Olindo Mare was the difference in the game. Housh's fumble really, really hurt.

Post Game Quote: "We're not gonna fight our ass off and have a field goal kicker go out and lose a game." -Jim Mora. Wow, he's pissed at Mare.

Know wonder? Heh.

Knapp is a good play caller and had some pretty damn strong moments today -- the screen pass to Julius, the many routes Burleson ran. What killed us wasn't the play calling, but the stupid mistakes (Housh's fumble, Seneca's one poor throwing decision) and, I hate to say it, but Don Carey's officiating. Don't blame Greg Knapp for doing his job.

Mare, the difference?

Hardly...the difference of this game and the past two seasons is Tim Ruskell. He has been absolute failure as a GM, since joining the organization after SB XL, this team has gotten progressively worse while our opponent in XL have become dominant. Difference is night and day, utter failure.

I do not like where this season is going. we have so many weapons but if our QB can not make a pass and our kicker can not connect we will have another top 5 pick next year.
Denver looks like the winning team for that trade for next year.
Yes it is early but we will not make the playoffs starting this way.
We need to draft a QB next year who can make a difference right away or if Matt gets injured again....

Not only that but we SHOULD have one that game had it not been for Olindo Mare's 6 missed points. Olindo Mare was the difference and I want him GONE. Get Coutu, get Matt Bryant, I don't care who you get, just get rid of Mare. I never liked him and this just sealed it. We should have one this game... DAMN

P.S. Our opponents in XL are 1-2 this year as well... nice try though
no shame
written by 512, September 27, 2009
No shame in that loss for me. We outplayed the Bears down 8 starters. We were in that game with 30 seconds left, with our backup QB and seven other backups playing. Those fools escape with a win they didn't deserve. Our defense played incredible. Nate Burleson is a stud. I refuse to hang my head. Those boys were hitting so hard. Chris Spencer took Hillenmeyer out! And our D was hitting to kill. We had our mistakes, but in my mind, they weren't awful. I want to kill Olindo Mare, but hey. I take absolutely no shame in that loss. I'm proud of the way our boys played today. Hawthorne and Herring stepped up huge. No shame.

easy cop out with Housh's fumble and Mare's misses. Should not have happened but not the reason we lost...

Seneca Wallace. he is the reason we lost. can't throw fast enough to hit a guy in traffic, can't throw accurately on anything over 10 yards, can't make decisions to get the ball out of bounds instead of throwing right to Lance Briggs inside your own 15... he is terrible. And I don't want to hear how Seneca is like Vick and Mora and Knapp know how to use him. Or, Wallace is capable of using his legs and we'll be okay. Cut his ass tomorrow and sign whoever is on the street to be our backup or give Teel a shot. Wallace is worthless, split him wide but nothing else. He IS NOT A NFL CALIBER QUARTERBACK! He cost us this game today, or maybe Ruskell did for sticking with his sorry butt for all of these years instead of grooming somebody useful.

#1 - Mare is the goat of the week. It's a completely different game if he does his job.

#2 - Seneca is NOT a starting QB. This game shouldn't have been close. If he had only hit the throws he should have made Seahawks win by 7. Had Matt played this game, we win.

#3 Some real questionable, low probability play calls going down the stretch.

Overall a heartbreaking loss. We HAVE to get healthy now, or this season is over before the bye week.

written by Keath, September 27, 2009
No way you blame a kicker when your offense can't score.

The offense failed miserably, the odds are not in your favor when you have to kick field goals 4-5 times a game.

Seneca had more then "one" poor throw/decision!

The running game is made up of one or two good runs and a bunch of less than 3 yard runs.

You guys don't understand football. With a LINE that's worth it's weight, you can have the worst backs in the NFL and still succeed. With a LINE, the kicker is only needed for PATs. With a LINE, every play-call you make has potential. With a LINE, the QB has all the time in the world to make a good decision. With a LINE, anybody could get open with time. You guys aren't pointing the blame in the right direction. Blame the office for not understanding these simple concepts.

