Leroy Hill is out for a few weeks hence the signing of D.D.Lewis.

More news:

  • Return of the linemen: Mora said Walter Jones and Chris Spencer would be back on the practice field at some point this week, though it's uncertain if they would be ready to play by Sunday's game at San Francisco.

    Asked specifically if Spencer would automatically regain the starting center duties from Steve Vallos when he's healthy, Mora said it's too early to consider but that he doesn't have a policy that a player can never lose his job by injury.

  • Branch uncertain: Though Mora said Friday that wide receiver Deion Branch would be asked to run Sunday morning to test his hamstring before a decision was made on whether he could play against the Rams, it never got that close.

    "We actually never even got that far," Mora said. "We just decided basically before we even took him on the field, we could tell he wasn't ready to go."

    When might he be back?

    "I wouldn't know," Mora said. "Hopefully this week."
