Are there any trade partners left? Who knows. The Seahawks are on the clock, and there are plenty of possibilities left:
- Derrick Morgan
- Jimmy Clausen
- Dez Bryant
- Earl Thomas* (he didn't get taken by the Eagles!)
With the 14th Pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, YOUR Seattle Seahawks select...
Safety Earl Thomas, Texas. A phenomenal young player who can make plays. He is a true free safety with more playmaking ability than Berry, but definitely not as diverse in his skill set. Could be a superstar in this league, but I'm a bit concerned with the lack of attention to our defensive line. Still a chance we could be trading Thomas to someone (the Packers), but unlikely.
Mike Mayock has had Thomas ranked as his top safety all season, and I once said a similar thing. Again, we'll be covering things more completely at the end of the draft, but we just got two phenomenal players in our first round.

This all but fixes our secondary and our o-line! Everything will improve because of these two picks

Amazing.
And amazing what other teams did. Taking Williams at 4? That seems studid to me. Trading up to 13 to take Graham and not Thomas? OMG. And Alualu at 10? Really?
Thank you, Phili, Jacksonville, Washington -- I really appreciate it!!!!!

our two most important needs resolved with the arguably two best players at the position. Remember we were the 30th ranked pass defense. How many times did we get torched long? Thomas will cut that number in half because his instincts are the best!
FTW and can you DIG it!
Whooooohooooooooooooooo!!!
Remember this draft for years to come..YAAAAAYYY

we'll probably get a de, rb, dt, wr and maybe a qb and more o line depth..

Morgan looked too much like Lo Jack on film, Thomas is a Super Beast, the likes of which we have not had in the Secondary since Easley...if he's 80% of Easley, that will be solid indeed.

Okung and Thomas. Are you kidding me! IT'S LIKE WE TRADED UP!
Put it this way, would you rather have had Berry and Brown or Okung and Thomas as your LT, safety combination?

We dodged the high risk picks of either Morgan or JPP and Spiller wasn't even an option. That was enough to make me happy. Then we got arguably the best safety and LT in the draft from the number 6 and 14 position. That's enough to make anyone a little rummy. Clausen is dropping like a rock.

I also see BillT repeating what I said earlier today before the draft began about Pete Carroll probably knowing Clausen better than anyone. Again, oh well. Anyway, as I said then, if Carroll decides not to go for Jimmy, I'll be OK with it
It looks like we're drafting for immediate need this year.

Taking a mediocre pass rusher (Morgan) or a high-risk one (JPP) would have been a mistake when an elite safety was there (Thomas). That's what it is about -- getting value with the pick.

I would like to see another safety (perhaps a thumper like Kam Chancellor in the 4th) and someone like Tate or Houston at 60, and another guard or tackle in later rounds.
Way too cool. Don't have to reach for an LT (one of my fears) or take a luxury pick on Bryant or Spiller.
Way too effing cool...

Will Belaga be this years Oher? Falling into the twenties in the first round after being touted as a top ten pick. Could be a great value pick.

Claussen fell for a reason folks--despite his guady stats and potential, he has enough warning flags to make him far from a sure bet. And his buthheaded lack of leadership on the Gruden show obviously scared many teams away from him. Imagine, being passed over for Tebow!
Thomas is perhaps the best cover safety in years and years, despite being only 5'-10 1/2" tall--but remember, he is 208 lbs. He's also ripped and has no fat at all. He's a fantastic athlete who also runs 4.3-4.4 40's, AND he hits harder than Wilson.
He is actually better in coverage than Eric Berry. And as I said, he's a hitter too. AND he can play nickel back one on one with slot WR's too. Pretty good deal at 14.
Hawks said they were considering Claussen at 14 (yuck), and if Philly had taken Thomas they would have traded down (again probably to take Claussen). Im so relieved we got Thomas!
Ive been calling for him since the mocks began listing him as a possibility at 40. Boy did he climb!
Also, both Okung and Thomas have hard times in thier past, and both intend to buy houses for thier parent(s). Thomas' family is living in one room as thier house was destroyed in a hurricane in 2005. Thomas came out of college TWO YEARS EARLY to buy them a house. Pretty cool story. And remember, he's only 20, which means he could conceivably lock down the FS position for a decade, then finish at SS for another few years.
How can anyone be unhappy with this haul?!
I still cant believe the stinking Cowturds got thier man in Dez Bryant. They are really gonna love him down there. Yuck! I really wish he'd gone somewhere I didnt hate!
