Former Seahawks coach Jim Mora just made an appearance on ESPN 710 radio with Kevin Calabro.

Before you click the link, be forewarned:

If you hate Jim Mora, your opinion of him will probably not change. During the interview, he resorted to his usual tactics of throwing other people under the bus when criticized for something that was undeniably his fault (in this case, it was the PR people for "making his press conferences too long,") and deflected questions that would've put him in a negative light. Mora also flat-out said that Rob Sims told him personally that he will be traded, and isn't allowed to go work out at the VMAC until that trade happens.

No big surprise there.

But if you have a soft spot for Mora and think his firing was questionably handled, you'll want to listen to this interview. Mora claims Paul Allen never spoke to him directly about the team's decision, but did Allen really have to? The decision was made by the front office, and it seemed like there was a shared feeling of dissatisfaction with Mora's inability to connect with a lot of his players. I'm pretty sure if you Googled "players quitting on a coach," you'd get a YouTube video of the entire 2009 Tampa Bay game.

No matter what you think, I think it's high time the radio shows stopped paying attention to Jim Mora and let him collect his ridiculous paychecks for the foreseeable future. Mora, let's be serious for a second: You failed as a coach. You failed in almost every way possible, and the team was somehow left worse than it was when you became its would-be leader. Get over it. Stop talking to the media. We know you're unhappy. But really -- it's time to give up the ghost.

I hesitated to even put this post up, but it's sure to get everyone talking. The subtopic of Rob Sims is at least worth paying attention to, but it's overshadowed by Mora's blatant unprofessionalism.

Mora is a douche
written by Scooter, March 22, 2010
I had high hopes for him seeing as how he was a UW guy and had at least moderate success in Atlanta. But he is a jerk. He is a bad coach and a douchey person. I also think that he basically got Ruskell fired, and I was a big Ruskell supporter.

So I will not be listening to this interview, or any of his others. He can take his millions of dollars, thank his Dad for the use of his good name, and quietly go away. Please. Go away.

Ruskell brought in Mora as his handpicked head coach. That was one of many poor decisions on Ruskell's part that led to his firing. Mora was just Mora. Ruskell was simply held accoutable for his actions.
Not a surprise

IMO - the biggest reason for Mora to get fired is his lack of skill with the media. Same thing that got him fired in Atlanta. He is horrible in press conferences. He should take that $5m a year and hire a public speaking consultant.

I want a 4th rounder for Sims. I think you have to be quick for the zone blocking scheme. The only three guys I see fitting are Unger at center, Locklear at RT, and Spencer possibly at RG. I do think that Matthew threw Mora under the bus last season. I think he wanted to see Mora get fired and played really bad.
...
written by 12thmanDan, March 22, 2010
elroy are you kidding me to think that an NFL quarterback would deliberatly play bad to hopefully get a coach fired. Is that why he dove for the endzone against the 49ers. To play the game of football you have to be a naturally competative person and those types of people will never sandbag and take a loss. The team was just miss coached and therfore they lost games and Mora was the reason for that and he is now gone.

Hey Hawksmack
are you talking about the Sims possible trade.
If you are here are some of the options.

1 He plays some part in the aquisition of Marshal, likely along with Spencer.

2 A team signs an offer sheet and we get a 4th rounder (hopefully the Browns in this case and we get pick #102).

3 There are many teams interested and we may be able to sign and trade, potentially getting a 3rd rounder depending on how much interest there actually is in him.

I'm curious to see who fleeces us for Sims. I'm guessing we get a 2013 7th rounder.

Mora may be a touch bitter, but I'd be pissed too if I were cut loose after one year after being told I'm the coach next year. I understand The Hawks felt that Carroll was a big get and wanted him, but it was pretty classless to behead Mora without even letting him know it coming. It's like he found Pete Carroll in his bed screwing his wife.

If you want to end a relationship you tell the person and then move on... whether it be love or business. You don't go cheat on them and tell them afterwards.

Let's not exaggerate what happened. Mora was never told he would be the coach next year. In fact he was told the opposite. We know this because before the last four games Mora said more than once that everyone, including him, was playing for their jobs. At the end of the season he said, "I am going to keep working until I'm told to leave." He had no expectation he would keep the job, except that final press conference, where maybe that gave him some hope, figuring they wouldn't have had him do it if he was getting fired. So that was a screw up, or miscommunication. But he knew his job wasn't safe all along.
Mora
written by LouieLouie, March 22, 2010
Mora came in to a toxic situation with the Hawks. He may or may not be a good coach, but he stepped up to the plate with two strikes against him.