Additional point: You could get 8-9 probowl linemen for the price of any of Seattle's hack "talent" position's salaries.

Welcome back to the 80's hawk fans!

Both you and Mora are full of shit. The way to not have a field goal kicker lose a game for you is NOT HAVE HIM ATTEMPT SIX FUCKING FIELD GOALS IN ONE GAME. You know what that means? That means you had SIX FUCKING GOLDEN OPPORTUNITIES FOR TOUCHDOWNS that your ELEVEN OFFENSIVE PLAYERS couldn't convert.

If Mora truly said this in the press conference then FUCK HIM. Calling out one player when there were so many who contributed to the loss is bush league.

While Mare played a part in the loss, we can't put the whole game on him.

Seneca deserves a good portion of the blame. The underhand, cross bodied INT within a rocks throw of the endzone was absolutely horrible and completely unacceptable. Also, throw the damn ball out of bounds! Don't take the 4 yard loss, throw that damn ball into the 4th row. He was also consistently high and off target on his passes. Especially passes in traffic. Same ol story for him though. Guy just can't get the job done.

Play calling needs to be tweaked a bit. I know Knapp wants to run, but we are really trying to force things. Especially on 1st down. And with them blitzing all game long, throw a screen pass! Throw a quick slant! That's what you do against the blitz. We really abandoned the screen today. The 3rd and 1 reverse. What the HELL?

We battled today and it showed the little things win football games. When you don't do them, you lose. Missed throws, missed field goals, funky play calls, and one hell of a bonehead INT cost us this one.

Offense cost the game - no doubt about it. Defense gave us our best chance - There were "some" good things on offense, but a lot of stupid stuff cost us. The Good: Nate Bureleson, J.J., Curry, Forsett. These guys are becoming our bread and butter, and... its not Carlson's fault Seneca sucks ass.

Defense: Despite the score, the Defense played very well. It was the atrocious offensive turnovers that caused horrible field position.

The bad: no brainer... Mare, Housh (despite that nice grab over 2 defenders), Seneca Williams. And....

What really, decisively lost the game for us in the final minutes. Seneca to Carlson. Not heppening, Seneca simply DOES NOT KNOW how to throw to Carlson. Hasselbeck would have no doubt pulled off that last drive, there is no doubt in my mind.

Is it just me, or was Seneca throwing on the run nearly every passing play? Who does he think he is? Tony Romo. Sad.

First of all FUCK! Ok now that's out of my system. I Was dissapointed in Seneca but he did pretty well against an excellent team considering that he gets very few reps and has not had the time to work out his problems in real games the way Hasselback and Dilfer did. Remember how the 2 of them went back and forth before eigher got it together?

How many first & second round picks have we made on the O-line recently? The D-line has had more. The lines are almost half the team! Some of the best OL players we drafted were let go after we trained them only to have successful careers elsware. Remember Maiwee (sp?) as an example?

Frye hurt his groin during the game & had to tape it up and keep playing because his only backup was Sims who was already on the sidelines with an injury. Mora said when asked that he didn't know what they would have done if he couldn't keep going.

