I made projections at the final 53-man Roster on Tuesday. So, how did I do? 46 of 53 -- funny, because Farnsworth had said there were "about 7" spots to be determined after the Thursday game, haha. Anyway, let's take a lil' looksie:
Offense
Quarterback (3)
Roster: Matt Hasselbeck, Seneca Wallace, Mike Teel
Cut: Jeff Rowe
Comments: Easy. Nexxxxt.
Running Back (3)
Roster: - Julius Jones, Edgerrin James, Justin Forsett
Cut: Devin Moore
Comments: See above.
Fullback (2)
Roster: Justin Griffith, Owen Schmitt
Cut: David Kirtman
Comments: Griffith and Schmitt were always locks.
Tight End (3)
Roster: John Carlson, John Owens, Joe Newton Cameron Morrah
Cut: Cameron Morrah Joe Newton
Comments: Errghhtttt! Wrong. The Hawks went with Cameron Morrah, clearly thinking they can get him to where they need him to be. This will effectively end Joe Newton's career.
Wide Receiver (5)
Roster: TJ Houshmandzadeh, Nate Burleson, Deion Branch, Deon Butler, Courtney Taylor Ben Obamanu
Cut: Ben Obamanu, Courtney Taylor, Jordan Kent, Michael Bumpus, Mike Hass, Logan Payne
Comments: Oh! I was so close. Obamanu proved he belonged in Thursday's game, and was rewarded with a roster spot. Here's hoping Courtney Taylor shines elsewhere, he was awful last year but proved he wanted it this offseason.
Offensive Linemen (10 9)
Roster: Walter Jones, Sean Locklear, Chris Spencer, Rob Sims, Ray Willis, Max Unger, Steve Vallos, Mansfield Wrotto, Kyle Williams
Cut: William Robinson, Na'Shan Goddard, Andre Ramsay, Brian De La Puente, Cory Withrow
Comments: Well, I was right on these, but I forgot how to count. I think De La Puente and Robinson wind up on the Practice Squad, as may Goddard.
Total Offense: 26 25
Defense
Linebacker (6)
Roster: Lofa Tatupu, Leroy Hill, Aaron Curry, D.D. Lewis, David Hawthorne, Will Herring, Lance Laury
Cut: Lance Laury, D.D. Lewis, Dave Philistin
Comments: I shouldn't have made that pick, but I still would've been wrong. Laury needed to make this team as he is excellent on special teams. I still didn't see Lewis getting cut, but he is the oldest, and both Hawthorne and Herring have really stepped up.
Cornerback (4)
Roster: Marcus Trufant [PUP List], Ken Lucas, Josh Wilson, Kelly Jennings, [Kevin Hobbs, Travis Fisher]
Cut: [Kevin Hobbs], Travis Fisher, Marquis Floyd
Comments: Trufant was PUP'd, but Fisher beat out Hobbs. I knew it was close, but again, Hobbs was pretty bad. I whiffed.
Safety (4)
Roster: Deon Grant, Brian Russell, Jordan Babineaux, Jamar Adams, CJ Wallace, Lawyer Milloy
Cut: CJ Wallace, Courtney Greene, Jamar Adams, Brian Russell
Comments: Got to keep this one in here, for posterity's sake. "This was a tough one. I would honestly prefer to cut Russell, start Babs and keep Wallace and Adams, but that isn't going to happen." I knew that Wallace was less likely to be cut than Adams, but I wanted to stick with Jamar. I fail.
Defensive Line (10 11)
Roster: Patrick Kerney, Brandon Mebane, Colin Cole, Cory Redding, Red Bryant, Lawrence Jackson, Darryl Tapp, Nick Reed, Craig Terrell, Michael Bennett, +Derek Walker
Cut: Baraka Atkins, Derek Walker
Comments: I said walker would be on the practice squad. I was wrong. Excited to have him on the team, but I doubt he'll be active.
Total Defense: 24 25
Specialists (3)
Roster: Olindo Mare, Jon Ryan, Kevin Houser
Cut: Brandon Coutu
Comments: Naiiiiled it.
