- LSU specialist Trindon Holliday just ran a 4.27 40-yard dash (unofficial time) and a 4.32. Adam Schefter is calling it a 4.22 which would be the fastest ever since adopting electronic timing.
- Idaho Guard Mike Iupati ran a 5.26 and a 5.29
- Iowa OT Brian Bulaga ran a 5.26 and a 5.30. Walter Jones ran a sub-5.0 40-yard dash, just for the comparison.
- OT Bruce Campbell ran a 4.78 and a 4.81 at 6'6" 314. Insane! He looks like a wrestler.
- Rutgers OT Anthony Davis did only 21 reps on the bench press, which is bad-ish, and ran a 5.38 and 5.41. Look for his draft stock to drop.
- Mount Cody is not running today, but he just weighed in at 354 lbs, about 16 less than at the Senior Bowl. Big news for him.
- Small school sensation Vlad Ducasse from Massachusetts ran a 5.26
Bench press info (how many reps at 225 lbs):
- Brian Bulaga - 26
- Anthony Davis - 21
- Russell Okung - 38 (!)

Campbell ran in Walter Jones's class. 4.78 ain't bad for a 314 lb OT. Wow! I'd love to give Gibbs a chance to develop Campbell since he's touted as bigger, defninately faster, and generally possessing more upside than Brown if he's not injury prone. He's the best ZBS LT prospect out there.
Walter football said that if it wasn't for the injuries he's had, he would be the top OT off the board not Okung. Get our doctors in there and see what they say and try to get it figured out. If our team doctors came to a unanamous decision and recommended that Campbell shouldn't have any lasting problems, that's the OT for me this year. I could live with him at number 6 if the doctors cleared him all the way. He's generally been dropping within two or three picks behind us in the mocks.
He has that all important ingrediant that the great LT's have in quick feet and an ability to mirror his man. I believe that was Walter Jones's best skill and ultimately what allowed him to be such a good protector. When a LT can keep his body between his man and the QB, the QB do be safe.

I cant believe Okung! What a beast! Thats amazing for a guy with long arms to bench that many reps! And Campbell's/Williams times are nuts.
I think we're gonna get a LT at 14 or 40 and be real happy with whoever we get. I dont think Okung will fall to 6, and Cambell might not either. But Brown and Bulaga will be there at 14. But theres no way all those guys are gone by 14, and Williams and a couple others should be there at 40. So anyway you look at it, we're bound to get a quality LT and make the line geeks (like Billt and even me) really happy.
Now can we please land Dez Bryant at 6?! 6'-3" tall, 225 lbs and pretty fast! Sounds like a faster Fitzgerald or a younger Andre Johnson to me! If Dez is gone, I like Haden and Berry though I think I prefer Haden, as I really like Thomas from Texas and believe we can get him PERHAPS at 40.
Nothing ever falls exactly as I hope--and sometimes thats a good thing!--but Im pretty sure I'll end up as happy this year as I was the last couple years. Maybe this time we get some real impact players instead of just roleplayers and future-stars though.
Wouldnt it be crazy if we got a LT, iupati, AND a WR like Bryant or Tate with our top 3 picks?! I'd be in heaven. Im confident we can find a starting FS in round 4, and I have to say I am intrigued by Myron Rolle. He's exactly the kind of guy Ruskell would have traded the farm for and over-drafted, and if he falls why not go get him in the third or fourth? Does anyone know where the Mocks have him going?

I read that Walter Jones ran a 4.6 at well above 300 pounds in some article about the decision to draft him.
That said, Bruce Campbell would be a good choice if he wasn't injury prone. Sometimes football players are just injury prone, like DJ Hackett. We need players with no injury questions with our early picks. Later picks can be more risky.

Anthony Davis is on several scouts lists as a potentially dangerous pick, and although the Bench doesn't mean too much, this is a prime example why. A guy that weights 335 lbs can only throw up 225 lbs 21 times! I don't know how else to put this, but what a puss. I weigh 185 lbs. and I can put up 225 lbs. 12 times (I did it just this week because the combine was coming up, so my buddies and I were joking around when we were lifting that it would be good for us to do some of the combine activities, so we can single out who is a complete underperformer). Anyways, moral of the story is the guys is bordering on being a complete puss and should probably just begin to carry a purse around and paint his nails pink.

