LB Leroy Hill appeared Wednesday in an Issaquah municipal court, stemming from a domestic violence charge from an April 10 incident inside his home.
In a move that's probably delaying the inevitable, Hill's attorney submitted for a continuance on the hearing, which was granted by the presiding judge. Hill will reappear in court June 11 at 9 a.m. But this isn't the only cause for concern the troubled linebacker is facing lately.
The domestic violence charge came just 10 days after Hill was sentenced to 12 months' probation for having marijuana in his car after falling asleep at the wheel in Douglas County, GA. If prosecutors decide there's enough evidence to pursue a case out of Hill's most recent charge, it will prompt solicitor-general Brian Fortner to revoke his probation. The result of that action is usually a prison sentence, and the outlook of Hill's entire situation is looking dimmer by the minute.
“I would say the odds are now that we are probably going to move forward to remove his probation,” Fortner said. “It doesn’t mater who you are, you need to be on your best behavior. That’s the reality.”
From the sound of this, the Seahawks have to start planning for life without Leroy Hill with the defense. The only positives for the team regarding this situation are that linebacker is a pretty deep area on the roster, with tons of talent at all three spots, and that Hill is already overpaid as it is. Aaron Curry and David Hawthorne should have a monster season in 2010, and Lofa Tatupu will start the season 100 percent recovered from pectoral surgery.
So what now? The Hawks are playing it smart by keeping Hill away from OTAs, but his trade value is diminishing faster than Marc Bulger's arm. At this point, Hill is an off-the-field liability, and he'll be lucky to even so much as see the field next year -- especially in this group of linebackers.
