Well before his acceptance of the head coaching job with the Seattle Seahawks, 60 Minutes spoke with now-former USC head coach Pete Carroll. In the following 12-minute feature, they painted a picture of not only who Pete Carroll is as a coach, but who he is as a human being. As noted in an earlier comment, the resulting production is a must-watch for all Seahawk fans:

A Different Kind of Coach

It may be a little early to be getting excited, but this video has helped me start drinking the Kool-Aid. And don't get me wrong, as Chris has mentioned before on several occasions -- there is still reason for skepticism, and probably will be until we see the kind of coaching staff and team Carroll's crew is able to establish. Hell, the team is still searching for a new GM, after all. The question marks outweigh the facts, and it'll be that way for some time.

But the more I read about Pete Carroll, the more it appears the true embodiment of the term "winner" is now the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

Everyone said Carroll was a HUGE mistake for USC complaining and ranting about his inability to do anything. Nine years later USC is a juggernaut.
Being an Alum and Angeleno I am bummed about his departure... however growing up in the PacNW and being a diehard 12th man for as long as I can remember I'm overjoyed.
Rest assured this is a new dynasty beginning and the NFL will finally take notice.

Well said. I also am starting to sip on the Kool Aid, anticipating the first gulp which will probably be after the press conference. I am all for change after the Mora debacle. It is being reported that Jim Mora received a text message from Tim Ruskell after the conference that Mora spoke on behalf of Mike Holmgren. Ruskell texted Jim and it said "Real classy...Now I know I was 100 percent wrong about you and I paid for it dearly." Jim Mora will be on KJR 950 on the Dave Softy Maller show at 12:00(noon) to explain all that has happened to him that fateful day. Also, rumors are going around that Steve Sarksian is a candidate for the USC job. Could this mean big things for Mora at UW?
Pete Carroll is a BAD Move!

Peter King wrote an insightful article which included his two cents on hiring Carroll as an NFL coach. Read here: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.c...mqb/1.html

As you can see, it's a huge risk for the Seahawks to undergo. Why, hawks? Why?

I don't get why Carroll is perceived as a college coach now dabbling in the pros. His resume seems to be that of a guy who spent most of his career working his way up in the NFL. He only recently took his pro-style game to college and dominated there. I don't think this situation compares at all to other college coaches coming to the NFL without prior experience dealing with pro athletes (i.e. Spurrier, Saban, etc.). Carroll seems to know the NFL game and made USC dominant because of that.

I think this is a great hire. I am excited. Don't discount the marketing aspect of this either. The Seahawks struggled the last few years and the excitement surrounding the franchise was starting to wane. Even those of us bitter about the last few years probably suddenly have renewed optimism now (and will open our wallets come season ticket time).

Hit it right on the head Punter. The article is very biased, like many at SI. It doesnt show coaches who coached in the NFL, went to the college game, and came back. Carroll will be a great fit and hopefully Get Mr Mays in the Seahawks Blue,
Peter King is a douche bag

Like Coughlin and whoever the other coach was that he left out of his examination, Carroll was an NFL coach first. The majority of his career was spent in the NFL as a successful D coordinator. His program has created multiple NFL starters. Our team has talent but much of that talent needs to be developed. I think that is what Pete is going to do...develop that talent where Mora was more interested in developing his system which did not work with our personel

Also, why did King leave out Barry Switzer? The guy won a national championship in college and a superbowl in the nfl. Seems like he left him out because he didn't help his argument.
Pete Carroll is a non-issue
written by Keep Dreamin' Hawks Fans, January 11, 2010
Is Pete Carroll really gonna make a difference? To me it seems like Mora was a scapegoat for a group of mediocre players that couldn't win. The hawks only won 4 games in Holmgren's last year. Then they win 5 games with Mora. How many more coaches does it take for people to realize that a coach isn't going to make a "new dynasty" like "Trojan4Life" suggests?

The real issue that needs to be addressed is the players. The hawks not only need a new o-line, they need a new QB, RB, and secondary. And I haven't seen any players actually own up and take responsibility for the season's failures. It seems to be all Mora's fault. What a joke.
L.A. Seahawks?
written by Gypsylein, January 11, 2010
I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but an interesting thought occurred to me...

The second largest market in the entire country is still without an NFL franchise. My beloved Seahawks just hired a superstar coach who has really made L.A. his home, one who's interests are very vested there.

I recall that in the Ken Behring/Tom Flores years, we were close to moving to L.A. or Anaheim. Paul Allen ultimately is a businessman and wants a high profile championship. Does Pete Carroll really want to come to Seattle, or does he know something we don't?

Just a thought.
Makes me less impressed.

After watching the 60 minutes bit, I have to say I'm not sure Carroll's antics are going to motivate the players that they are supposed to. I hope I'm wrong, but after watching Carroll spout platitudes, I'm less impressed.
Don't get me wrong, I'm obviously rooting for Carroll to right the ship. (It's especially painful living in Jets, Giants, and Pats country.) But I think in order for to effectively motivate NFL players, he's going to have to drastically change his demeanor.

The Seahawks will stay in Seattle. Paul Allen has ties to the city. At least that is what I want to believe. If LA is such a huge and profitable market, why has it been without a team for so long? There has to be something to it. Anyways, Seattle and all of the Pacific NW deserve its Seahawks.

The reason LA has been without a team is a complex one it has to do with the lack of a stadium and the unwillingness of the city govt. to authorize the zoning for the building of a new stadium.
Right now the LA job market and economy is crashing this new stadium was pushed through to create over 110 thousand jobs and generate revenue for the city. It was no easy fit getting past all the red tape even the govenator stepped in, in an effort to try and get this pushed through quickly. That being said there is no way the Hawks are coming here.
Keep Dreamin' Hawks Fans makes good points what he failed to understand or see is that having a coach with clout brings new talent and Pete Carroll has a scary eye for talent. So even if all the player pieces aren't there right now they WILL be there... hence the dynasty reference. It won't happen overnight obviously but I'm going to love making all the naysayers eat their words down the road. This IS the beginning of a new dynasty!!!

No way the USC hawks (love that nickname BTW) move to LA. The writting is on the wall for the Jaguars, they can't sellout home games despite being in the playoff hunt all season and having lots of talent. Jacksonville, Minnesota and any of the Cali teams will be moving to LA, the Hawks aren't going anywhere.
