The Seahawks will cut back their roster to 53 players today, per league rules. With any luck, there will be a trade or two involved (Coutu? Branch? Russell? haha). If we can get anything, even a seventh, for Coutu, that's much better than cutting him. I doubt we'll deal Branch, but again, if the value is there it's worth it. Here are some other things we'll find out today:
- Will Marcus Trufant be put on the PUP list? If so, he will not be eligible to play until Week 7.
- Will Walt be IR'd? All signs point to "hell no," but it will feel good to wake up tomorrow with him on the active squad. Remember, Walt cannot be PUP'd because he was originally cleared to play (in his pre-camp Physical).
- Roster spot battles: Taylor/Obamanu vs. everyone and each other; Newton vs. Morrah; Mare vs. Coutu; Wallace vs. Adams; Nick Reed, Michael Bennett and Lance Laury vs. the field. There's probably one or two I'm missing.
- Time to give up: Is the Baraka Atkins experiment over in Seattle? (Yes) Lawrence Jackson? (No) Jordan Kent / Logan Payne et al? (Yes)
- Will the Seahawks sign any players off the scrap heap? We might not find that out until tomorrow, but its worth watching.
I will be gone until about noon today, as per usual (football with brothers), but I'll be all over covering this stuff after that. If anything breaks and we're not on top of it, please mention it in the comments so the other Addicts can read up on it.