Sweet bleeding jesus fucking christ on a broken crutch! I can't believe some of the horseshit you dumbasses are spewing! Did any of you silly fuckers even watch the game?!
26/44 (59.5%) 261 yds, 1 int 1 td...Sounds kinda like an average game from Hass...
"was it me, or was Seneca throwing on the run almost every play" OF COURSE HE WAS THROWING ON THE RUN, YOU DUMB SONOFABITCH, the pass protection today was for shit! "he kept throwing balls high" No shit, sherlock, he was throwing on the run, often across his body. Had it been Matt back there, he simply would have lobbed the ball out of bounds, and the receiver would have had no chance whatever to catch it. Considering how often the poor bastard had to run for his life, he played a damn good game. Did he make a couple spectacularly stupid choices? Yes, but of course, we all know that Matt never makes dumb choices...especially when he's trying to carry the team on his back. The fact of the matter is, Housh, Carlson and Mare all had bad days...they happen...to EVERYONE...it just royally sucks when they all happen in the same game, AND that is the same game when we're out, not only eight starters, but some of the best players on the team. (Hass, Walt, Tru, Tatapu, Hill...aren't those about our five best players?) AND, that game is one in which we are facing a very good opponent. It was a fucking perfect storm. AND DESPITE ALL THAT, WE STILL DAMN NEAR WON THE FUCKER! OUTSTANDING JOB, SEAHAWKS!
For everybody bitching about the reverse: Those plays end up one of two ways...long gains, or what we saw...The Bears just happened to have the perfect defense called on that one...Ya pays your money, and ya takes yer chances...and the dealer dealt himself a blackjack on that hand. Our run defense today was absolutely spectacular! The Bears have a damn good O line, and a damn good RB...We held him to 3.1 yds per carry, with a long of only 11 yds...We gave up a couple long pass plays, but we were playing with scrub CB's...that's not too bad...We fought like lions out there (not the Detroit kind, smartass...the kind with claws and teeth)and againse very long odds, still damn near pulled it off...I know it goes down in the L column, but under the circumstances, they did a damn good job!

Hey Jim Mora: youre quote shows what a prick you are: Mare sucked, but he didnt lose the game: YOU and your buddy Knapp lost the game by becoming ultra-conservative Chuck Knox the instant Seattle was in field goal range!

You have the ball on the other teams 23 yard line with the clock stopped with 40 seconds left in the half and two timeouts. What do you do?! Oh, get conservative and throw a screen to the running back 5 YARDS BEHIND the line of scrimmage--against the Bears, a team known to eat screens for lunch--and THEN, to top it off, you use 13 SECONDS to call timeout! As if that wasnt bad enough, you then run the ball on 3rd and 13. Why not just kick the field goal right then if you arent going to try?!

In the NFL, you play to win--or you lose close games. THis has been proven beyond all doubt by Mike Holmgren, who often lost close games due to his penchant for morphing into Chuck Knox in the fourth quarter of tight games. DId you learn nothing from watching beside Holmy those year?!

7 posessions inside field goal range--and how many touchdowns did your play-calling result in?! Oh yeah--NONE!! So dont tell me your team "fought thier asses off" but the kicker lost the game! YOU and your buddy Knapp lost that game, take responsibility as the head of the team! Would Holmgren EVER have called a player out like that?! NO. But you did.

Im sorry, but Jim Mora, you have no class at all. You Sir, are a behaving like a douchebag. Maybe after we fire you, you can coach Washington--or maybe the Raiders. No one else wants a coach who throws players under the bus, and who doesnt seem capable of preparing his team to execute his pathetic offensive and defensive schemes by week 3.

I thought you were a classy person, and your firing from Atlanta unfair. I for one am thoroughly dissapointed, both in your lack of ability to prepare a football team and in your sad lack of class.

Here is the stat that to me is the reason why we lost the game: S Wallace 1 Rushing Carry for 0 yards. Wallace looked good throwing the ball for most the game. But for him to have any chance throwing the ball, he had to keep the Chicago defense honest with his rushing ability. I can't tell you how many plays I watched and right after the snap Wallace was forced out of the pocket on a scramble. Every time I was hoping he would run the ball for 5 to 10 yards and duck out of bounds. Atleast do it once so it is in the defenses head as a possiblity. Open things up for another inevetable scramble, if the Bears had to watch for the QB run, it would have opened things up for the WR's to get open. One rushing attempt. Thats it. By the end of the game the Bears were playing against Wallace like a regular pocket QB. Take the last play as an example. Instead of forcing a pass that was never going to work, wallace should have held onto the ball and made a play with his legs. Get the first, then worry about completing a pass. Off all the mistakes the coaches made, this stood out to me as the most glaring. Much was made of the coaches ability to adapt to talent. From what I saw on Sunday, they are even worse than Holmy at adapting to the talent they have.

