Citing a personnel source, Adam Caplan of Fox Sports is reporting that Seattle's will most likely not be successful in trading TJ Houshmandzadeh. Housh's entire $7 million salary for '10 is guaranteed, and teams don't like to pay that kind of money for a guy who's at his best playing in the slot.
The team could cut him next year, as his 2011 salary is not guaranteed, but I for one hope he stays. The guy's vocal, sure, but unlike some guys he doesn't let his mouth affect his production on the field. His salary is high, but that's more indicative of how badly the team needed a quality receiver after the '08 season -- after a year of Keary Colbert and Billy McMullen, the Seahawks were willing to pay their firstborn children for a guy who could reliably catch the ball and stay healthy doing it. And in a dismal 2009 season when nothing went right for the offense, Houshmandzadeh was the team's leading receiver, catching 79 passes for 911 yards. Hell, in '08 the guy was forced to rely on Ryan Fitzpatrick's weiner of an arm and still topped 900 yards receiving.
Us northwest types may not be comfortable with a guy who likes to shoot his mouth off as much as Houshmandzadeh does, but his play on the field says all the right things.
