Dis-Official: Walker Says No Offer

Well, as is sometimes the case, it seems like people may have jumped the gun a bit on the ol' DeWayne Walker as defensive coordinator story:

"Those reports are false," Walker said. "I have not been offered the job. Therefore, I have not accepted the job. Everything everybody is writing is false." ... "Nothing's been offered, nothing's been talked about... I haven't even talked to Pete. And if I did, (NMSU Athletics Director McKinley) Boston would be the first to know.

So, that's a pretty outright denial, but it could also be to mask the fact that it leaked before he had a chance to talk to his boss. Could Carroll have other plans? We have already been fed one wrong coach (Ruel as O-Line), so it's possible that there's someone else coming. Will it be a bombshell like Alex Gibbs? I doubt it, but if you'd asked me yesterday, I would've called Ruel or Solari a great fit.

Like I said in a post last night, Walker has okay credentials and some NFL experience as a Secondary coach in a few places but with so much of a college background and nothing that screams big success, I hope Pete brings in somebody else. One would imagine he'll be in charge of the D anyway but still need a butt-kicker to carry out his coaching goals. My wife and her friend are monopolizing the TV and subsequent DVR so I can't watch the Carroll presser that I taped on NFL Network and ESPN. Addicts is a nice getaway from them yapping in the living room, so to speak!

It was a pretty good press conference, one of the funniest parts right in the beginning is Pete almost puts on the helmet. It's pretty entertaining and very revealing to who he is. I was impressed.

Well we thought it was official. NBC sports' Pro Football Talk is usually pretty good. They said it he confirmed it, so I wonder how that article got out if they had not even talked to him. He could still be the choice, but I get the feeling they are gonna get somebody else.

I thought he would have been our weakest Asst. coach up until now, so I'm happy that Pete is still considering other defensive coordinators. Hoping for a game changer.

Since Lane Kiffin is heading off to LA, we should bring in Monte Kiffin in to run the defense, unless of course he follows his son.

I hope we keep Bradley. Give him a chance and I'm sure he can become a very talented DC, especially under Carroll's influance.
