While the talk of the town in Seattle is Brandon Marshall joining the NFC West, another prolific receiver has just left it.
Done deal: Arizona trades WR Anquan Boldin and a 2010 fifth-round pick to Baltimore for Ravens' 2010 third- and fourth-round picks.
Arizona will certainly be a different team next year with the loss of both Kurt Warner and now Anquan Boldin, and the Ravens just got better on offense.
Never a dull moment in free agency, even in a recently dull division.
UPDATE: The Cardinals have also lost LB Karlos Dansby to the Dolphins, which is a definite blow to their defense. That'd be the equivalent of the Seahawks losing Lofa Tatupu. The NFC West is getting wide open again.

For me personally it feels like I could careless about this move because of all the brandon marshall excitment. Even though this trade will impact us very much. Honestly the NFC West is up for grabs, who knows, the rams might be a contender. They also made moves by agreeing terms with quarterback AJ Feely.

_______________
I understand (and to an extent share) your reluctance.
But remember, this is a 4 team division...the Rams stink, now the Cardinals have taken some serious hits on their defense and they have a questionable QB.
So you're correct, it's the 49'ers that appear to be the team that is going to be the biggest challenge in the division. I'm not sold on Smith's rebirth and the Hawks had a silly amount of injuries at O line. I wouldn't write in the Hawks to dominate the division in ink, but when the division winner has taken so many hits it has to make the road smoother than it was before.

S Eric Berry: Way to high to take a saftey at 6th.
DT Ndamukong Suh: 100000% Positive that he will be gone at 6th
QB Sam Bradford: He will also be gone
OT Russel Okung: Is a player I would like to get at 6th along with clausen but Im sure Okung will be a goner.
DT Gerald McCoy, Derrick Morgan: I personally dont like them skill wise and 6th is a tiny bit to much for him.
CB Joe Haden: I think we have much bigger needs then cornerback at 6th.
Bryan Bulaga, CJ Spiller, Dez Bryant: Not high Dez Bryant and Bulaga and spiller is just to high.
My point is that Pete and company needs to pull the trigger on Clausen or trade the 6th pick and grabe a quarterback later in the draft

The NFC West is getting wide open again.
The question is, is it just that we're re-arranging the pieces in what is still going to be the worst division in football or is the NFC West getting better as a whole?

Now they can resign Sean Morey, who is ready to be the third WR. They also have that smaller guy they drafted in the second round a couple years ago (I forget his name) who has talent and might be ready to become a player. Plus, they have Jehreme Urban, who aside from his chronic foot injury, is a fine fourth WR and always tears the Hawks a new one. Its hilarious watching Josh Wilson and Jennings try to cover him--they just throw the ball high and he runs them over!
Losing Dansby is a much much bigger deal, and Dockett wants Haynesworth/Peppers money. Even if they keep him, its gonna hurt them. You know the Bidwells are freaking out over having to pay that!
Plus, now they have an EXTRA third and fourth round pick in a draft that is LOADED with talent in the areas the Cards also are looking at restocking with developmental players: RB and WR and Safety.
I think Baltimore got what they needed, and Arizona made out like a bandit. Plus, AZ got Boldin out of the NFC. I bet they were careful not to let a third-party trade happen with Boldin coming here.
Ive always thought Boldin would be a perfect WCO WR playing under Holmgren--like Darrell Jackson but without the drops! Now Baltimore looks pretty imposing, and they can afford to let Mason go to NE.

1. There is no replacement to a Hall of Fame quarterback. At least two games worse there alone.
2. Carlos Dansby was there best linebacker, and the others are either two old, or just not good at all. They are talking about bringing in Larry Foote as a stop gap.
3. Yes the cards have other good recievers, but Bolden was their bruiser. They reciever capable of taking a punishment to get a 3rd and 8. They will miss him just for that reason.
4. Rolle I think will probably be the one that they won't miss too much. The cardinals do have depth in the secondary. However, he still was their third best secondary player.
It isn't like us losing two linebackers from our deepest position.
They lost:
1. Hall of Fame Quarterback
2. Pro Bowl Reciever
3. 2 or their 5 Best Defensive Players
It would be like us losing right now:
1. Matt Hasselback
2. The Housh
3. Tatupu
4. Trufant
These are the caliber players they lost. We would be screaming bloody murder if this happened to us. They don't even have that good of draft picks.

