Matt Hasselbeck has a fractured rib, Jim Mora has confirmed it. Other injuries - High ankle sprains for Josh Wilson and Sean Locklear and a sprained MCL for Justin Griffith. Lofa went in but quickly realized he "just couldn't go." As for whether "Walter Jones will play, they will not sacrifice his longterm health for the length of the season because of what happened to Sean."
Will we look for more CB or tackle help? "We'll look at that this afternoon. Every tuesday we bring guys in for workouts just in case, at every position, where if we get ourselves in a pinch we can get those guys in the fold."
Status of Spencer and Mebane? "Spencer will, starting wednesday, practice full. Brandon, we still have to see; he was a gametime decision and just didn't quite have it. He worked today on the field and felt better, so we'll see where he is this week."
On Brandon Frye: "He wasn't noticeable, and [as an offensive lineman] that's the best thing they can say about you."
Frank Gore's runs: "Both simply gap control issues. First one we got washed down up front on a counter scheme, which opened a hole bigger than we'd like and we over ran it (Curry), got up on the safety quick and the safety didn't make a tackle (Babineaux). On the second one they did a zip lock, the end needs to come in forcefully and seal that gap but he didn't (Kerney) and again, the safety has got to make that tackle and he didn't (Babineaux)."
Will Spencer start if healthy? "That's a good question, I don't know. We are going to try to get the five best guys in there to help us win."
Will Branch be back this week? "Yes! He'll be practicing all week, he was very close this week and wanted to play, but we didn't feel he was ready. Why does the running game stink? "We're still learning it; we haven't perfected it. It's a slower start than we had wanted, but I'm not going to give up on it. I still believe in the scheme."
Did Forsett earn himself more touches? "He's a good player, he's fun to watch. He keeps fighting, we've always had confidence in him but when you perform like that you say 'Shoot, let's give that guy some touches.'"

However- this is not 2008 all over again!
Why?
1) Charlie Frye is not a Seahawk. Brandon Frye is.
Seneca will start this week if Hass cannot go. Seneca gives the Hawks a chance to win.
2) Big Walt, Chris Spencer and Mebane all will be back soon. That will boost the team.
3) The injuries are more spread out this year. Last year they attacked positions to the point where guys who were bagging groceries were brought in to start games. Billy McMullen and Keary Colbert were introduced to the 12th man as starters! We are still a few injuries away from that.
4) Been there, done that. If anything last year's injuries have galvanized the players to be able to deal with this in a positive way. Mora and his staff will not give up.
My position of concern this week is CB. Odds are, unless Travis Fisher is ready to go, that we'll need to sign a corner to play. That person will get time in the nickel. You ideally do not want to slide Babs between DB positions. So its best to get Fisher healthy or we're staring Milloy.

Last year the injuries were concentrated on the WR corp, Mostly, but this year they are spread out all over the field and our backups suck. Last year we supposedly had the solid defense with all 11 starters returning and we couldn't buy a 5th win, so I say Go Lions because the Hawks suck this year.

Well, I'm not happy that this concern has come to pass but correct me if I'm wrong. High ankle sprains are pretty much done for the season type injuries. That probably means Locklear and Wilson are gone until next year. How many of you still think that Walt can make it through this year? Until Trufant comes back we're looking at Jennings in his old role as a starting corner with Fisher as the nickle and no backup at this point. That's bad.
I have to admit that when Curry became available, that pretty much made it the mandatory pick and even though the boo birds already are criticizing Ruskell for picking Curry because he didn't just destroy Frisco single handedly (which is an absolute crock), I'm not sure that we wouldn't have been better trading up into the bottom of the first round and grabbing Oher than moving up in the second and picking Unger. Unger's going to be a fine player but do we need a center/guard worse than we need a left tackle? I thought that the Locklear experiement was a real reach back when the club announced it and I still think it was a bad decision to not go out and get a legitimate LT somewhere somehow.
Unlike a lot of you though, I'll admit that Ruskell and company know a lot more than I do about it and probably have legitimate reasons for the way they played it. I'll defer to their judgement because you can't fix all problems or have great backups at every position at your beck and call with only 53 players. I think we're in deep do do right now but it's not over yet.

