When have we heard this before?

Deion Branch will be a game-time decision for Sunday's Week One matchup against the Rams, tallying up roughly the 87th injury the receiver has suffered since coming to Seattle from New England in 2006.

If Branch hadn't shown the flashes of brilliance he had in times like the last two games of 2008 (an otherwise dismal and depressing year for Seattle sports in general), my guess is that by now, he would be nothing but dead weight amongst such a talented corps of receivers. He wasn't the Super Bowl MVP once for doing nothing, after all. Then again, Tom Brady could make Keary Colbert look good.

But what happens now if Branch can't go on Sunday, and TJ Houshmandzahdeh, Nate Burleson, Deon Butler, Ben Obomanu and John Carlson end up being all the depth this team needs downfield? Mike Sando presents a logical case for keeping Branch on the roster here, however, and let's be realistic for a second -- we are only going into Week One.Things are going to take a while to gel with Greg Knapp's new system in place, and Branch isn't the only one coming off an injury.

None the less, when all is said and done, I hope the team doesn't kick themselves midway through the season for cutting Courtney Taylor.
