Former Seahawks coach Jim Mora just made an appearance on ESPN 710 radio with Kevin Calabro.
Before you click the link, be forewarned:
If you hate Jim Mora, your opinion of him will probably not change. During the interview, he resorted to his usual tactics of throwing other people under the bus when criticized for something that was undeniably his fault (in this case, it was the PR people for "making his press conferences too long,") and deflected questions that would've put him in a negative light. Mora also flat-out said that Rob Sims told him personally that he will be traded, and isn't allowed to go work out at the VMAC until that trade happens.
No big surprise there.
But if you have a soft spot for Mora and think his firing was questionably handled, you'll want to listen to this interview. Mora claims Paul Allen never spoke to him directly about the team's decision, but did Allen really have to? The decision was made by the front office, and it seemed like there was a shared feeling of dissatisfaction with Mora's inability to connect with a lot of his players. I'm pretty sure if you Googled "players quitting on a coach," you'd get a YouTube video of the entire 2009 Tampa Bay game.
No matter what you think, I think it's high time the radio shows stopped paying attention to Jim Mora and let him collect his ridiculous paychecks for the foreseeable future. Mora, let's be serious for a second: You failed as a coach. You failed in almost every way possible, and the team was somehow left worse than it was when you became its would-be leader. Get over it. Stop talking to the media. We know you're unhappy. But really -- it's time to give up the ghost.
I hesitated to even put this post up, but it's sure to get everyone talking. The subtopic of Rob Sims is at least worth paying attention to, but it's overshadowed by Mora's blatant unprofessionalism.

I also think that he basically got Ruskell fired
Ruskell brought in Mora as his handpicked head coach. That was one of many poor decisions on Ruskell's part that led to his firing. Mora was just Mora. Ruskell was simply held accoutable for his actions.

I am glad that Mora is gone. His heart is obviously broke about being dumped. He thought he had his dream job, but was not competent enough to keep it. And now he is bitter.

i can't believe he actually blamed the PR guy for his blunders. Was the PR dude supposed to cut him off every time he was throwing a player under the bus?
He is so bitter, it's amusing. Are we supposed to believe that he can't remember the new GM's name, REALLY?

are you talking about the Sims possible trade.
If you are here are some of the options.
1 He plays some part in the aquisition of Marshal, likely along with Spencer.
2 A team signs an offer sheet and we get a 4th rounder (hopefully the Browns in this case and we get pick #102).
3 There are many teams interested and we may be able to sign and trade, potentially getting a 3rd rounder depending on how much interest there actually is in him.

Mora may be a touch bitter, but I'd be pissed too if I were cut loose after one year after being told I'm the coach next year. I understand The Hawks felt that Carroll was a big get and wanted him, but it was pretty classless to behead Mora without even letting him know it coming. It's like he found Pete Carroll in his bed screwing his wife.
If you want to end a relationship you tell the person and then move on... whether it be love or business. You don't go cheat on them and tell them afterwards.

Let's not exaggerate what happened. Mora was never told he would be the coach next year. In fact he was told the opposite. We know this because before the last four games Mora said more than once that everyone, including him, was playing for their jobs. At the end of the season he said, "I am going to keep working until I'm told to leave." He had no expectation he would keep the job, except that final press conference, where maybe that gave him some hope, figuring they wouldn't have had him do it if he was getting fired. So that was a screw up, or miscommunication. But he knew his job wasn't safe all along.

I can't blame him for being pissed off because being the head coach for the Seattle Seahawks was his "dream job." Under different circumstances he might have excelled. But to be fair, he never had much of a chance. That's just the way the cards fall sometimes.
As for all of those millions that he's still going to make: I wish that I could feel some of his pain.

And you have friends from SD who are "feeling pretty darn good about the deal." Ya think? Why in the hell would they do the deal if they didnt feel darn good about it? Just because they like the Hawks? Well guess what Mora? My neighbor Bob who is a Hawks fan feels pretty darn good about the Whitehurst trade. What do you think of that? Go climb a mountain and eat rocks.
I tried so hard to like you, but the momment I heard you say on KJR that you have never failed in you life that you were nothing but a baby who needs to grow up. Seriously, you never failed in your life? Not winning the SB every year should be failure for an NFL coach, and some how a 5-11 season is not failure.

not his pr guy. A super classless guy with 12 million for getting tossed? If he started singing a different tune, maybe he'd get another gig. This was like a repeat of our press conferences after another loss.

At the time, I thought it was refreshing to hear someone bitch slap some of these temperamental millionairs around in public. It seemed like he might embarrass some of these guys into earning the money they're making. Then came the Tampa Bay game. He had overdone his shtic to the point of buffoonery.
I was rooting for you Jimmy Boy, but it was time to clean house. While he did walk in to a bad situation in a dysfunctional organization, he didn't help. In fact, he became part of the problem.

I don't blame him for being bitter. With the way the timing happened, the things that were said to him, he has a right to be angry about it. Given time, he probably would have fixed the offense at some point. If Carroll had not been willing to leave USC, he'd still be the coach. But another season like last year and he probably would have been let go regardless of who was available, Carroll or no.

And Mora's comments are further proof that he has no business as a Head Coach of any team, even High School. He just doesnt get it. He is the WORST example I have seen. He is a perfect example of how NOT to lead. To lead: You do not throw players under the bus, you DO fall on the sword and take on blame on yourself that may not be fair, You are supposed to know when to shut your mouth!
Still, I personally feel Mora's firing wasnt handled well. It was classless to dump him one day after promoting him as the face of our franchise. It would have been better to fire him immediately upon the seasons end. So he has a right to some bitterness. But all the millions he is being paid despite being the WORST coach since Tom Flores in 1992 should console him. And he isnt helping himeself with his bitter whining, and his continual lack of accountability. No one will want to hire him in any capacity if he keeps this up!
He's ruining any chance of ever resuscitating his career.
And to think Holmgren tried to teach him how to act in public, and how to manage a team. He sure didnt learn well...

Amen!
I supported Mora longer than most, but his behavior since being fired has convinced me I was wrong. To quote Worf -- STNG is on TV as I type this -- he has no honor.

So I will not be listening to this interview, or any of his others. He can take his millions of dollars, thank his Dad for the use of his good name, and quietly go away. Please. Go away.