I can't blame him for being pissed off because being the head coach for the Seattle Seahawks was his "dream job." Under different circumstances he might have excelled. But to be fair, he never had much of a chance. That's just the way the cards fall sometimes.

As for all of those millions that he's still going to make: I wish that I could feel some of his pain.

Mora's interview was a repeat of everything that is wrong with him. While I appreciate his love of the game, he is one of the worst leaders of anyone in any profession. He nees to Immodium AD for his mouth as he can't quit blaming everyone else for his problems. He threw his players under the bus all year and then seemed surprised when that he wasn't respected. I also thought he was totally unprofessional in this interview, not his place to comment on the Seahawks moves just because someone asked. Dude, Go see a PR expert and take some detailed notes about shuttin up. No leadership ability at all when adversity strikes. Glad he is gone!

I don't feel bad for Mora. He threw everyone under the bus during the season and still continues to do so. Another reason I don't feel bad for him... he is making $12-13 million over the next couple years for not doing a single thing. As he said in his interview... he is a big boy and he will get over it. I would be happy making that money after getting fired. In fact, sign me up. Why does everyone feel sorry for him?

I dont even know why I am wasting my time talking about this dude. So, its okay to cut TJ after letting him participate in training camp, but then cut him after everybody has signed their players leaving him with little or no choices? Hell yeah it was right, because someone running the show saw no value in TJ and had the Hawks best interest in mind, just like someone with power saw little hope in Mora. Nobody deserves anything unless you earned it, and even then the name of the game is to win, and Mora didnt do that. If he doesnt like it, then get out of the business cuz you cant handle it, ro shut the f up and buy your own team and run it the way you want. Not sure what he is trying to accomplish with his remarks, but its not hindering coaches, GM's, or players from coming to Seattle based on what happen to him. People should be thankful the Hawks have an owner that will not tolerate losing.

One more comment and I promise to stop. What idiot that claims to be a coach of the NFL would admit he doesnt know who Charlie Whitehurst is? Obviously Mora does and would leave a rock unturned when looking for talent in the NFL because with a banged up QB in Matt last year and Seneca as your backup, you just proved why you and and Timmy got fired. There SHOULD have been some momment last year when you and Timmy got together and went up and down ALL the QB's in the league to see who you could get in case Matt didnt come back from his broken ribs. Apparently that didnt happen. You were too busy brinking the Edge to town rather than thinking outside the box.

And you have friends from SD who are "feeling pretty darn good about the deal." Ya think? Why in the hell would they do the deal if they didnt feel darn good about it? Just because they like the Hawks? Well guess what Mora? My neighbor Bob who is a Hawks fan feels pretty darn good about the Whitehurst trade. What do you think of that? Go climb a mountain and eat rocks.

I tried so hard to like you, but the momment I heard you say on KJR that you have never failed in you life that you were nothing but a baby who needs to grow up. Seriously, you never failed in your life? Not winning the SB every year should be failure for an NFL coach, and some how a 5-11 season is not failure.

Not necessarily sticking up for what he's saying, but at the same time I think any of us would be pretty bitter if we got fired from our dream job. If I got fired from a job and felt ripped off by my former employer...I would want EVERYONE to know about it, too.

The reality is he was the assitant HC/DB coach for 2 abysmal years, then became the HC. So really he had three years with the organization. During his time with the DB's they regressed, then when he became HC the whole team regressed. This couldn't have POSSIBLY have anything to do with Moras abilities. Thank you Paul Allen (Lewieke) for eating the $12M and parting ways with this beady eyed knuckle head. Seahawks fans the world over should be thanking you. On a side note, I think its great that Mora is spouting off. It will bring the new team together as they distance themselves from the "dirt bag". The new era has begun, thank goodness.
Look in the mirror, Jimbo
written by Papahawk, March 23, 2010
You'd think by now that Mora would know he looks like poop by throwing anybody else under the bus. Greg Knapp was Mora's undoing. The offense never clicked, and while it did have something to do with the offensive line injuries it was doomed because Knapp had an offense without players who were built to run that offense. Any good coach should know that you must have talent to match the system and make adjustments. Adjustments were not made. Players didn't buy in. Mora had to go. I laugh how this guy is piling on himself. Did anyone else see Silvi's show last night? Paul severed any relationship with his "P.S." comments.
Hey @seahawksfan

You are certainly correct about the "knuckle head" thing. When he called out Mare early in the year, it had the desired effect. Mare was a pro bowl caliber kicker the rest of the year.