STTBM,
If Campbell and Bryant are gone by number 6, think what that'll mean for us. The top 5 would include Suh, Campbell, Bryant and probably one of the QB's leaving Okung, Berry, Haden, McCoy, and the other QB on the table for the Seahawks minus one player to fill out the top 5.
In that scenario, either Okung or McCoy would be there along with a great chance that the other franchise QB will too. Up to now, it's looking like we may have a choice between Berry and Haden and an outside shot at one of the QB's but having Campbell and Bryant (or any other two surprises) jump up in the top 5 would force players like Mccoy and Okung down into our pick.
Last season, we were agonizing over who we might end up with at number 4 and some of the prospects weren't so palatable or deemed worth of such a high pick (fortunately Curry fell to us and alleviated those concerns). This season, I'm just stoked over who we might land. I can't see any scenario where there isn't a blue chip prospect for us at number 6 who fits one of our primary needs. Can't get any better than that. Now it's just down to who is actually there when we come on the board and even one surprise player junping into the top 5 gives us more than a couple players to choose from.
I hope we do see a couple of sleepers in the top 5 because that just makes it more likely one of the real prizes like Okung or McCoy could get to us.

Campbell was a beast. Charles Brown looked awesome as well. I'd be stoked with either of those guys at #14.
At #6, I like Joe Haden the most personally. Berry is a good player, but I'd much rather have a potentially dominant Corner over a potentially dominate Safety. Derrick Morgan sounds eerily like Lawrence Jackson after his junior year. I like Jason Pierre-Paul, but #6 is too early to take that big of a gamble, even though the upside is ridiculous. I'd much rather get Brown, Campbell, possibly Davis at #14 over taking Okung at #6. Okung is a good player but I just never saw the "dominance" that I'd want from a top 10 OT. Trent Williams is going to be a RT, albeit a dominant one. No way you take him at #6 or #14. I'd be surprised if he's not a 49er.
Personally, I'd like to see...
#6 CB Joe Haden: Shutdown corner with little to no flaws. Not the tallest but decent height and very physical.
#14 OT Charles Brown or Bruce Campbell: Need to get an athletic LT. Both guys fit Gibbs style.
#40 WR Demaryius Thomas: Hawks have never had a physically imposing WR with true #1 potential. Had he played in a normal college offense, I think he would be a top 15 type talent (challenging Dez Bryant).
4th round: Best big RB, possibly Hardesty, Dixon, Blount, etc. Forsett + a big body would be a great combo without having to invest a lot of $ or a high pick on a RB.
I think Carroll and Co. can get a decent pass rush with what's on the roster already. I think we will see Curry and Tapp used more creatively towards their strong attributes. I'm personally hoping to see us take a few chances in this draft with getting guys who we think can become great. I got really sick of TR's method of drafting the safe guy and basing things off how "bad" a guy could be over how "great" he can become.

If we all know he's good, so do they.
Cambell is a workout stud, but, remember he has very little experience. Okung is a way better player at this stage, but Cambell "Could" turn into a phenominal player. But do you risk a #6 on that?
So many choices and possibilities that might happen...
Can't wait.

Nice call on Demaryius Thomas, he might be the perfect pick at 40. Hopefully the draft falls along the lines you have laid out, as that seems a nice balanced selection for the Seahawks.

...the hope that the Seahawks end up with one of the premier playmakers in the secondary (Berry/Haden/Thomas) and your scenario covers that. Taking the best LT at 14 (maybe Brown) and then a playmaker on offense at 40 (Thomas at WR).
I don't think Blount will make it to the 4th round, maybe not much farther than 40, but what about someone like Stafon Johnson. To your point, someone at RB will be there that will complement Forsett.
Another way to go would be to take someone like Pouncy at 40. With him and a new tackle, the O-line should be set pretty well.

