wake me when it actually happens. Floyd Reese disagreed and said the Hawks are still the team to beat. That is why he was a general manager, and Ismail was a crappy receiver.

Please feel free to bash ESPN's knowledge of the Hawks all you want in the comments section. Their coverage is terrible. END Read More!

Schedule Out Tomorrow

by: Michael Steffes

As many of you have pointed out in the comments, the schedule is coming out tomorrow. There is a schedule release show that will be covered by NFL Network, which I will of course be watching.

Is there any interest in a live blog to cover the show?? It is on at 11am PST, 2pm EST. Leave a comment if you would be interested in such an endeavor. Either way, I will spend most of the day breaking down the schedule. END Read More!

Thank the Heavens

by: Michael Steffes

Here is some news that flat out makes my weekend. Mike Florio at Profootballtalk.com is reporting that Bryant Gumbel is out, as the play by play man for NFL Network. This is simply fantastic news. Maybe some of you liked Gumbel. I felt he made the broadcasts close to unwatchable.

He often called players with their wrong first names. He showed little knowledge of the game itself. However most of all, he was just boring. I am sure many viewers like me, excited about an extra prime time game, were displeased with his work from the very beginning. It is not clear who will replace him, however, Tom Hammond did a fine job working with Collinsworth during two games last year, including the Seahawks wild card game. END Read More!

NFLN Editorial

by: Strategerie

A response to the NFL Network’s “State of the Franchise” feature

Dear NFL Network:

There were many questionable “facts” in your featured report on the Seahawks, but one stuck out for me. It was outright erroneous, and I wonder to myself who does your research, or if you bother with it at all. After all, it’s just the Seahawks, isn’t it? Who cares about them?

To Continue....

Your reporter (Rod Woodson) stated that Patrick Kerney and Darryl Tapp are “undersized” defensive ends. I spent about five minutes doing research this afternoon, and I can unequivocally prove that you are wrong. You might also want to alert the rest of the league that they’re sending “undersized” DE’s out onto the field. It would be nice if you’d admit your bias against the Seahawks, but it will happen right about the time we’re building snowmen in Hell, won’t it?

Here’s my research: Read and learn. Here is a comparison of 10 teams, all who work from a base 4-3 defense. The sample includes teams from the lowly Falcons, to the middling Panthers, to the last two Superbowl Champs. While the Seahawks' defensive ends do not top the list in size, it is unfair to proclaim them undersized by any means. Our defense is fast and lethal to opponents’ passing games, and we like it that way. Do I need to remind you clowns that up till the last game vs Atlanta, we boasted the second lowest points scored against us in the NFL last season? Also until the final game, our undersized defensive end Patrick Kerney was leading the league in sacks. Without further ado, I present my findings.

Beat Reporter Review

by: Michael Steffes

Frank Hughes from the TNT, made his debut performance this morning on ESPN's First Take (I liked Cold Pizza Better!). So here at Seahawk Addicts, we thought we would give him a little review, and also talk about his pick... which, will probably heavily influence his review.

First off, nice outfit Frank! Digging the black shirt. Covered the basics well... Team would love to get Jonathan Stewart, would consider Brandon Albert if he was there and will take the tight end later in the draft. Spot on analysis.

It didn't hurt that he chose Keith Rivers, an excellent selection Frank. He said Rivers would provide insurance in case Leroy Hill left, and add depth this year because the Hawks lost their primary back ups in free agency. Where have I heard that before? Anyway, I am impressed. Good work Frank. END Read More!

State Of The Franchise

by: Michael Steffes

Well that was pointless. They didn't even talk to anyone. Of course, tomorrow, Maurice Jones Drew is coming in studio to do the Jaguars.

Oh and did I hear Rod Woodson miss call Maurice Morris, Mercury Morris. Yeah...

In the "you don't say" category, Mike Wahle might finally be the guy to replace Steve Hutchinson.

Oh, and By the way, the Seahawks are screwed at WR because Bobby is over the hill and they don't have anybody else even worth mentioning.

So with their first pick, it would make sense that they select Kentwan Balmer right. Of course it does. By the way, does anybody else find it funny that Chuck Darby and Ellis Wyms were undersized and over matched when on the Hawks, but now the Seahawks have lost some very good defensive tackles.

I will update when they show the top ten plays. To read the plays they showed...

10) Tru pick against the Rams
9) Engram over the shoulder against the Falcons
8) Morris big run against the Eagles
7) Bobby's catch in Green Bay, the force out
6) Bobby's shoestring grab against the Cards at home
5) Nate TD catch against the Saints
4) Josh Wilson's Kickoff return TD against the Rams(week 12)
3)Nate's kickoff return against the Rams (week 7)
2) Marcus Trufants punt return against the Skins in the playoff game (don't correct me, I know)
1)Nate's punt return TD, with Lebron James taunt, vs the Browns.

