A day late, but I suppose its still better than never, right?

DEFENSE:
Gameball: This is the easiest one so far this year. David Hawthorne put together the best game any Seahawk has thus far this year on either side of the ball. 16 tackles, 1 interception and a forced fumble that was overturned despite almost no evidence suggesting it ought to be. Had the Seahawks won, Hawthorne would almost certainly be NFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Goat: Deon Grant. I don't know that it was totally his fault, but on consecutive plays Grant bumped into Travis Fisher and took them both out of the play. Those two plays? The touchdown to Hester and the subsequent 2 point conversion. Grant played a good game overall, but the touchdown was a very costly mistake. It may have been Fisher's fault, but Grant took credit for it.

OFFENSE:
Gameball: Nate Burleson. Burly put together a great game with 9 catches for 109 yards. He was consistently open and proved himself a reliable target for not-quite-at-ease Seneca Wallace.
Goat: Seneca Wallace. While I am actually quite pleased with how Seneca played -- I think we all agree that you can't rely on your backup QB to put the team on his back and win, which is nearly what Wallace did anyway -- he made a number of very costly mistakes, and missed a lot of wide open players both on errant throws and on non-throws. He also needs to remember to throw the ball away, there were a few times where he took a loss of three by running out of bounds rather than tossing it. Nothing huge, and this isn't really a knock against Sen, but any two of the 10 plays he missed may have been the difference.

SPECIAL TEAMS:
Gameball: Ben Obamanu. What a great run back he had, that 45-yarder. Ben isn't going to show up too much in the games, but if he can prove an elusive return threat he's going to really prove that he deserves the roster spot he earned in the preseason.
Goat: Kickoff Coverage. Whaaaat? Okay, okay, it's really probably Olindo Mare, but hasn't he been dragged through the mud enough the last two days? Mare has been absolutely phenomenal on kickoffs, and we need him to be, as shown on the first kickoff of the game when Johnny Knox returned it from 9 yards deep into Seahawk territory. The person who saved the touchdown? Mare. He was flagged on a phantom facemask call (though Knox did grasp his facemask, for what its worth), adding 15 yards, but that was a bad call and a nice job taking the right angle by Mare. Unfortunately, it also exposed how bad our kickoff coverage team is, and precisely why we need Mare rather than Coutu as our kicker.

COACHING:
Gameball: Zerrick Rollins. Can't say enough about the guy. Rollins has been working hard with Aaron Curry and Curry has gotten better every week. Beyond that though, Coach Z got David Hawthorne and Will Herring ready to play for their second and first starts (respectively). Both were a force, especially the Heater.
Goat: Tie - Jim Mora & Greg Knapp. Mora gets it for the absolutely pointless touchdown review at the beginning of the third quarter. There was no way that sucker was going back, and in a very close game you have to conserve your timeouts. Knapp gets it for a number of silly play calls (though most of the game was very well executed). The big one was that ridiculous reverse to Branch (Branch!) on 3rd and 1 that ended a promising drive.

To me it looked like Seneca was out to prove something to Holmgren (mainly that he had progressed as a pocket QB). In my opinion that took away some of the specail talants that Wallace has.
I' don't think he'll ever be a true starter and I hope that they start using him in other ways. This guy has talents and we need them on the field as much as possible to make a more open offence

Dude, come on. Seneca was bad, but the goat of the offense was Houshmandzadeh. Talking smack all week then backing it up with... 4 catches and a retarded fumble in our own territory?

Goat: Those hideous green jerseys, you mentioned Knox having good returns right? well how easy is it to see those BRIGHT GREEN jerseys coming down the field? its like a lit up runway directing you up the field....

