After the termination of OC Jeremy Bates there was a lot of rumors that Josh McDaniels was in talks with the Seahawks to fill the Offensive Coordinator position. The Rams announced just a few minutes ago that McDaniels was hired as their Offensive Coordinator. Something tells me that the Rams heard that McDaniels could be hired by Seattle and someone in the front office agreed to pay top dollar. Good for the Rams!
Seattle just announced the hiring of the Raider's former coach Tom Cable as the assistant head coach and offensive line coach. Tom was over his head as the coach of the Raiders. He is great with offense though. He knows the ZBS scheme. This is a great hire. Despite what the media says about Cable, he knows his stuff. He was a direct offensive descendant of Alex Gibbs.
Other coaching changes have occurred for the Seahawks within the last few minutes as well. Todd Wash was hired for the defensive line. He worked with Gus Bradley in Tampa Bay. Seattle also promoted Kris Richard from asst. DB coach to DB coach and Rocky Seto from quality control coach to safeties coach.
So far nothing on the Offensive Coordinator position. There has been talks about Jim Zorn and Ex Hawks' QB coach Jedd Fisch. More to come soon!
I've watched Cable run the Raiders for years. (i live in the Bay area)
i've heard how he beat an asistant coach and lied about doing it, in fact Al has been fining him for the trouble he caused.
Cable has MULTIBLE attacks on women.
The Seahawks won't use a PLAYER that has had those problems. We wouldnt go after Vick because of his back ground.
WHY o WHY would we put an ANIMAL like that in charge of our boys?
This just dosent seem like our kind of hire.
I've loved the team since they were born, and i'll love them forever but this move doesn't feel very good at all.
oh, my bad...
I think that we will probably have a very different line next year, just because that is how Pete rolls...
Cable will make them be at least average, and so I think Beast and Leon (sorry JForce?) will get some yards next year. No rap on Forsett, I just think Leon is too good to waste sitting on the bench and only returning kicks
What about Willis is he going to be healthy. I can't even remember what he did but he was a beast at RT. I think he said Pouncy at LG. I like Gibson better than Spencer at RG.
My question mark is Unger. I was deeply underwhelmed with him before he was injured, (altho his "Man" status is insane playing the whole game with a shoeful of blood)
But, his "grit" aside, is he able to manhandle his assignment?, or was he getting beat regularly?
Blender, are you suggesting Pouncy to play the RT?
If we got Kalil, would/could Spencer slide to RG?
Are we all thinking Andrews isn't the stud he should be with his enormous size? Maybe at RT (where he belongs) he could utilize his skills better...
Does anyone know if the Raidahs ran a ZBS ? Those guys have been killing people running the ball, and McFadden was really hitting his stride, but I have been waiting for that cuz he is a real beast. Al Davis firing Caable was IMHO a stupid mistake, and I think Cable was really getting them to be a tough match-up.
I think we are lucky to get him! A little attitude on the O-line baby. I want some NASTY up there!
Sluggo: How about Ryan Kalil (Pro Bowl Center) Free agent who went to USC, and Mike Pouncey (Left Guard) out of Florida in the first round. All of a sudden we would have a really scary good line.
Okung LT Pouncey LG Kalil C Unger RG Locklear/late round RT to compete
Cable is a GREAT hire.
One o-line FA, One Draft pick, and Beastmode will rock
Never a dull day in Hawksville eh?
I think that Cable is a great hire. He has a lot of experience, and he has already punched out one of his coaches; talk about competition at all levels.
Judging by the Raiders running game, I'd say Cable is a huge acquisition. I also think he brings the right attitude. He also clearly understands how to prepare for divisional games ( :
SoCalHawksFan - Mind me asking at what level you coached? It mst be a hoot for you to see some of the comments on these boards (like most of mine) where we really don't know a thing about playing/coaching football but are sure we know stuff when it comes to our team :)
It's rather obvious we need serious improvement on the oline, IDK about Cable, was he part of the Bronco's coaching staff back in the hey-day? Was he the guy that brough the running game in Oakland up over the last few years? He sure does have the look of an o-line guy.
I wonder whats in store for the oline in terms of players. Do we continue to add a one or two developemental talents or do we get reall agressive in a revamp? Fan opinion is that we need a right guard and a left tackle; I wonder what the FO and new coaches will think...
Yeah i like the new comment system since I figured it out. I don't know who would be the best OC. I like that we have a cornerbacks coach and safeties coach. Hopefully that will help out our secondary.
Agree with all posts. Wow, these Hawks never take a day off even while the bruising from Sunday's butt-kiciking in Chicago is just starting to fade! As for the new OC, I like Bevell from the Vikes. He has ties to John Schneider and will have a desire to run the ball having just watched AP tear up the league the past few seasons. Also, the Vikes were known for a verticle pass offense and free agent-to-be Sidney Rice may be a good fit here once the new CBA is in place for Free Agents to sign. Just a thought, but none the less, he would make a good OC hire.
I like the way the organization is operating. No complaining, no spats in media. If you don't perform, you are gone. No better motivator.
I concur on the Tom Cable hire. Hopefully he can leave his personal baggage behind in Oakland.
I think Jim Zorn would be a great addition as a QB coach but probably not the best at OC. We need someone with a proven system to come in and start as soon as possible, working with our young talent.
Love the move to pick up Cable. Great job! This is encouraging. He is a beast with the O line. I was an O line coach and I'm telling you, this guy is a stud with GIbbs ZBS. In fact, I think his ZBS scheme is a better fit in todays game against D line and LB cores than even that of Gibbs. I expect a marked improvement in our running game. Also, though he is a ZBS guy, he likes big and quick dudes where are Gibbs preferred smaller O line guys that were getting manhandled my D lines that are now big and quick. As much as I coached and dig ZBS, at the end of the day you got to be nasty on straight up blocking to give your QB protection. Cable gets this.
Not sure about Zorn. I love the guy and am nostalgic, but he seems one-dimensional and a bit dated to me as an OC. Might just be me though.
I love PC's "compete now!" attitude. Keep 'em coming FO!
I like the Cable hire and really glad they didn't get McDouchebag. Kinda weird they fired Bates after only 1 season, though. Hopefully Pete has something good planned for OC.
Didn't Jedd Fisch leave for the college ranks? University of Miami, I think? I would welcome Jim Zorn back, but I doubt that will happen.
