Top 10 of the Top 50 Remaining

Written by Chris Sullivan on .

There are just a ton of players left in this draft, and unfortunately, the Seahawks have only one pick tonight, barring trades (which, since Pete Carroll isn't tweeting this morning, may be a possibility). I thought I'd break down some of the remaining players and pick the top 10 (okay, okay, 11) Seahawk Fits of the next fifty or so players. This is not in order of need, but is based on the remaining members of Top 100 players. I will focus on people I think will be possible when the Seahawks pick at #60 or could trade up or down reasonably to take.

  1. Everson Griffen - DE - USC: It's unlikely that he falls to 60, but every team looks for something different in defensive ends. No one expected Brandon Graham to go before Derrick Morgan, but there ya go.
  2. Damian Williams - WR - USC: I'm not trying to pick USC players on purpose, but none went in the first round so there is some value there. Williams has okay size but great, reliable skills. He could contribute from day one, but not a huge playmaker.
  3. Carlos Dunlap - DE - Florida: I've never been a huge fan of Dunlap, but he's an absolute physical freak who could very well fall to the Seahawks at #60. People question his character and his work ethic, but no one doubts his physical skills. If we could get him going, he has the same upside as a Jason Pierre-Paul. Huge position of need.
  4. Taylor Mays - SS - USC: Could he be there at 60? You bet. There is a strong chance that the Cowboys take him, and a few other teams could consider him, but if he did drop to us at 60 he offers good value and a potential stud. His weaknesses are very well known, so his floor is somewhat high to Carroll's Seahawks: if drafted, he'll be brought in to do what he does.
  5. Arrelious Benn - WR - Illinois: Come on, feel the Illinoise! Benn was talked about for quite awhile as the top WR in the draft. He's got playmaking ability, speed and size, but has plenty of question marks too. John Schneider had loads of luck taking 2nd round WRs in Green Bay.
  6. Brandon LaFell - WR - LSU: Again, a potential first rounder who saw his stock plummet after a so-so year. LaFell is a potential star if he's got a QB who can get him the ball, and might very well be there at 60.
  7. Corey Wootton - DE - Northwestern: Wootton would be a first rounder many years, but not in this draft. He is huge -- 6'7" 270, but has the frame to add a few more pounds. Very long arms and a decent first step, he could contribute early on for the Seahawks.
  8. Montario Hardesty - RB - Tennessee: The one running back that I think is worth grabbing in the 2nd round, Hardesty would be a dream fit for this offense and a nice complement to the smaller, shiftier (but strong) Justin Forsett. I expect there to be a run on RBs in the middle of the second, so we might need to trade up for him.
  9. Lamarr Houston - DT - Texas: A guy I've seen fall to us in many mocks, Houston is a stud who has been underrated only because this is such a deep DT draft. I think DE is a bigger need at this point, but if we're looking DT early, Houston would be a solid choice.
  10. Mardy Gilyard - WR - Cincinatti: Might be available in the third, so perhaps the Seahawks could trade down and pick up a third and an extra pick along the way. Gilyard has the potential to be a big time NFL receiver.
  11. Greg Hardy - DE - Ole Miss: A high skill, low work ethic guy (or at least, that's been his criticism) Hardy was considered a first round pick for a long time, but his mediocre pre-draft season killed him. If we can get him inspired, Hardy might be worth trading up out of our early 4th to snag at the bottom of 3.