-Boldin was always injured and they may have been feeling like they were OVER paying him as he was never 100% and never really played to his full potential.
-Rolle to me is a wash. He's good, but I think they are in love with Rashad Johnson. I was very high on him last year and think he will be a good FS in the NFL. They just got younger and cheaper at S.
-Dockett hasn't gone anywhere yet so we can't speculate on that.
-Warner hurts, but I'm still scared of what Leinart may bring to the table. He was thrown in as a rookie and didn't live up to the hype as most rookies thrown in there do. He's now had good time to mature, develop and ease into the pace of the NFL. This reminds me alot of the Favre/Rodgers situation so until he proves otherwise I'm not going to speculate.
-Dansby is really the only HUGE hit to me so far. He's one of the NFL's best and it's a hole that isn't easy to fill. However, I don't know their backups all that well and I won't speculate because if we lost Tatupu I wouldn't be all that disappointed (other than my respect for the guy) because I know how good Hawthorne is and in my opinion he out played Lofa this year.
Yes, I like to argue, but I wasn't really arguing with you before buddy. I was just saying that we shouldn't get too excited and say that they are going to battle St. Louis for worst in the NFC West because we don't really know what they have to reload with and now they have a ton of draft picks to go after a couple guys they may be targeting. If you ask me it looks like they just got a lot younger and if they fill holes nicely they could be a force for several years to come.

Until Leinhart proves otherwise, he is an average quarterback at best, and a step back for the Cardinals, and anybody who is selling something different has ocean front property in Arizona. He may pan out. However, to just assume he will pan out is ludicrous.
I guess my question to you would be we had an argument where I said that we were in rebuild mode, and suggested getting value for Trufant and other veterans while they have value, and you disagreed, saying that you keep a nice mix of your best veteran players, and bring in young players to take over the aging spots i.e. (keeping Dansby, but getting young guys to replace Okeafer, Haggans, Hayes). This was your man arguing point in that discuss about the hawks. However you are contradicting your argument now by saying Arizona can trade or let go their talented veterans for value picks and yet still be a contender this year?.....
written by cts, March 06, 2010
I stand by my opinion on having a good mix of young and old players. They didn't let Warner go, he retired so that isn't on the organization. Dockett is still a Cardinal right now and the only move that makes me scratch my head is Dansby.
As for the Tru arguement, we don't have even adequate depth at CB and that is where my reluctancy and counterpoints came from. It's a totally different scenario. Arizona has good LB's and Highsmith is a good player. It's different than saying we are okay with Lucas or Jennings being the starter as Highsmith is neither an aging vet slowing down or a tiny player who is a bust and can't match up with the recievers of the NFC West.
I don't think I'm contradicting myself, I just think you misinturpreted what I was trying to say and the Tru thing was a completely different scenario. Let's not forget that Arizona made it to the SB two seasons ago and the 2nd round of the playoffs this past season. They aren't exactly in rebuild mode. No, they aren't a great team, but they aren't in our position either.

The seahawks have to make additions, like a Marshall if the price is right, but only if we retain our first two picks. If we were to say get Brandon Marshall, a Left tackle, and one more defensive weapon. I really think we could be right in the hunt this year. Something I wouldn't have said a week ago!
written by cts, March 06, 2010
I do believe we could make a push if we add a few FA this year and retain our top 3 picks. Bringing in 2-3 guys like Marshall, Bodden, Kampman, Hamilton, etc. would allow us to go after some young talent that would make us contenders in the NFC West.
IF we could get Marshall, Kampman and either Bodden or Hamilton I feel we could make a push. Maybe Berry/Haden/LT/Spiller/QB at 6 and 14 then fill a hole of DL/OL/RB/S/CB (based on FA and round 1) at 40 we would be in good position to add fillers/BPA with the rest of the draft.

I mean really, what kind of motivation is there in using your best rush moves to get off the field on a 3rd down situation, when you know your going to be right back on the field in three minutes. Plus, the more often your having to rush, the more opportunities the opposing teams O-line has to figure out your moves.

So thus far, the only loss that hurts them is Karlos Dansby.
And thier greatest strength as a team is Ken Whisenhunt. The guys is a great young coach. They have in all liklihood, the ability to contend as long as he is thier coach and he keeps innovating. They are gonna be tough to beat next year, and I for one think they have to be the favorites to win the NFC West. Even though I think I just threw up in my mouth a little as I typed that, its true.
