According to Rotoworld, the Chargers have given the Seahawks permission to talk to Vincent Jackson. Jackson is unhappy with his contract in San Diego and has been holding out of training camp in an attempt to force the team to negotiate a new deal. Unfortunately for him, the Chargers' response to date has been to ignore him and sign former Bills wideout Josh Reed.
Since joining the Chargers in 2005, Jackson has seen his receptions and yards increase every season since and is coming off of back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons. However, signing the disgruntled wide receiver would come with some risk attached. Jackson missed a Week 17 game last season with an achilles injury (although he did return to grab 7 catches for 111 yards in the Chargers' playoff los to the Jets), and he will be suspended for the first three games of the 2010 season after a DUI arrest this offseason, his second in two years.
It's important to keep in mind that thus far talking is all that's happened -- there's no guarantee that he will sign deal with Seattle or that the team will be willing to pay San Diego's asking price for the trade. But caveats aren't as much fun as idle speculation, so here's a question for you all: if Vincent Jackson becomes a Seahawk, who would he be replacing on the roster?

Housh is battle tested and ok, Branch is the same. I love all the kids, how about Obomanu? Or one of the tight ends?

it's tough on a fan when he can't stand one of the main players on his favorite team.

If Jackson comes, I think Housh would be the one most likely on the way out, since he'd likely complain about playing second fiddle. Isn't that why he wanted out of Cincy in the first place?
And if we move Housh, it would have to be to a third team. I can't see San Diego having much interest in Housh or Branch because they've already got Antonio Gates filling the short route niche in their offense. They ask their WRs to run deeper routes, so I can only see them interested in Butler or Tate. Butler's trade value is limited until he proves something, so the Seahawks are better off keeping him. Tate, well nobody here wants him traded, lol.
Another thing that acquiring Jackson might precipitate is a qb change. To fully utilize his skills, you have to throw deep a lot, which suggests taking our lumps and phasing out Hasselbeck sooner in favor of Whitehurst.

While Branch hasn't lived up to expectations, he's been injured alot, which in itself is bad. Houshmandzadeh didn't perform up to expectations last year, but wasn't injured. TJ also has a much higher cost for 4 more years, Branch has only 2 years on his contract.
I too think we're not hearing enough good about TJ during camp. His attitude makes me wonder who the biggest mouth in Cin's locker room was.

I may sound crazy, but I say we keep Branch as long as it takes until we get one solid ass year from him. He already got the money, he isnt worth much, so why bother getting rid of him now? Its time to lick our wounds, and hope that he is like wine and only gets better in age and experience.

Wow you have a short memory. Have you forgotten the video game numbers that D-Jax and Koren put up with Matt throwing them the ball? Or Bobby Engram?!? These were NOT marquee players, but they were hugely successful in Holmgren's system, and with Matt throwing to them.

Our receiving corp would then be Jackson, Housh, Williams, Branch, Tate, and Butler. I don't know how you don't use all of these guys, but we would hopefully let Branch out of any of these players go simply because of upside. Imagine a defense trying to defend against 5 receiver sets if we do pick him up

Our biggest needs are running back and a speedy pass rushing DE. VJ would be a nice addition, but why not work a trade to take care of our biggest needs first?

I happen to agree with HawksFan80 (even if he is a 49's plant). I've never liked Hasselback and never will. He is just not a "winner". Our one and only SB appearance loss was his inability to "put the final nail in the coffin". Yes, he has a winning record but does not have the intangible quality of an elite QB. Hasselback is "acceptable" but not "exceptional". I think what we want is exceptional and Hass is not ever going to give us that.