At the time, I thought it was refreshing to hear someone bitch slap some of these temperamental millionairs around in public. It seemed like he might embarrass some of these guys into earning the money they're making. Then came the Tampa Bay game. He had overdone his shtic to the point of buffoonery.

I was rooting for you Jimmy Boy, but it was time to clean house. While he did walk in to a bad situation in a dysfunctional organization, he didn't help. In fact, he became part of the problem.

I see reason on both sides of this equation...I remember a game two seasons ago when we were singing mora's praises as the secondary played one hell of a season under him and everyone was playing great, we allowed the fewest passing TDs in the nfl even allowing four in the last game of the season. I know it seemed the season went terrible but lets be honest. everyone in the whole situation is being paid hundreds of thousands and some millions of dollars to perform on the football field and they didnt. "players giving up on coach" is the worst reason i have ever heard to blame a coach for poor performance. I dont believe there is any rhyme reason or time ever that any player of personnel at that level could make any decision of any kind to not perform at their highest level possible. So....lets not blame mora totally, there was a collapse of the entire organization the last couple seasons and mora is the scapegoat. I think its all BS. There is no time ever when PROFESSIONAL sports programs can be blamed on ONE person.
"But if you have a soft spot for Mora and think his firing was questionably handled"
written by Steve S., March 23, 2010
I do not have a soft spot for Mora and am happy with the new direction, but the circumstances of his firing were beyond "questionable". The team sent him out there as the face of the franchise on a Thursday and then cut his balls off on a Friday. Whatever his other deficiencies, he has every right to be pissed off about that. I also don't blame him for going on KJR if KJR invites him. If KJR's listeners want to hear him and this blog wants to keep complaining about him then he has every right to give his side of the story in any way he sees fit.

There were two problems with Mora. 1) He chose an offensive scheme that did not work with the guys they had. Even if the line had played much better, it still would have underachieved compared to Holmgren's offense. May if they had had a superstar RB it might have worked, but not with the guys they had. 2) His style did not motivate anybody. I don't know if it was throwing people under the bus or just his general demeanor but while players seemed to like him, they gave up on him.

I don't blame him for being bitter. With the way the timing happened, the things that were said to him, he has a right to be angry about it. Given time, he probably would have fixed the offense at some point. If Carroll had not been willing to leave USC, he'd still be the coach. But another season like last year and he probably would have been let go regardless of who was available, Carroll or no.

However, this offseason it seems to be quiter than last. With that said, here's the list of compensatory draft picks for those who care.

Ruskells worst mistake was hiring Mora. And Mora's worst mistake was hiring Knapp. Both made innumerable other mistakes that led to thier firing. Both richly deserved to be fired.

And Mora's comments are further proof that he has no business as a Head Coach of any team, even High School. He just doesnt get it. He is the WORST example I have seen. He is a perfect example of how NOT to lead. To lead: You do not throw players under the bus, you DO fall on the sword and take on blame on yourself that may not be fair, You are supposed to know when to shut your mouth!

Still, I personally feel Mora's firing wasnt handled well. It was classless to dump him one day after promoting him as the face of our franchise. It would have been better to fire him immediately upon the seasons end. So he has a right to some bitterness. But all the millions he is being paid despite being the WORST coach since Tom Flores in 1992 should console him. And he isnt helping himeself with his bitter whining, and his continual lack of accountability. No one will want to hire him in any capacity if he keeps this up!

He's ruining any chance of ever resuscitating his career.

And to think Holmgren tried to teach him how to act in public, and how to manage a team. He sure didnt learn well...
Anyways..

Then the Tampa Debacle changed everything. I'm glad Mora is gone, and I'm glad that he's lipping off on the radio to prove that he wasn't all that much of an asset to the team.
