Week 7 - Seahawks Lose (R-Rated Thread)
Written by Matthew Heuett on .
Damn it.
The Seahawks' defense rattled Smith, which is good, but Wilson completed just 36.36% of his passes for barely over 100 yards. His receivers have a big share in the blame for that (they allowed multiple passes to bounce off their hands), but the rookie QB still has a habit of putting his o-linemen in impossible situations with his scrambling. I also have a problem with Bevell not taking advantage of the 49ers' tired run defenders and ramming the ball down their throats with Lynch and Turbin. Come-from-behind victories are exciting and all, but you can't count on them happening every single week.
Also, the 49ers have a hell of a pair of guards on their offensive line. Gore and Hunter owe at least half their yardage tonight to those two bruisers.
Feel free to get the swearing out of your system in the comments below.
Okay Hawk fans, I just heard the news that Doug Baldwin sprained his ankle. I don't know how long he will be out, but it sounds like this week Dwayne Bowe might be on the trading block. This week is the trade deadline and I think the Hawks are in desperate need of another great set of hands. Tate has proven to be a big play guy, and an inconsistent play guy. He is also fairly small. It is my opinion that we should make a move to get Bowe. From the sounds of it, the Chiefs might be willing to trade him for just a 4th round draft pick. Not a bad deal? I don't know much about his sideline behavior or whether or not he is a trouble maker off the field, but I do know that he is awesome on the field and PC makes it very clear that off the field troubles will never be tolerated.
What do you guys think? Should we be the team that tries to get Bowe?
Flynn was a mistake. Besides he's been hurt for five of seven weeks with an injured shoulder. Bevell is ruining Wilson with long developing plays which is also why our O Line is 2nd in penalties. As for 5 dropped balls...two for TD's what's the score? It's a win. Wilson has struggled badly but it's because Bevell is trying to turn him into a pocket QB with straight drops and long developing routes and he's not a pocket QB. Some say you can't win with a scrambling QB I say you can't win when you won't use a QB's talents to your favor. Bevell should be coaching high school. He's so far out of his league.
@hawkiefan Lets not forget it was also Bevells idea to bring in TJack last year too. I think Bevell is a joke. The dropped passes were absolutely game changers and would have made a huge difference in the game. You can't score points when your offense is not on the field! I do think we should have started the season with Flynn, however I don't think we should try to change them out now. I think our receivers need to get some extra stick-em on their gloves and Bevell should be fired immediately.
I also think Gus Bradley needs a slap across his face. He has done a real good so far, but there is no reason why Gore gets to have ALL of his biggest games against the Hawks. To watch him continually run right up the middle untouched is inexcusable! Where were the linebackers? Are we trying to rush from the edges when we know its going to be a run play? It was very disappointing to say the least.
I agree that the play calling is bad on any level, but field awareness has nothing to do with play calling. I give that at least one of those dropped passes would have probably been a TD, but if a quarter back only has one TD in him and if you miss that play you're screwed as a team is pretty sad. Wilson is not ready for this level of play. Like I said before there are glimpses of a future for him, its just not now. As for Flynn being a mistake its tough to say since we haven't had the chance to see him suck. We've seen 6 weeks of it from Wilson. @hawkiefan
I am so baffled by the love of Russell Wilson. I have seen him live and on TV 7 times now, and he is unimpressive at best. He had mediocre PRESEASON games against back ups. He had one good game against a horrible pass defense in the Patriots. Other than that he has been awful. The fact that the Seahawks have the number one rated defense in the NFL, and number 3 rated rushing game, solid special teams including one of the best punters, that only leaves one thing missing on the field: A passing game. You can say all you want about dropped passes, but 5 dropped passes don't keep good QB's from winning games. He has little to no field awareness. He misses wide open receivers on the regular because he won't turn his head, runs into defensive players behind his line because he rolls away from his blockers, and when I saw him live vs the Cardinals he blew at least 3 plays where Sydney Rice was wide open 10 yards off the line and didn't even get a look. This guy might have the ability to do something later on down the road, but the Hawks went after a player in Flynn that any other team would be starting if they had picked him up. I can't imagine he is so bad that keeping him behind one of the lowest rated QB's in the league makes sense. I like Carroll, but think at this point he doesn't want to admit a mistake. Either that or Flynn banged his wife.
Yeah, you expressed what a lot of us have been sensing. In spite of Gruden's man crush and the Tebow like fingers to Heaven, 100+ passing yards a game won't get er done in the NFL. It's easy to point fingers at the coaches, but to some extent their play calling reflects what they think the QB is capable of. The one good game was against a weak pass defense with two rookies at safety. Even a young QB has to perform against a tough rush and good DB's.
Flynn might still be hurting. If not, and Wilson flounders in his next game, Carroll should make the switch, even if it's just an experiment. We need to find out if the weak passing game is caused by Wilson or something else.
