Jay Glazer broke it:

Eagles have just traded for seattle DE darryl tapp, sending lb/de chris clemons and a late-rd pick. Tapp had 7 sacks in 2007

Chris Clemons... who is he? Check out his profile right here. He's a 7 year veteran out of Georgia who has, um, not really done a whole lot in the NFL. No idea what the "late round pick" is, but if its worse than a 5th, I just don't get this deal. Realistically, I don't get this deal anyway. Tapp has been very effective despite our awful defensive schemes the last two years.

Definitely one of my favorite players, but alas. This is the painful reality of a rebuilding process.

[Update:] I was a little unfair to Clemons. In his one year in Oakland, where he played a rush linebacker (sort of the way we envisioned Darryl Tapp fitting the "elephant backer" role), he had 8 sacks and was fairly impactful. Still, hard to see a guy like Tapp go.

[Update 2:] The Seahawks will receive Chris Clemons and a 2010 4th Round Pick for Darryl Tapp. That's a pretty good deal if Clemons can contribute... still, I am wary of getting rid of arguably our most consistent defensive end regardless of the return.

[Update 3:] Tapp told Danny O'Neil that he did not know for certain that he would be traded when he signed the tender, but that sounds to me like he probably knew.
