Veteran offensive guard Chester Pitts is in town tonight and tomorrow to meet with the Seahawks brass and potentially negotiate a deal. This is the third visit he has made, coming here directly from San Francisco.
Pitts is 30 years old (middle aged by OL standards) and is coming off [dun dun dunnn] microfracture surgery to his knee. This after 7 years of not missing a game, but still, it remains to be seen whether a lineman can return from microfracture surgery. If Pitts could play to his past self's performance, he would be a great addition for the Seahawks -- he played under Alex Gibbs for years in Houston -- but his that is a big if. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Hawks sign him to an incentive laden contract, but if we sell the farm to "win" him, we might be buying a dead rooster.

Rookie LT, Pitts, Unger, Hamilton, Locklear/Willis
And if we could get a 3rd or fourth for Sims and a 2nd for Spencer, we could draft two interior linemen with those picks to take over in a couple years for Pitts and Hamilton.
Just think if we had depth on the Line that is equal to or greater than our 2009 O line without actually loosing any picks that we have now.

Change is ever lasting. Those that chase fantasy's of the permenant solution, will forever be chasing. Luck and solid talent evaluation may yield a longer lasting solution, however, that solution is only temporary. We must always have replacements on the depth chart for every starter and plan for succession. If opportunity presents itself, or you make the opportunity through deliberate decisions, you upgrade your starters too.
This is what signing these players means. Stop-gap? I don't know what that really means.

IT will take at least two drafts to place Seattle where we should be right now--solid, a complete team. If we sign a couple Free Agent lineman who can upgrade our line for the next year or two, that buys us time to flesh out the line, as well as the rest of the personnell groupings that have holes to fill.
Without signing a FA or two on the line, it could take most of our draft this year, or a good portion of two drafts to solidify, leaving us with gaping holes elsewhere.
Signing Pitts would allow us to go BPA more often, which will only benefit us long-term. It will also help us win more games immediately.
For example, if we sign one or two FA who can start on the line, that would allow us to draft only a LT and perhaps a G this year, and a RT and another G next year, as opposed to having to draft a LT and two G's this year and a RT and depth lineman next year. Thats huge. It allows us to draft the BPA at other positions of need--like FS, CB, WR, DT, RB and DE. Especially when this draft is loaded with excellent talent at S, CB, WR, and RB. I would hate to lose a shot at potential steals at these positions simply to choose lesser talent lineman out of need.
I like the 'stop-gap" idea for this year, spreading the line draft picks over 2-3 years.

He will be an upgrade for sure if he can play though due to his past in the ZBS, and especially Gibbs' system.

Rams GM Billy Devaney shot down reports that his club might acquire Donovan McNabb Wednesday, calling the rumors "absolutely false."
"Nothing to it," another high-ranking Rams official informed Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "It’s utterly ridiculous," Devaney added. "I haven’t talked to Philadelphia about any of their players." "They may have a trade offer, but not from us," yet a third Rams source said. "Why would we trade for McNabb and then go watch (Sam) Bradford throw on Monday?" Mar. 24 - 6:18 pm et