@MikeRoddy Completely agree. I'm not saying that Flynn is the answer to our prayers. All I am saying is that I just can't grasp the blind infatuation people have with Wilson. Every time he has a bad game there are a 100,000 people ready to stand up and say why it isn't his fault. When he had his only good game it was a wave of "I told you he was good". If you have to get that excited when a QB does his job it says a lot about what he is doing the rest of the time.
@MichaelMoreno come on man... What blind admiration? You're allowed to be sarcastic but at least make it intelligent.
@KyleHobbs thank you for proving my point that there is this blind admiration for a guy who has proven absolutely nothing. excuses upon excuses as to why its not his fault. that was the whole point of my post: for some reason this guy has a Jesus like following for no reason. All hail Russell Wilson!!! He's a rookie yeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!
I can't jump off the bandwagon yet. Fact is he didn't put up mediocre numbers in preseason, they were really pretty good. Flynn's numbers we're dismal. That point aside I think this game we we're almost surely to lose before passes started skipping out of hands.
*The Niners just got embarrassed 4 days before on their home turf in a game that was supposed to be a revenge game.
*The Hawks were coming off an emotional come from behind victory against the best offense in the NFL. The let down was similar to what we saw after the GB game (this tends to be true with many young teams).
*We played away (not our strong suit)
*We played away on a thursday. The short turn around sucks for the away team. Home teams are 5-1 on TNF this year.
That was before the first snap!
Now once the game started we had a few things going against us.
*Rookie QB facing a home team with some of the best pass rusher in the business.
*A terrible 'off day' for receivers. There's no excuse for those drops. That is a complete waste of time and it doesn't help a defense that's hoping for a few minutes of breather time.
*Nice play calling Bevel!! You dip shit, this reminded me of the Rams game. We can move the ball at will on the ground and have zero success through the air but you're calling for passes on 3rd and short. If your QB is a rookie who's playing like crap and your probowl RB is pounding the defense then you run. Over and over and over. Jesus man, haven't you learned!
Anyways, I understand the Wilson criticism but he responds well to adversity. I expect this team to recover and put the hurt on the Lions. Fact is, no one expected this (rookie QB) to be an instant success. Y'all entitled to your opinion but this particular fan is gonna hold out. Rookie QBs are a work in progress. They face one of the best Ds in the game, on a 4 day turnaround, after and emotional win, on the road... I'm actually surprised it was that close.
Don't see the Hawks doing much in the playoffs any more, and they might not get there.
The defensive line is full of slighty better than average players, linebackers are a notch above that, DB's
the best in the conference. If the Hawks are going to beat SF, they need a DT who can command a double
team, keeping Gore from running up the middle untouched. We also need a quality possession wideout for short routes when first down yardage is needed. With those two players via free agency in the offseason, we could compete
for a title next year. Right now these holes plus QB inexperience are too much to overcome.
I've been screaming at the TV for too long. I can't count the number of times I've screamed at Bevell. I think he's the worst offensive coordinator in football. Echoing the message layed out before me; slow developing routes on third and short seem to be his M.O. The Niners were creeping up their LBs into the line of scrimmage throughout the entire second half and yet only one slant thrown the entire game?? Just because Tate can't catch a ball doesn't mean the other receivers can't. Why is Tate starting?? He drops balls and he doesn't block. Why isn't Pro Bowler Zach Miller more involved? Why is the man with the best hands only getting one or two balls per game thrown at him...Rice? As for the interception last night...did anyone else see that Edwards didn't even make an attempt at the play? Why is Irvin only third down player? Stop labeling him as only a pass rusher and only putting him in on third down when most teams are passing on second down these days. If you want to help the rookie qb, check downs to miller and lynch all day!! Peet, don't lose your job because of Bevell!!! Fire him!!! And tell your receivers coach to get those lazy asses to run crisper routes and keep moving and BLOCK!!
Booooooo. You can't win games without TD's. The dropped passes just sucked! Great passes even, right on the numbers and Turbin's could have been for 6. That takes away the confidence of the passer because he does not see the replays to know that it was not him.
If I were to point a finger for why we did not win this game, I would blame Gus Bradley and Darrell Bevell. Gus should have made some sort of adjustment to stop the bleeding straight up the gut over and over and over again. How is it that Gore always has his best games on the ground against the Hawks? We have to make adjustments!!! Regarding our offensive play calling, stop f***ing passing on 3rd and short! If we are having success with the run, keep running! Guess what? Thats what our opponents did...,,,,, and they won. Enough said.
This really sucks!!! I could curse every last one of those receivers out for all the drop balls!! We really needed that win. I hope PC works them real hard this week
I really hope the Seahawks don't keep up this lose-win-win pattern they've got going right now. Yes, that would give them a 10-6 record, but the way the schedule works out they'd also end up with a 1-5 division record.
I think I'd like to put down the highlighter this week and break down the play-by-play stats with a book of matches instead.
