The Chargers' offense appears to have suffered a major blow today, as SD beat reporter Kevin Acee reports explosive rookie RB Ryan Mathews has a high ankle sprain.
Even still, Mathews says he "feels good" and hopes to play at Qwest Field on Sunday. But as Hawks fans already know, the chances of a sudden and miraculous 4-day recovery from a high ankle sprain is about as likely as Brett Favre retiring before he turns 60. Expect to see RBs Mike Tolbert and Darren Sproles split the load on the ground this weekend. The Hawks run defense has looked stout and effective so far this season, but they'll have their hands full with that pesky midget Sproles. Maybe Red Bryant will just eat him alive with some A1 sauce.
In a somewhat related item, Chargers WR Malcolm Floyd also missed practice today with a hamstring injury. His status for Week 3 is also up in the air, which only means more good news for the Seahawk pass defense. They'll already have their hands full enough with Antonio Gates.