You trade down from #14 and get the #20 pick and gain an extra second rounder.
#6: CB Joe Haden
#20: OT Charles Brown
#40: WR Demaryius Thomas
2nd Second Rounder: S Chad Jones or DT Lamar Houston (presumably both could fall due to depth at their respective positions in this draft). I think I'd prefer Jones due to bigger WRs in the NFC West.
4th Rounder: Best big body RB. Blount, Dixon, Hardesty, etc.
I think this would be a perfect world scenario. Adding a playmaker and a physical presence to the secondary with Joe Haden and Chad Jones. Plug and play ZBS LOT in Charles Brown. Physical playmaker on the offense in WR Demaryius Thomas. Big body RB to compliment Forsett and ultimately not spend a high pick or big $ on a RB.
I still firmly believe that the pass rush will drastically improve with an improved offense that can sustain drives and because I think Carroll will get creative on defense and put guys in better positions rather than trying to squeeze and square peg in a round hole.

I think taking a chance on a player with a bigger upside can be a good tactic especially if your scouting staff has a good record of hitting on more obscure players.
The problem in Seattle (and other NFL cities) but expecially here is when a GM/HC takes a chance and the player gets injured like Tubbs or Branch or is genuinly a bust like Lamar King, he (the GM/HC) really takes a beating from fans. You get the pundits about how you could have had this guy or that guy and you chose the bust (which is what they also call an injured player in Seattle along with the real busts).
If you want your GM/HC to go for upside like taking a chance on Jason Pierre-Paul high or Bruce Campbell, you have to be more tolerant if they don't pan out because they all won't. If you want that aggresive approach to finding elite players, you've got to have the tempermaent to weather the failures and the times it didn't work out without crucifying the guy trying to make it happen or he'll start playing it safe. Of course if all his picks are like that (bad for some reason) that may be a differnt symptom and a differnt story but if the guy is finding a few jewels in players other teams are not seeing the value in, he's doing good under that way of acquiring players and he needs to be given a few mulligans.
I have my doubts Seattle fans could be that patient and tolerant but stranger things have happened I guess.
I would take a chance on Campbell this year because of his upside. He's got enough natural ability to become an elite LT with the right coach (Gibbs anyone) and I'd just love to see another elite LT play in Seattle for another decade. You may never see another Walter Jones but I'll bet sooner or later, someone is going to be very close.

Billt--I really dont see anyone thinking McCoy will be a top-10 pick. He might even fall to the second round or worse. He wont be taken higher than the third qb taken, and it would be a terrible waste (IMO) to take him at 6. I would rather have Okung, Brandford, Haden, Bradford, Bryant, Campbell, McCoy, Suh, the list goes on and on...I would even rather have Spiller at 6 than McCoy.
I cant stand McCoy--he's been supposed to set the world on fire each and every weak, and he was clearly not one of the top 3 qb's for 80% of his senior season. In fact, he seemed to regress badly. I like Bradford, minus his shoulder, but I dont want a qb in the first round this year period. God forbid we take McCoy.
What makes you think he's worth the sixth pick, outside his positional value? What makes you think he's a better choice than Bradford or even the smaller college qb's?
Im not trying to put you on the spot, I am really interested in your opinion. I watched McCoy off an on the last few years, and I never saw him play exceptionally--even though he was surrounded by top talent. But hey, I hated Peyton Manning in Colleget too--still do--and look how he turned out! (he's still a putz, but he's amazing.)

C'mon people. who cares how fast a lineman is? how much of a difference can 3-4 tenths of a second make in blocking? to say now that bruce campbell and trent williams are better lineman than Buluga and Lupati is utterly ridiculous! Falling in love with speed and bench presses? This is how bad draft decisions get made. I am sure Al Davis would welcome you in to the raiders front office.
This kind of stuff happens every year come combine time, and it is how great players fall and bad picks rise. If you want to judge how a player will perform on the field, the only accurate way to judge is by watching tape. and the only lineman who played 2+ games against superior NFL pass rush prospects was Buluga. (Derrick Morgan, Brandon Graham... He shut them both down!)

