Rob Sims and Chris Spencer, plus an undisclosed draft pick, for Brandon Marshall.

Sound crazy? Yes, it probably does. But Brian McIntyre at NorthwestFootball.net has put together a scenario involving the above players that could make a whole lot of sense for both teams.

To boil it down, the Broncos are in need of guards and a center. They're down to a 26-year-old third-stringer named Dustin Fry at center, who has never started an NFL game. Meanwhile, Chris Spencer's future in Seattle is definitely uncertain, after Max Unger outplayed him when filling in at center in the final few games of the 2009 season. Unger also was the only offensive lineman who played every snap on the Seahawks last year, showing durability that is a much-needed attribute of the team's maligned offensive line.

Durability issues aside, the Broncos could use Spencer's experience at center, which is a position that comes with a steep learning curve. They need depth at the position. Rob Sims has also been a subject of chatter in the free agency game, as he's been told by the coaching staff to stay away from offseason workouts for the time being. McIntyre:

(Mike Kils of the Denver Post) suggests that Marshall won't sign the tender until he's assured that he's being traded, and that the Broncos could take the second of Seattle's two first-round picks for Marshall, or could even take Seattle's second-round pick (now the 60th pick overall) and one of the Seahawks' two fourth-round picks for Marshall.

Sims is big, strong, and athletic, and could be a fit in Josh McDaniels' hybrid "Zone/Power" blocking scheme. With a 2010 draft class light on quality interior offensive linemen, Denver may view Sims as an appealing alternative to a fourth-round draft choice, and along with Seattle's second-round pick, may be enough to get a deal done for Marshall.

In a perfect world, this would open the gates for Pete Carroll to draft the left tackle of the future (there is no excuse not to, at this point) and put either Ray Willis or Sean Locklear at right tackle. Training camp should sort that battle out.

The Broncos may still try to see which other teams have any interest in Marshall, however. The draft still is a month away, and a lot can happen between now and then. Veteran guard Ben Hamilton may decide to re-sign with Denver, which would lessen the team's need for depth at the position. Another team could come along and be willing to part with their first-round pick for Marshall, unlike what the Seahawks appear to be willing to do at this point.

Even still, this is a situation both teams should probably consider, especially since Josh McDaniels has made it clear he doesn't want Brandon Marshall around for another season. Sims and Spencer could definitely thrive under McDaniels' blocking scheme, and if Marshall can catch passes from Kyle Orton, I don't think Charlie Whitehurst would be much of a stretch. (Nothing personal, Hasselbeck.)

Simms and the #60... Where do we sign?!

I would much rather it be Spencer and #60. I love Sims and think that Gibbs must too. I think the sky is the limit for Sims if Gibbs is allowed to refine his skill set. I would SH!T my pants in amazement and excitement if it was #60 and Spencer. Not a huge fan of Spencer already and he doesn't fit the ZBS the best. If it were between Sims and Spencer I would hope that Hamilton re-signs so we could retain Sims and still get Marshall in this case for cheap. I'm crossing my fingers.

Let's hope something like the scenarios happen, and get Marshall in a Seahawk uniform.

I want an attempt at Sims and Spencer for Marshal.
If not I think Sims, Spencer and fourth rounder should do it. Bottom line I would rather have that 2nd rounder in this draft than Sims or Spencer.
Just get some value
written by CougHawk, March 21, 2010
I don't thin either Sims or Spencer have a future with the Hawks so they should do everything to get some kind of value in return. Whether it is tied to Marshall or not. If they could pull off getting Marshall without giving up their 2nd round pick I would consider that a homerun.
Almost there

It almost makes sense but No. 60 and Sims for Marshall. I'm sorry but that wouldn't work. Now No. 60, Sims and a fourth-round pick would be a lot more fesiable for both sides.

Or even No. 60, Sims and Spencer for Marshall because neither player has a future in Seattle and Marshall does.

Id Take It

I would do that trade in a heartbeat..

I would rather go into the draft filling holes like LT, DE, RB, SS. Not WR.

I can't make up my mind about Sims, but it sure seems like he wiffed a lot the last few years, Same with Spence. They are both big road graders though...
But, a smaller person in the way will do better than a mountain that wiffs...

This would be a great deal for the Hawks as we desperately need a Marshall type on O and i have never been a huge Spencer fan......... However, Center is the 2nd most important position on the line (some would argue THE most important)
Who goes in if Unger gets hurt????? I suppose we might get away with Vallos at backup......Or not!