We won't know much for another week or two, I would imagine, but we can make some judgments based on who the Hawks bring in. Of course, Lock and/or Wilson would be IR'd immediately if surgery ends up being required.

frye, sims, vallos, unger, willis? that's our starting line?!? wow. they did pretty well, and i have to say good job.
forsett definitely earned some more touches. i hope he gets them!
butler deserves some love for the outstanding special teams play. downing at the one foot line was an awesome play.
negative comments:
the injury situation is pretty rediculous! the silver lining is that these players should be back by midseason, but still..
the defense had no swagger whatsoever. hard hits were tough to come by, and we got very little pressure on the qb. i really didn't like the play calling on that side of the ball.
brian billick as a commentator drives me nuts.

Starting defensive tackle. Two starting linebackers. Starting corner. Third corner/nickleback. That's 4-5 on defense.

So, if we don't take Curry, then we'd have three back-up quality LB's starting instead of two back-ups and Curry (a legitimate starter, however raw). Six in one hand, 1/2 dozen in another, IMO.
Even worse...we could have taken Crabtree (who, I admittedly started to like as the draft neared)!
Walt doesn't suddenly need a second surgery, Spencer doesn't hurt himself, and Lock doesn't sprain his ankle and we'd be saying, "Boy sure glad we picked up Curry since Lofa and Hill are out!

Bill Walsh once said you can tell how good a QB is by watching their feet. Watch Tebows feet, worst feet I've ever seen in a potential first round pick maybe out of any QB projected to get drafted, in any round. Do you really want a spread offense system QB with poor footwork, mediorce accuracy, poor touch passes, bad mechanics, snail speed release, and a lefty. And his coach also gave the NFL Alex Smith. His school gave us Rex Grossman, not exactally encouraging.
Denvers pick is better spent on a LT or a QB like Bradord. Ideally we get a LT first, then Snead (my favorite QB) with our pick, and trade up into round 2 to get Jon Dwyer. Let San Fran or Jacksonville waste a pick on Tebow, Ruskell is smart enough to pass on an overhyped Pat White.

Then use our other pick on hopefully a LT, but hell i'd take any lineman at this point, or a QB. NOT Tim Tebow! I like Colt Mccoy and Chris Snead.

Here's the quote from my comment:
"I have to admit that when Curry became available, that pretty much made it the mandatory pick and even though the boo birds already are criticizing Ruskell for picking Curry because he didn't just destroy Frisco single handedly (which is an absolute crock)....."
What part of that didn't you get? I said that we had to draft Curry (as in it was mandatory). I then suggested that instead of drafting Unger at the expense of our third and fourth rounder plus we still had our second rounder at that point, we could have tried to make a deal for Oher who was still available at around number 20 IIRC. He was considered top 10 ten material by some scouts and had fallen quite a bit below where he should have been taken. That would have been a real coup to get Curry and Oher in the same draft. Right now Oher would look pretty good at LT.
I also pointed out that some fans are already bashing Ruskell for drafting Curry because he didn't have a spectatcular game last Sunday for which I said and I quote: "which is an absolute crock".
I just wanted to clarify because it sounded like that you somehow think I said we should have drafted Oher instead of Curry and I said no such thing.

Oh, and BillT, Burelson and Branched had ACL injuries, not high ankle sprains. ACLinjuries are way more severe.

Not sure what to think of all these injuries, nor am I sure what to think of Da Bearsh...I still think we can win this game, and after seeing Indy tonight, they don't look like world beaters either...I'm not giving up, but I AM begging for Berry and an LT in the 1st...I'm still thinking we should give Teel at least another year, before throwing an early round pick on a QB...And for the love of GOD, FORGET Tebow!

Your first paragraph is a scathing "I told you so!" and that was what I was reacting to. You pulled back a bit in the next couple of paragraphs, but I couldn't let the first paragraph go. You've done a much better job in your next post to explain yourself and I understand your point much better....don't agree cause I love the Unger pick, but I understand.

Anyways, am I the only person here that thinks Forsett should get a start just once? Lets be honest, Holmy is a master of offense and if he benched JJ, then I assume there was a reason. Even Bill Parc benched him! Get the point he is not good. Average at best. my 2 cent.

Billt--Oher is playing well, yes--but not at LT. LT is a whole other ballgame. And while hindsight says it might have been a good idea to get Oher by trading our second, we wouldnt have Denver's first rounder coming up if we had done that. And at the time, RG was a bigger need than LT. Or are you comfortable with Wrotto at RG? I know Im not, and thats even considering the fact that Unger had a horrible game against the Niners.