Dude, Wallace played well, excepting the stupid pick and the non-throwaways. Offensive Goat should have gone to Carlson. Carlson played like a lunkhead, never once able to turn and track the ball unless is was perfectly timed. The Bears defense almost never allowed Seneca the time to throw on a five-step drop, so he was throwing on three. Yet, Carlson NEVER seemed to figure it out. The guy looked like Ferrell Edmunds out there! We should expect more from such a talented player. Get your head in the game, and turn your head after three steps JOhn! Carlsons poor route running cost us 4 completions where Wallace put the ball right on target a little early. ALso, the offensive line was mediocre in the run game, and utterly awful in pass pro. In my mind, the line was also the goat.

And Mora and Knapp's calls were awful. The clock management and playcalling at the end of the first half was the WORST I have seen since the infamous Holmgren/Hass disaster several years ago. Most of the blame for the variety of blown scheme calls, mistakes, and failures in general are due to them. They deserve a special game ball for Goat of the Month allready, and its only been two games vs. good teams.

On defense, the fourth-down TD given up by Redding was pathetic. The guy allowed himself to get sucked in--despite the fact that a DB was coming from his outside shoulder on a blitz--and fell down, allowing the TD. Redding tried to be the hero-Julian Peterson style--instead of doing his job. All Redding had to do was hold his ground and block that TE, and not allow the guy an easy release. Instead, he utterly bungled his assignment. Result: TD. Redding deserves Goat Honorable Mention as well as Grant.

how about a game ball to Julius Jones? I think he had a better game than Burleson, those screens were a thing of beauty and if we kept pounding the rock I think we could have come away with a win.

on that touchdown at the end of the game, I think it actually gave us a chance to win them scoring so early. Even if grant makes that tackle they still had a first down if I remember right, and they can just run out more clock to kick the game winning field goal.

This way at least we had a chance to win, I just wish we would have been more aggressive with the play calling on those last two plays, maybe take a shot a little farther down the field then just 2 yards.
Kickers
written by Brodie, September 29, 2009
Even though it is normally considered excessive to carry two kickers on a roster, I don't think it would be for the Seahawks. Between Mare's oustanding kickoffs and Coutu's accuracy the Seahawks could have the most dominant kicker in the NFL (and be 2-1). Am I crazy or should the Hawks cut somebody to make room for Coutu? Do we really need two fullbacks? Does Cameron Morrah really have any business on an NFL team at this point in his career? There has to be someplace on the roster that can go. Morrah isn't going to win the Seahawks any games, Coutu might.

Brodie it is more than just having two kickers you have to use one of your 45 active player slots. Not happening man..sorry!!!
Sullivan is nuts

Really? You did have enough brains to name Seneca the offensive "Goat" of the game, but then stated that you were overall pretty happy with how he played....hmmm. He played awful! How can you be remotely happy with him missing open targets high and long, throwing side-armed no look interceptions inside our own 15 yard line, and in general completing about 55% of his passes. ESPN and NFL.com are saying just how terrible he was, and I think they have it right, which is why the get paid to evaluate sports.
This coming after your ingenious post the other day about how Housh stinks. C'mon dude.

Blueandgreen,
Did you not watch the game? Seneca was running for his life on EVERY pass play...he didn't get a chance to set for ANY of his throws, at least as far as I can recall...to be getting pressured THAT much and complete 60% of your passes, DESPITE 4 drops by the receivers...(had they been caught, he would've had a 70% completion rate)Matt wouldn't have done any better in the face of that much pressure...the only difference would have been that Matt threw more out of bounds...(and being Matt, he probably would have had a stupid int in there somewhere, just trying to make something happen...sorta like Seneca did) Do I think Seneca's as good as Matt? Of course not, but all things considered, he played pretty damn well for someone running for his life...

Which is precisely why I explained why multiple people on the 45 man roster are expendable (less valuable to the team than Coutu). Read the rest of the post dude.
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
written by LouieLouie, September 30, 2009
The Good: The 49ers lost so we're only one game down.
The Bad: We're 1 and 2.
The Ugly: Hey coach Dumb-Ass. You should appologize publicly for singling out Mare. He didn't loose the game himself. There was plenty of blame to go around. You came out of that interview looking immature and sophomoric.
