As you might have noticed, there isn't a whole lot going on with the Seahawks as of late. Defensive backs coach Rocky Seto might be leaving for a college gig, but he's only been DB coach for a couple weeks so that wouldn't be a particularly big loss. Otherwise, it's been quiet while everyone gets ready to watch the Packers do their best to cripple a sex offender on national television.
Hopefully after the Super Bowl we can expect more news about the Draft and other offseason-related things to start trickling out (assuming there will be a real offseason at all, but more on that later).
In the meantime, here's the menu for the 2011 draft. Anyone want to start ordering?
Hmmmmm......There is a rumor the Hawks may pull the trigger on a QB.
This was just posted on Rotoworld:
According to NFL Network's Albert Breer, Seattle is "seriously consider pulling the trigger on a new signal-caller in the first round." The Seahawks are slated to pick at No. 25, but getting such a low draft pick (they would have picked No. 8 overall had they lost in Week 17) may have thrown a wrench in their plans. As it stands, Nevada's Colin Kaepernick, Arkansas' Ryan Mallett, and Washington's Jake Locker could be available, but the Hawks will need to trade up if they want to land Missouri's Blaine Gabbert or Auburn's Cam Newton.
I hope we don't make a run for Cam Newton. He and his father have proved themselves to be complete slimebags. C'mon......Not knowing your dad was at the BCS Championship game but amazingly finding him a crowd of thousands?
Private workout before the combine?
I am curious to see what that browner and pinkard have both are over 6 feet tall. They could be good pickups with thurmond. I know pinkard was on the roster at the end of the year but he was injured most of the year. we have a really young secondary. hopefully with some good coaching and a pass rush they could improve this year.
Drafting Jake Locker will put the franchise in a five year hole. I like the kid, but he is not NFL material. He has shown throughout his career a lack of accuracy, and an inability to go through his progression and read defenses. If the biased Dawg fans can be realistic, they would see that.
I like drafting a six foot corner at #25. My first choice is Jimmy Smith out of Colorado, he is a 6-2 shut down corner. Smith seems to be shooting up draft boards these days with many mocking him in the top ten. A second choice is one of Earl Thomas' former teammates, Aaron Williams. Williams doesn't have the polished cover skills that Smith has, but he is a one on one cover corner that is needed in this defense.
It seems we still have issues with depth on the O Line and D Line and have needs at starting CB. We can add some through free agency - Gallery at LG and maybe have a long shot at Asomugha at CB - but my thought is that we need to parlay our late 1st round pick into two or three other picks - say a 2nd and 3rd or something along those lines.
Lets get one of these DEs. Its a deep draft at the position and someone like JJ Watt or Ryan Kerrigan might fall to 25. If not there is still Cameron Heyward, Cameron Jordan, Alton Smith, and Muhammed Wilkerson. All would be worth the 25th pick.
@shawnhuskyfan81 but a few of those guys are overpriced clones of guys available later. this is, as you said, a deep draft. not to mention, DE is one of our smallest "starter needed" type needs. we have clammons and bryant so depth would be better for De. You dont use a first rounder on depth.
watched some tape on Nate Davis. I think he did better in his preseason games than Whitehurst has. There was definate progression each game and he seems to have great touch and accuracy to combine with a rocket arm when needed. Put him with a great QB coach or a smart (it doesnt need to be a great) quarterback which we have in Matt, Davis could develop very well.
id like to see us trade down to the late second (hell, maybe trade down with the raiders cause they dont have a first and will want to replace nnamdi) and snag a first next year. we would lose little and be able to go after Luck/Barkley next year. (i think Carroll wants barkley like no other prospect before him)
With the #25 pick the Seattle Seahawks select..... Jack Locker!!! Then of course they resign Mathew "talkin sh*t to DB's" Hasselbeck to a 2 year deal. 2nd Round... Take a big fat OL or a 5'11" or above DB..Copper Cart this Weekend for a live proformance of: Blue and Green!!!
@BeauArsenault so what you are suggesting is that we settle on a QB that needs a LOT of time to develop while hurting ourselves in the long run by not waiting for a better prospect (Mallet and Locker have "bust" written all over them) If we traded down and got a first next year (Schneider likes to stock up on picks) we would be contenders for a better prospect in Luck or Barkley and we could stay in the second round this year/early third and take one of the many players that would be around as the draft seems very deep in linemen and corners which are our two most glaring needs.
@BeauArsenault Are we still talking about Jack locker?
I was only kidding:)
Regarding Davis' accuracy.........
Looks good to me. Yes, not 100% accurate but the majority
of those passes are M.O.N.E.Y. On a side note, this only shows one INT that was not his fault. I'd rather see a QB in distress throwing it away/in the ground, than throw a pick.....There is also this:
Sorry, I've posted this a few times but....Damn, its beautiful.
@BobRoss46n2 My bad. Jake Locker... I think if they resign Matt to a 2 year deal, that will allow him to help groom Jake or Ryan Mallet with studying film, work effort, etc for 2 years, till he is read. Nate Davis has some talent, but more like practice squad guy.. He's got legs to run, but no accuracy.
@BeauArsenault did you even watch locker play this season let alone in the senior bowl? He showed horrible field vision and an inability to win games. He is a poor prospect with a steadily decreasing ceiling. He will drop to the second round after the miserable senior bowl that raised more questions for the QB that needed to prove himself.
@BeauArsenault Who's Jack Locker?
