Hawks Receiver #81 Nate Burleson just tweeted this:
"I have been chattin wit the upper management but no $erious talks yet wit the Seahawks. I'm clickin my heels..."no place like home". ;-)" He then wrote a few minutes later, "hope I'm a hawk but me and Morpheous are going to see the Oricle on tuesday to make sure. Gettin a new deal is like fighting a Agent!"
With less than a month to go until free agency starts, NFL here is saying March 5th, I for one am hoping that we resign him. He has been a valuable target for Hasselbeck and his career is only going to get better. As his NFL page states he is a valuable commodity.

Resign Nate, but he must be upgraded soon, and I mean upgraded in the draft. No more FA WRs who take time to bond with our QBs, and we have to take a high pick on a WR in this or next years draft.

Please resign Nate. Though the changes have been necessary and will hopefully make the team better, I still wish the "old" team could have been successful. It would suck to see another part of yesterdays team leave. Nate's just an all-around good guy and good player. Sign him now!

Resign Nate and trade Housh back to Cinci. I like Housh but they're both #2 Recievers., it would be great if we could trade a 2nd round pick and housh for brandon marshall

Jordan shipley will be a stud in this league. He just smoked Dez Bryant,Marty Gilyard and Damian Williams in the skills competion.I know they dont take those things seriously but that kid looked good.I would want him on my team.He might just win the ROY if he gets on the Pats.Projected to be drafted in the second round.Jevan Snead has got a canyon of an arm.He is another project but I would roll the dice on him to let him learn behind Matt and company for three years or so.

I would look to see some larger sized receivers. Glad that Schneider feels the same way.
I agree that Nate is good, and it would be nice to keep him, but we can do better.

Jevan Snead would be a steal in the later rounds (3-5). He was very productive when he actually had a supporting cast around him. Once Michael Oher and Mike Wallace left, he lost the two people most important to his success. If we draft Snead and upgrade our OL he could be the QB of the future we need going foward.

Omar--Dude, werent you hammering me pretty recently for advocating overhaul of our WR corps by drafting a couple WR's in the first three rounds over the next two years?! Glad to hear someone else is iffy on our WR corps capability.
On Burleson: Just like his partner in overpaid underacheiveness Deion Branch, Nate is only worth keeping around for the right price. Like Branch, Nate hasnt earned the money he's allready been paid, so what in hell makes them feel like they are owed a raise?!
Seriously, at this point in thier career's, it makes no sense to pay them on potential. Looking at Nate's past performance here in Seattle, and taking into account that this will be his eighth or ninth NFL season, it is quite obvious that he will never reach his supposed potential. With Nate, you get what you get: a quick but not fast WR with decent height, who lacks the speed, consistency, and physical play to be a number 1 or 2 WR.
Nate is a decent number 3 WR for a team that uses 3 WR's onfield a lot. He has all the talent to be a fine number 2, yet his deficiencies make him a liability there. And what are his deficiencies?
First and foremost, Nate has always been inconsistent. Also, he doesnt run great routes, he drops passes consistently--especially on third down--and he lacks the strength and physicality to come down with passes in traffic. For example, he sucks at the slant route, which USED to be a key staple of our team, back when we were successful.
As long as our coaches feel they can find someone of equal or greater talent that is younger than Nate, I couldnt care less if he's re-signed.
I am quite aware of Nate's charity work and his work ethic, which I admire. He is a nice guy, and its nice that he's a local product. But he simply hasnt delivered enough in tight spots for me to allow sentimentality to override cold hard facts. And those facts are that Nate is a liability as a number 2.
To say you'd rather keep Nate and ditch Housh is one of the least logical things I have heard this season. I counted 15 drops by Burleson in the first 6 games--though the officail stats dont ding him as harshly--and only a small handful by Housh. Housh put up stats this year that Nate is only now able to achieve, despite the fact that Housh has only had one offseason to work with Matt and Nate has been here for years and years. I think Housh will get better with Matt, while Nate has allready peaked.
Not only that, but Housh can really go up for the ball in traffic and uses his size very well. While Housh is also overpaid, Im damn glad we have him on our team.
What I dont want to see is Seattle allow Nate to go, then do nothing to replace him except a sixth round pick chosen for his blocking (like Ruskell did TWICE).

Hawkboy--Man, have you watched LT play the last couple seasons?! The guy is utterly washed up. He's lost his speed and agility. The guy should retire. He is only marginally better than Edgerrin James.
I will puke if we show any interest in him. And I have always admired LT--he's a good guy and a hard worker, but he's flat done.

Yeah, it comes down to how much he is willing to sign for. If it's a little, go ahead and sign him. If it's up at the level of #1 or high #2 receivers, see ya! He does have more than he's shown. You could really see that in flashes this season. In some games he was the go to guy.
Also some of the answer is on coach's tape and in the locker room, but unknown to fans. How often is he getting open? How often does he run the right routes and run them well? How is his blocking? What is the prognosis for his future health? How is he in the locker room? The answer to these questions either push him up into #2 reciever money, or he deserves something less.

STTBM,
I think I disagreed with you on taking Dez Bryant or Golden Tate in the first this year. What I really want is for us to put the WR situation on hold for next years class that promises to be much better. With AJ Green, Julio Jones and Mike Floyd all probably declaring we can finally (hopefully) grab the big (6ft 4) true number one reciever we have been lacking.

Resign him, say bye-bye to Branch and give Butler a chance to play. Other than that, let's trust the new admin/coaches to do the right thing and back them 100% (for awhile) without second guessing them all the time like fans did with Mora. A new system takes time to implement but it is very possible we make the playoffs in 2010! Walt retiring gives us plenty of cash to sign 2 very good FAs in addition to our 3 or more (trading down?) high picks.
Only worth it for the right price

...... considering he never plays a freaking full season. Also, he is not a number 1 WR. "Love ya Nate, but you have been over paid and under worked for 3 year now. you want seattle? well we want you too, but give a good discount".

Houshmanzadeah is way better than branch or burelson but what we need the most is o line, then we need some db's who can defend without pass interference penalties, then we need a good running game. I say with the 6 th pick get okung then with the 14th pick if we can't trade for Marshall get a rb or dez Bryant there are alot of players available right now and with the richest owner why can't we be like the Yankees buy your team stop messin around let's go hawks