and seriously, despite what most of you think, the left tackle in the ZBS system doesn't move a lot. he is not a guy who routinely makes cut blocks or moves inside. his responsibiilites are largely the same as any other blocking system. so freakish athleticism, while good, should not be the only determining factor in drafting a Tackle.
There should be a few things considered before that. like: the ability to stay healthy in college (Williams and Campbell? FAIL), Great games against superior Players(FAIL), Performance on field.
Williams certainly had a bad year, and didnt even finsh the year at Left Tackle IN COLLEGE!!! I am sorry, but if you can't handle the pass rush in the big 12, you have no place as a left tackle in the NFL!!!
Campbell? Okay, at best. but name me a great player he lined up against?
Buluga on the other hand, played in the ZBS system in college. and notice how Iowa has been an outstanding team in the big 10 the past 2 years? think that it might have anything to do wtih Buluga taking over at Left Tackle at that point? because i do!
Okung is the #1 tackle in the draft, but Buluga is #1A. Okung is not likely to be there at 6, but Buluga certainly will and he might be there at 14. But, i doubt that. all you have to do is watch tape of iowa the past two years and you can see how dominate he was. I challenge you to go to youtube and look at Iowa highlights. You will see what i mean. and so will the NFL scouts. Mark my words, Buluga is a future pro bowler.
There should be a few things considered before that. like: the ability to stay healthy in college (Williams and Campbell? FAIL), Great games against superior Players(FAIL), Performance on field.

I will officially second Hawksince77's plan of solidifying the line for the next 10 years! i have said almost the exact same thing in the past. Take the #2 tackle, the #1 guard and another solid contributor in the draft and not worry about that unit again for at least 5-6 years. Everything begins with a good line, and we have the capability to make ours the best(and youngest) line in the league in this draft.

Dear Mr. Beercan I applaud both yours and hawk77's posts. I agree that if we give ourselves one of the top O-lines i think we can get the best play out of matt that any of us have ever seen. Once you have that the running game pretty much falls into place. Screw more receivers we already know the potential of what we have we've all seen how hard Nate fights to break tackles and the yac he get's when he does. Can you imagine how little our Defense would even need to win games with matt connecting like the seasoned all-pro he is. And with a maybe a good find in the later rounds on defense we could have the division again and be one more good draft away from having a team that can throw any players in and get results like GOD FORBID the mother effin stealers. im sorry if that was an incoherent ramble, but it was the incoherent ramble of a mad hawks fan who can see victory just over the horizon. i just have this crazy idea in my head that old petey carrol might just be putting together one hell of a last crack at the big leauges

These combine times and reps prove nothing. You Matt die hards are nuts...lol. He's done. Let's get a quarterback worthy of a new o-line and move forward. Matt had one of the best lines in the league and was only average. Matt Hasselbeck shined in a horrible non-competitive division and he and Jake Delhomme only made the Pro Bowl because they were the one time talentless NFC's best of the worst.

STTBM spoketh unwisely
Slave, that would indeed be Gerald McCoy, DT who will probably be long gone by #6 unless as you speculated, Campbell and Bryant were selected in the top 5. I just further speculated that if Campbell, Bryant, and Suh plus one of the QB's were taken in the top 5, either McCoy (Gerald) or Okung would be available to us (or one of the QB's but certainly not Colt McCoy).
Billt--I really dont see anyone thinking McCoy will be a top-10 pick. He might even fall to the second round or worse.

Yeah, Billt-I figured that out. Im pretty slow sometimes! Doh! Guess Im just too used to having major differences of opinion with you about who we should draft, though we're pretty close this year!
Wouldnt it be great if we got Dez Bryant/Joe Haden at 6, a top LT at 14, and a great G like iupati at 40 (or Golden Tate), plus a good safety like Rolle or a decent back in the fourth? Then almost everyone would be happy. I dont think we draft a DE this year, not enough talent. DT is lame in this draft as well, outside the top 2.
I think we're all gonna be pretty happy this year with the draft. Having three picks in the top 40 is awesome, and I think this draft is pretty stocked with talent at most of our positions of need. Sure wish we had a third rounder this year though, there's some great backs that will go in this round.
