A new era began today at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, as head coach Pete Carroll led his new-look Seattle Seahawks in the first day of minicamp practice after the 2010 Draft. Plenty of news and notes are floating around out there -- some good, some bad -- but either way, this day holds its own significance.

  • RB LenDale White reported to camp "looking great," according to both his former coach and White himself. "He looks great," Carroll said. "He's 218. I can't remember him ever being that light. I don't think he was that light when we recruited him way back when." Promising news so far for 1/3 of the new Seattle run game. Leon Washington will continue to miss time while healing from a broken leg.
  • Golden Tate was one of the stars of practice today, according to Mike Sando. Tate made plays against both Marcus Trufant and Josh Wilson, and displayed great body control.
  • TJ Houshmandzadeh will miss a few weeks after recovering from sports hernia surgery. Not good news by any standard, but Housh is a durable player and there's still plenty of time left until training camp, let alone the regular season.
  • Surprise, surprise: Deion Branch is once again sitting out of practice due to, yes, you guessed it, more knee trouble. He recently underwent yet another scope procedure on the same knee that's kept him off the field for the past couple of seasons in Seattle. Too bad he probably carries close to zero trade value by now.
  • First-round pick Russell Okung looked sharp today, keeping his body low and displaying excellent strength and balance. Let's hope he channels some Walter Jones in the coming months.
  • A total of 101 players were out practicing with the Seahawks today in Renton. Quite a load of bodies on the field, and competition is fierce.
I'm curious to hear how Charlie Whitehurst is performing. He's the biggest question mark so far, and probably the one under the most scrutiny.