Another good point. A pick with a couple years of starting, let alone a center has still got value.
I would LOVE to have Marshall, but the center position is worth more than is being credited for, especially if Unger goes down. #60, Sims and Spencer is a bit too high. #60 and one or the other should do it, if not we could really use that #60.

Exactly MM....
How about Rob Sims, Deon Branch and a 4th rounder for Marshall. smilies/cool.gif

Spencer was tendered at the 1st round level, so shouldn't it be a straight across deal for Marshall? I know that would make too much sense, and we like to always make sure that our trade partners feel like they got the better deal, so we can also throw in Sims. In effect, it would be a 1st and a 4th for Marshall - who was signed to just a 1st round tender.

Just sayin.... We really should keep our 2nd pick if this is the case.

Perhaps Sims, Spencer, AND Branch would suffice. I would pull the trigger on that one any day. IF they dont want Sims, Holmgren does. Get a fourth for him, he's worth one, and trade it and the other two for Marshall.

Either way, it wont happen until right before the draft, as Denver will try to squeeze value out of Marshall. Even though if they dont trade him, he likely will hold out, and they will get not much for him if he misses camp. Also, he's only under contract for another year. Then he's free and they get NOTHING. Seattle holds the cards on this one--lets hope they stick to thier guns and dont fold like they did with Whitehurst. Do NOT give up the 60th pick. Make them take those players and a fourth...its the best those guys will get.

I'm guessing this hasn't happened yet because Denver is waiting for us to throw in our 6th pick too. I'm guessing the FO has offered 14, 60, Sims, Spencer and Branch.

I like giving Simms to CLE for a 4th rounder. Not totally sold on Marshall unless the price is right. I would do anything possible to keep our first rounders and our second rounder.

If there's any truth to the Jets sniffing around Marshall, things may accelerate. I hope we have the cooler heads in the matter, and that the cooler heads prevail. Only fools rush in, eh?

Josh McDaniels may be the dumbest coach in the NFL. So I wouldn't rule out a Kelly Jennings, Jamar Adams, A $50 Best Buy gift card, Steve Vallos and Deion Branch trade for Marshall.

Just kidding, but wouldn't that be nice?

The Jets have not met with Marshal, that has been a rumor for a while and nothing has come of it.
We are the only ones in the running for him at this time. So we could get him for Sims and Spencer. Sims supposedly does not fit our Blocking system and Spencer got beat out by Unger last year.
If someone else does join in we will likely need to use that second rounder.
why enter the bidding now?
written by Papahawk, March 22, 2010
If you were interested in Marshall, why would you open your mouth now? Let's pretend that the Jets, or the Falcons or whomever wanted him. If you know that the Hawks are interested, but don't want to overspend, it won't take much to trump them. So- right before the draft you enter. I have a feeling we'll get more insight come Draft time.

Josh McDaniels actually probably likes Deion Branch. That trade involving Vallos/Branch/Sims may actually work.

Like I said on previous posts I'm sure the Broncos really would be interested in acquiring Hawthorne. They're in dire need of help on their D, especially in the middle against the run. I've seen a bunch of mocks with Denver taking McClain. Now if we trade them Hawthorne that frees up a HUGE need for them come draft day.
get us some good players already
written by Mikehawksfan, March 22, 2010
Ok there is no cap right, and don't we have the richest owner in the NFL, so y the hell are they not spending the money to get us some damn good players so we can make another run at the super bowl. And quit signing everyone's dang third string players, WTF. Marshall is the only decent player so far we been trying to get, and yet they holding out on him, get it done already so we can say we at least got one decent player. Frustrating! GO HAWKS

Kinda off topic for this post but whatever, the closer the draft comes the more I hope we draft Eric Berry at 6. I'm not a big supporter of going BPA, and normally support drafting for need insted but drafting Berry fits both strategies. He may be the best safety prospect ever, no joke.

We could get a guy like Charles Brown at 14, which would be a steal since he is a very polished pass protecter and is a perfect fit for the ZBS. He is a better prospect than Trent Williams (more of an RT anyways) or anyother LT there at 6 except maybe Campbell. Its not like we are giving up a Walter Jones like player at 6 if we decide to pass up LT there and get our LT later in the draft.

written by S.TTBM, March 23, 2010
Omar--I too hope we pass on LT's at 6. McCoy/Suh/Berry/Dez Bryant would all look good in Seattle, and youre 100% right that Campbell and Brown should be there at 14. Maybe even Bulaga. Then we can get our WR/S/whatever in the second.
