I'm still in a state of euphoric bliss following the Seahawks' blowout victory, but I've had enough time to name the MVPs for today:

OFFENSE:

  • Offensive Line - Didn't notice them much, did you? Hey, me neither, and that's a fantastic thing. Here's what I did notice though: 0 sacks on Matt Hasselbeck, 167 yards rushing. No false starts, no holds. What more could you possibly ask for out of an offensive line?
  • Runner-up: Matt Hasselbeck - 69.4% completion percentage, 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions in an awful first quarter. Matt and the offense started off slow, made some mistakes, and failed to take advantage of big opportunities. He shrugged that off and put together an incredible game, tossing for 279 yards and posting a QB rating of 96.9 (it was in the 30s going into the 2nd quarter).
  • 2nd Runner-up: John Carlson - 6 receptions for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Solid blocking, and just . . . incredible. One of the top young talents in the NFL.
DEFENSE:
  • Darryl Tapp - He was all over the field and he isn't even a starter. Tapp had 3 tackles, an uncredited sack (about which he said: "All I saw was ribcage, so that's what I hit." Awesome.), and a pass deflection. He was consistently disruptive and was altogether very impressive.
  • Runner-up: Will Herring & David Hawthorne - They filled in for two of the top LBs in the league and the defense literally did not skip a beat. Herring especially looked good with a pass breakup, two tackles and was just right where he should be time and time again.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
  • Jon Ryan - Yes, he punted very well (5 punts, 53.2 yard average, two inside the 20 and two touchbacks), but he wins for another reason. On the blocked field goal (that ended up not counting), Ryan was absolutely intent on catching the ball carrier. He sprinted down the field, blowing past blockers and leaving the rest of the Seahawks in his dust. He didn't get there, but that's the sort of effort you just don't see from a punter. Also, I think my wife has a crush on him.
OVERALL MVP:
Well, gee, it's gotta be someone from above, so . . . nah, it's going to the 12th Man. That field at Qwest was absolutely disruptive, leading to five or six substantial penalties, moving the Rams back, back, back. The fans also were clearly fueling the team with energy. It was just awesome and amazing. What other 4-12 team in this country has fans like ours? Proud to be brothers in arms with all of the 12th Men and Women out there!
