The Real McCoy (Sorry)

Written by Chris Sullivan on .

Unfortunately, the best name in the draft (P Zoltan Mesko) is gone, so hopefully we take the best available player here...  Hawks on the clock baby!

With the 185th overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft, your Seattle Seahawks select TE Anthony McCoy from USC! I had a feeling he might be the pick (really, ask Parker). McCoy could have easily been gnoe in the 2nd or 3rd round, and he's someone that Coach Carroll knows intimately. Not a huge pass catch threat, but much better than John Owens. This guy is the real McCoy! ...sorry.

Great value here. His stock fell because he smoked weed. Wah wah. Isn't that sort of required if you live in Southern California? Maybe he had a cold. Anyway, I love the pick. He was a 2nd or 3rd round pick according to Draft Countdown. Here's what they say:

Strengths: Good height with a large frame and long arms --- Very athletic --- Soft, reliable hands --- Excellent ball skills and body control --- A fine route runner --- Great strength --- Runs hard after the catch --- Shows the ability to stretch the field vertically --- Is extremely tough --- A superb all-around blocker --- Competitive --- A hard worker --- Still  has upside.

Weaknesses: Could stand to add some more weight --- Lacks explosiveness --- Just average speed and quickness --- Isn't elusive --- Not overly physical or powerful --- Wasn't  incredibly productive --- Durability may be an issue.

What do you think?

[Update - This was the best player available, for sure. Had he been gone, it would have likely been a tackle like Selvish Capers or Tony Washington. Look for us to grab a boatload of UFA linemen.]

[Update 2 - McShay just called McCoy the steal of the draft as far as tight ends go]
