After months of hearing people talk about TJ Houshmandzadeh, I consistently made the argument that they were making a mountain out of a molehill. Sure, he talks a bit of trash, but that's just "swagger," that's healthy for the team. Yeah, I want my stud wide-out to predict a pro-bowl, a playoff run, top five numbers. I like that, it's good for the team and its fun for the fans. Sure, he could've kept his mouth shut about the Madden rating, but come on, that was blown way out of proportions.
I'm starting to change my tune.
I had never been a proponent of the Hawks bringing Houshmandzadeh in, but when he was in Seattle and nearly signing I got star struck and decided it was a great thing. I still think it may be a good thing, but Mr. "Trust Me, I'm Underrated" needs to keep his damn mouth shut when it comes to talking about in-game performance and his team. Last Wednesday, Housh claimed he would be open 95% of the time against the Bears secondary, and I sort of chuckled it off like, no big deal. And really, it wasn't a big deal, except that on Sunday, he was all but shut down. How did he respond to getting embarassed by the Bears?
"I was open all game. They just didn't throw me the ball."
Really? Or maybe you thought you were open but it wasn't worth the risk of making a mistake because the QBs don't trust you yet? Maybe it takes time for chemistry to click and talking like that isn't going to anything to help? Seneca Wallace even said in the post-game presser that he was trying to get the ball to Houshmandzadeh. You shouldn't have to try to find one guy, that's when you make mistakes. If he is open he should get the ball, if he's not, he should not, but it shouldn't be a wild goose chase to find a 6'3" receiver in an electric lime jersey. That kinda sticks out like a sore thumb.
And then there was the issue with what Housh said the other day about Matt, essentially questioning his quarterback's toughness. There are a hundred angles to take on this, but they pretty much all lead to the same thing: STOP TALKING.
It's tempting to tell Housh to "Put up or shut up," but I think it might be time to go one step further.
Shut up. Then play. If you don't like how the game is going, play better. But really, please, shut up.

Now, Housh just sounds like a petulant, clueless WR diva that we have seen on lots of other teams in the NFL. His comments show that he is thinking about himself and not the team. Perhaps he is kicking himself for signing with the Hawks instead of the vikings, and this is his way of expressing it. Regardless, he needs to shut his mouth. He is extremely well-paid to make plays for the Hawks, not talk out his ass. So shut up TJ, call out yourself for your terrible game, not your teammates. Nice fumble yesterday btw.

I wonder what he's like during practice?
Is there a link as to what he said about Matt?

Maybe the Bears knew that he would drop 4 (or was it more?) passes and fumble one so they left him open as a good player for THEIR team. Maybe they hired him afterall...

Having said that, he is yet to live up to hype in my mind. Is one play enough to forgive? NO. Its enough to say, maybe if he'd show that kind of determination everytime the ball came his way, he'd get more looks. But it looks to me that everyweek he is a little more complacent when he gets the ball. Instead of just going out and proving that he is what we thought he was.

Housh took responsibility for the fumble and the fact that it most likely cost us the game. While that doesn't give us the win, or the ball back its good to see someone act accountable for their actions.
We'll see about the whole "i was open the whole game" thing. Was it just an emotional reaction or a real issue? We will see. TJ was known as the epitome of a team player while in Cincy so I doubt he changes into TO with a move to the west coast. But we will see.

I was supporting the guy until recently. I hope he will be more careful about what comes out of his mouth.
There's nothing to gain in criticizing your teammates, so why do it?
On his behalf, he did admit that he may have cost his team the game with his fumble. That comment deserves equal time with all of his others that make many of us angry.

. Get in the playoffs thats all that matters. Once you are in the playoffs everyone is 0-0. You can not tell me that you watched that game yesterday playing with mostly backups and did not feel that when healthy we can beat anyone. Oh and I love Mora's attitude about injuries. "I don't see starters and backups I see football players give me 45 football players and we will show up at 1:05 on Sunday ready to play. If you listen to the players they are buying into that attitude which showed yesterday. Player after player stated how they really felt Mora believed in them. It is also more then talk because players got fairly equal snaps in training camp according to the palyers and they said they noticed that and that it adds creadence to Mora's words. They want to win for him and will bounce back he is a passionate coach and expects passion from his team. And most coach's woudn't simply say it is unacceptable they would fire him and find a new kicker. Most NFL teams will not hesitate to fire a kicker after one bad game. It hasnt happened recently but has happened many time in the past. Mora has appolagized for overreacting but you cannot tell me that when he said it you did not agree with him at least a little bit. Heck even Mara appologized to Seneca for putting him in the position to have to drive down the field for the game winning touchdown that didn't happen. I agree that this is a a team game. But he has one job to do that it make kicks in the NFL kickers are EXPECTED to make those kicks. Gould missed one too but that was a very long range kick Mare's were chip shots by NFL standards. I am not throwing Mare under the bus I think he is a hell of a kicker but those are the facts and we all know it. "He is expected to make those period no excuses no exceptions" However Mora will show his faith in his kicker which he did Sunday by giving him another kick after the 2 misses. Well thank heaven for you guys I have to go. Karate class to teach. Have FAITH and PATIENCE.