Great to watch em again, at least.

Banner Day for Seahawk Coverage

by: Michael Steffes

UPDATE-- Oops My Bad, Frank Hughes won't be on till Wednsday. Stay tuned till then. Devin Thomas was the Titans pick. Rivers remains available. Read why the Hawks need a linebacker above.

In case you were unaware, I thought I would inform you that there is quite a bit of national exposure for the Seahawks tomorrow. First, between 7-9 am, on ESPN's First Take, Frank Hughes of The News Tribune will be a guest, to select the player for the Seahawks in a media mock draft.

Frank, do the right thing and take Keith Rivers. He is by far the best player on the board, how he is there I don't know, but he also fills a need.

Also, tomorrow on NFLN Total Access, the will be covering the Seahawks in their "state of the franchise" segment. So far, most of those have included an in studio guest. For the Seahawks, i bet they get someone on the phone. Also, generally, the show ends with the top 10 Seahawks plays of last year, so it should be worth watching, I hope.

Anyway, if you didn't know these were on, now you do. Set your tivo. Hope this helps. END Read More!

On The Clock.....VIDEO ADDED

Well, with Mr. Tatupu's deal out of the way, and quite a few sleepless nights next offseason averted, we can move back to upcoming draft.

ESPN, everybody's favorite Hawk talkers, has the Seattle Seahawks...On The Clock... tonight. Here is the accompanying article by Scouts Inc, it really says a lot with out really saying anything. It is rather incredible actually. It does manage to fit in most of the national stereotypes of the Seahawks though.

Either way, tune in, if you must, to see Jaws, Kiper, and crew talk about who the Hawks won't actually pick. It will be featured on Sportscenter. I will add the video when it becomes available.

Also, for those who get NFL Network, they are replaying the Bengals game on Sunday. They replayed the Cardinals game last week, but I forgot to tell you, and you would have to be a sadist to wanna watch that one anyway. The Bengals game is a different story.

UPDATE-- If you tend to anger easily, don't watch this segment on Sportscenter. When ever Mel Kiper says something like, "yeah he was a one year wonder"... and "yeah he dropped some balls in his bowl game." Oh Boy!

To see the video....

NFL Live... Hawks Season Preview

In their coverage of 32 teams in 32 days, ESPN's NFL Live looked at the Seahawks today. If you missed it I am sure it will be on later, and if ESPN posts a video, I will add it to this post. In the meantime, here is a summary.....

Hasselback was on, and asked a couple of the big offseason questions. First he said that Holmgren leaving will inspire the team to really get after it, not that they wouldn't have already. Also, he thinks that the transition to Mora is no big deal because they have "great guys" and "great leadership" on this team. Also, he said he knows nothing about Shaun other than he is rehabbing. He said that every year he expects to see new people on the team, and it is always hard because you make friends with guys.

Marcellus Wiley had the quote of the show, when he said Shaun Alexander is a "turf monster". Which means while the rest of the guys are looking to hit, you are looking for a nice piece of turf to fall on. He then proceeded to question 37's heart.

Todd McShay was a little kinder, saying he thinks Shaun can still play in the right system. He thinks the Seahawks will look at Dustin Keller in the first. Might be a little high to take him, but he fits what the Hawks like to do with the TE perfectly. END

For those lucky minions who understand the true value of satellite tv and therefore get the NFL Network, ok and for all those other fans who get it to.....

Tonight on Path to the Draft and Total Access, The Seahawks are on the clock. This pretty much means that, despite their location right up the street from my house, several people who have very little knowledge of anything Seahawks related, talk about how the Seahawks will probably take a QB or WR in the first round because Holmgren is the coach.

Another possibility is that they will bring up Hutch leaving and suggest that we take a guard. Or maybe if were lucky, they will say it was a mistake to let Stevens go and that we need a tight end.

Seriously Folks, I am just having fun with Seahawk ignorant national media, but now, really, do you have any other choice but to tune in and see what they say? They should hire me to do marketing!

Of course if you don't get NFLN, SeahawkAddicts.com will breakdown all the relevant info right after the show. Read More!

For Those Who Like to Torture Themselves

In an effort to canonize Brett Favre, the NFL Network will be replaying the Seahawks-Packers 2004 (2003 Season) Playoff game tomorrow at 5pm PST.

If you don't remember this game I will give you a hint...The Qb wants the ball and he's gonna....oops, my bad. I say just watch it so you can see former Seahawk Greats like Kerry Carter, Anthony Simmons, Josh Brown, and Shaun Alexander. Oops, he is still on the team. Either way, he looks like TJ Duckett as he scores from short 3 times. Check it out! Read More!
