Just as improbable as Earl Thomas dropping to the Seahawks at No.14 overall Friday night, former Notre Dame WR Golden Tate didn't hear his name called until No.60 earlier tonight.

And Pete Carroll and John Schneider couldn't have been happier about it, but the chance didn't come without a fleeting moment of doubt.

Just before the Seahawks were on the clock, none other than Mike Holmgren traded picks to jump one spot in front of his former team in his first year as president of the Cleveland Browns, presumably to grab Tate. The Seahawks staff were soon breathing a sigh of relief, however, when Holmgren opted for QB Colt McCoy RB Montarrio Hardesty [ed. oops, he switched the picks up] instead.

"We were holding our breath for a minute," Seahawks scout Jason Barnes said afterward.

And rightfully so. The Browns have been in serious need of depth at wide receiver since losing Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets last year. The needs at quarterback outweighed those at wideout, however, with only Seneca Wallace, Jake Delhomme and Brett Ratliff currently on the roster. Not exactly a Pro Bowl trio of signal callers.

So the Seahawks were thrilled when they found Golden Tate available at No.60 overall. Tate had a huge season as a junior in 2009, catching 93 passes for 1,496 yards and 15 touchdowns. Many critics of QB Jimmy Clausen cited Tate as the reason for Clausen's seemingly-inflated stats, and judging by the fact that Clausen could've very well been chosen later than Tate, it would appear most teams listened to the critique.

But Tate should be an automatic difference-maker in a Seattle receiving corps that lost Nate Burleson in free agency and needs drastic improvement in consistency. Tate may also end up being a weapon in punt or kick returns, depending on what Pete Carroll decides. Tate also gives a great interview on how excited he is to be a Seahawk here.

As my old buddy Cousin Tam said earlier today: This could be the draft that we remember as saving the franchise.

Just a quick mention, the Browns leapfrogged us to pick MONTARIO HARDESTY, not Colt McCoy. Just wanted to point that out, hehe

So what's next? We still need DE, RB, CB and OL. We up at #6 tomorrow. Who do we take?

We can see who is left to take here: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2010/...n-input:rb

I like Blount as a RB, Griffen at DE, it looks like there is some good CB still available too. What do you think?

Thanks to Mr. Allen

After Paul Allen had seen enough, he decided to intervene and kick the incompetent fools who were running, (I mean ruining) this team, to the curb. Now he’s recruited the leadership we need to restore the pride the Hawks once brought to this town. It’s going to take some time, but I sense that good things are in store for this team. Mr. Allen, we are very fortunate to have you, and you are, by far, THE BEST OWNER IN THE ENTIRE NFL. THANK YOU!

Continuing along the previous post, Seahawks fans have been blessed to have Mr. Allen and the Nordstrom family as owners. I'd agree two of the very best.

Now to football. I think it might even be worth it to trade up from the 6th pick with the Lamb to take Griffen. He was rated as late 1st round talent.

would be a Branch trade tomorrow.

trade branch for the 1st in the 4th and get griffen. that could be the steal of the draft. and at some point i think bruce campbell could be a steal in the 4th as well... myron rolle in the fifth would really get me stoked
Seems like a serious guy

He was very reserved in that interview. I would not call him excited. I think he has to be pissed he fell to 60. Hopefully that will really motivate him to prove that teams were stupid to pass on him. Great pick regardless.
I want Bruce Campbell tomorrow

You know alex gibbs must love a challenge. Lets give him quite possibly one of the most raw and athletic lineman there has ever been in a draft and see what he can do with him. With his freak-of-nature athletic ability, he could really do well in the ZBS with some time and intense coaching. Could be a great project for Right Tackle eventually

I hear all these people talking about Griffen...The best scouting report in the world won't tell a coach what Pete Carroll knows about Griffen, so if he isn't picked, rest assured that there's a mighty good reason for it...Just sayin'...
I'd look for, in no particular order
written by Highlander, April 24, 2010
In no particular order, I'd like to see some of these selected:

TE Anthony McCoy USC
C Matt Tennant BC
QB John Skelton Fordham
DE Corey Wootton Northwestern
S Kurt Coleman Ohio State
RB Joe McKnight USC or RB Anthony Dixon Mississippi State
DT Al Woods LSU
OT Selvish Capers West Virginia
DE Austen Lane Murray State

can add Lonyae Miller to that list I suppose...hard to tell how good he is given he sat behind a first round RB.

I commented yesterday about Caroll knows his own players best Nightwulf. Mays can be pissed all he wants, he has no reason to be, he's in the freakin NFL! He still gets more money than i'll probably see in my lifetime.

Man STTBM must be over come with joy over this pick, I know I am and I wasn't really on the WR wagon. I didn't expect Tate to fall this far in the draft, dude is gonna be sick. He plays like a RB, he has the moves and strength to take it to the house every time he gets his hands on the ball.

He seems to be a very competitive guy so you know hes gonna be motivated about proving all those teams wrong. I can see him going on a Steve Smith type of rampage.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that Al Davis is in a coma? Oakland seems to be actually making solid picks in this draft for the first time in forever. Except for slightly reaching for McClain his draft actually makes sense, I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

Hawksfan80,
I think you are dead wrong.

Aaron Curry is 6ft 3, not a midget by any means what so ever, and Earl Thomas is 6ft which is the EXACT same size as Ed Reed. I didn't once hear ANYONE say anthing bad about Earl Thomas, not one, nothing was even said about his height at all. 6ft is above average size for a DB, and most of the good ones are in the 5ft 10- 6ft. Name 1 safety who is any good that is taller than 6ft 2, I can't think of a single one.

Seriously all you do is whine Hawkfan, it doesn't matter what the topic is all you do is complain about our all pro QB. We talk about the stadium and you come in to whine about Matt. We talk about our jerseys and you whine about Matt. We talk about our new coaching staff and you whine about Matt. You don't contribute to intelligent conversations in anyway.

I will be hoping for RB from Oregon; Blount I think? He has issues, yet a large RB in the "Bus" mold would be nice. Branch seem like dead weight with the draft of Tate, trade his hindend.

Well, there goes Griffin to the Vikes. I gotta say I'm kinda agreeing with The Realist. Campbell would be a great tackle project.

I love Earl Thomas, but he is 5'-10 1/2" tall, an inch and a half short of 6 feet. He is 208 lbs, which is pretty burly for his height.

He hits nearly as hard as Berry, is just as good if not better at being a ballhawk, and he even played well at cb against slot recievers.

He is widely considered the second best safety prospect since Ed Reed and Polamalu. Behind Eric Berry. And if he isnt great at FS, he has the speed, talent, and work ethic to be a fine starting cb, and he's taller and bigger and stronger than our own Josh Wilson.