Good: Hawthorne in his first game. JOnes and Forsett. Frye at LT. Unger getting better. Morrah actually looking like a football player. The D-line improving. Curry looking like a star in waiting. Lucas playing well. Babs not getting beaten for 80-yard runs. Julius Jones running hard to convert a key third down, and almost gaining 100 yards.

Bad: The defense giving up a 36 yard slant route to Devin Hester late in the game. Doh! Mora and Knapp. That was the worst clock management I have seen in years to close out the first half! Terrible. Not to mention playcalling that stalled us out every time we hit field goal range. Edgerrin James is washed up. He makes me want Shaun Alexander back--and thats just plain wrong! Rob Sims getting hurt--that one will hurt us. Seneca Wallace's dumb mental mistakes--dude, throw the ball away when youre outside the tackles! Its legal! Redding getting sucked in and falling down on the Bears fourth down TD. Jennings time and time again there to make a play, only to fail due to his scrawnyness. Housh for putting up numbers comparable to recievers that get paid 1/4 what he does and for the STUPID fumble.

ANd last but not least, Nate Burleson's pathetic drop of a key pass. Nice one Nate--thats four drops in two games! Yes, he had a good game and got open a good bit--but you have to make those catches on third down or you dont belong as a starter in this league! 8 years in, and still Nate is a liability on third down.

Wallace didnt play badly considering, and I dont blame Knapp and Mora for throwing the ball 61% of the time. Honestly, this team NEEDS to throw the ball that much, especially with lineman dropping like flies, and all that money (16.5 million this year) tied up in three WR's. The run game only worked in fits and starts, mostly due to the effectiveness of the passing game. When we were completing passes, then the run worked. When we struggled through the air--no runs either.

Its just like 2007, where it took Holmy half the season to figure out that our run game wasnt that good, and that we could win throwing 65-70% of the time. Time to get a clue people! With our team, its pass to set up the run or we're toast!

Julius JOnes gets a nagging injury every game. He cant carry the ball 20 times every game all year long and stay healthy. THATS why we saw James and Forsett. Oh, that and Forsett actually is playing well, so he earned some touches.

The team looked better prepared to play, less confusion on both sides of the ball. Special teams still looks more Special Bus than Special. What else is new?! Still, Seattle doesnt look like a week three NFL football team. And that, people, is the fault of the coaching staff, top to bottom.

Not the kicker who missed two feild goals.

One more good thing: Deion Branch. The guy got open underneath. Just as I have said, the guy gets open when he isnt the number 1 WR. I still think Housh should play Flanker, Nate SE, and Branch the slot. And that we should run more 3 WR sets with a TE and one back. But having Branch back opened up Nate quite a bit, and I really liked what I saw from him. How come Matt cant hit Branch on those low throws?

Personally I want to see more out of the special teams. Not just Mare, missing two under 50 yards is unforgivable, but where were our punt returners today? I know chicago has one of the best ST coverage units but come on. Get a decent kickoff or punt return and help the offense out a bit.

i was pretty pissed yesterday right after the loss at a lot of players and coaches. i think the one thing to look at is seneca and the blame he is getting here. he is a BACKUP! all you can ask out of him is to give your team a chance to win and he definitely did that. as far as always throwing on the run, that i believe is his styrentgh and gve him some openings with receivers. if he ran more it would create that much more, but he isn't a pocket passer. i think he is playing more to his strengths than last year, but just isn't running.
yes you have to score touchdowns and not field goals, but those were chipshots for an nfl kicker that were the difference in the game-we should have won. karma is a bitch for housh-i don't think his "91" rating on madden is deserved and wish he never said that. not producing and then a fumble like that, did he ever talk this much with the bengals?!
