Mike Florio asks whether Deion Branch may be forced to restructure his contract (aka, take a fat pay cut), an interesting possibility that not too many others have been talking about lately (though, some handsome fella' put the odds of a restructure at 50% back in February).

Branch certainly hears the talks that he may be cut or traded. He likely knows that he wouldn't command near $5 million on the open market, especially once the 53-man squads are set. If he wants to stay in Seattle, he may well be willing to take a 25-50% pay cut, potentially more with some incentive clauses thrown in (50 catches = $1MM bonus or some such).

Florio suggests that the number of WRs kept (5-7) will likely play a role in the pressure they put on Branch, but in reality that makes little sense. Who restructures a deal after the guy has already made the 53? That's some good old fashioned Florio-talk if ya ask me...

Green Bay seems to have an overabundance of skilled O-linemen. I say send Branch there in exchange for two or three.

This is getting tiresome. Branch will not get cut or traded. We don't have salary cap problems, so he won't be asked to take a pay cut....this year. He's a solid receiver (when healthy) and last year's injuries to the WR core are still in the back of everyone's mind, so I don't think Ruskell will want to get rid of him and risk moving down the same path. Is any of this speculation backed up by any insiders? Or is this just people (Branch-haters) guessing...aka, a lot of blog talk? I haven't read anything saying it's based on anything more than speculation.
