Bold Prediction Contest  E-mail

Hey Seahawk Addicts.

At the end of my recent "Origin Of The 12th Man" article, I said I was going to come up with another list of 10 bold predictions for Sunday's game at Candlestick against the 49er's. I also said that you Addicts were going to get an opportunity to participate. So here's what I had in mind. Each Friday, I'll publish a list of 10 "Bold Predictions" like total number of sacks, number of rushing and passing yards, quarterback rating, etc and give you my prediction for each item on the list. Then, you guys can add a comment where you'll give your 10 best answers for those predictions too and we'll have a contest see who comes closest each week with a prize going to the season winner.

Here's a tentative list of 10 predictions I came up with. If you think there's a better prediction to use each week than some of these, please let me know through a comment and I'll choose the 10 best predictions and put them out each Friday so everyone can make their predictions. Here's my initial list of 10 predictions:

1) Number of team sacks.

2) Total rushing yards.

3) Total passing yards.

4) Who will get the most tackles.

5) Who will get the most receptions.

6) Seahawk's starting quarterback's rating.

7) Who will have the most sacks.

8) What will be the takeaway/giveaway quotient for the day (expressed as a plus or minus number like +1 if they made one more takeaway than they gave away). For example, if they recovered two fumbles from the opponent (+2), plus made an interception (+1), but fumbled twice and lost both (-2) that would equal (add +2, +1, -2) a total of +1. This prediction is for the upcoming game only not the running total the NFL keeps for the season.

9) Number of sacks given up.

10) Total defensive yards allowed.

If you have suggestions for an alternate prediction to replace one of these like final score or interceptions (either made by us or given to them) for example, don't hesitate to let me know and I'll consider them. I want to get the best 10 predictions out there for everyone to guess at each week. I didn't do final score even though it's an obvious choice because there are scoring contests out there that do that and I thought we could zero in on performance measurements but if you guys want to do final score or whatever, let me know.

I'll put out a template each Friday in the weekly contest post so you can copy it into your comment and fill in the blanks something like this:

Team Sacks -
Rushing Yards -
Passing Yards -
Most Tackles -
Most Receptions -
QB rating -
Most Sacks -
Takeaway/Giveaway -
Sacks Allowed -
Defensive Yards Allowed -

You can then paste it into your comment and fill in the numbers like this:

Team Sacks - 4
Rushing Yards - 122
Passing Yards - 243
Most Tackles - Tatupu
Most Receptions - Housh
QB rating - 97.4
Most Sacks - Tapp
Takeaway/Giveaway - +2
Sacks Allowed - 2
Defensive Yards Allowed - 288

That's it and we'll go back after the game on Monday and figure out who had the closest answers overall. You can post your comments right up to game time and if you want to change a prediction, just post another comment and clearly state which one you want to change and I'll pick it up. Your initial comment or changes has to be posted with your predictions prior to kickoff.

If you hit the answer dead on, you get that one right no matter how many get the right prediction. If no one hits it, the closest one to it gets a hit on that question and only one person will get that one right for that week unless there's a tie. I'll decide who gets hits for closest answers when no one gets it exactly right. Most weekly points will probably be points awarded for closest answer since most of these will be difficult to hit dead on every week. We'll count everyone's total hits for the week and record the results. I'm going to try and get Seahawk Addicts to sponsor a prize for the person who wins for the season but if they don't come up with something, I'll donate something so the winner will get a prize. It won't be a cheap trinket either but something worth playing for. After discussing it with Chris (who knows nothing about it yet), I'll let you guys know what you're playing for. Don't wait for the announcement of the prize though or you'll get behind in the contest. Trust me, it'll be good.

Think about it Addicts and post your ideas for alternate predictions if you don't like the ones I came up with. We'll keep a running count of everyone's correct predictions from week to week and the winner will be the one who correctly answered the most predictions over the season. We might throw in a bonus prediction from time to time and award double or triple points for getting it right to give everyone a chance to do some catching up if you guys like that idea.

I'll be reading your comments on this proposal until Thursday night (tonight) and then Friday, I'll post the first list of predictions for the San Francisco game and get everyone's best predictions before game time Sunday. Let me know if you're thinking of participating. If no one wants to play, I can just drop the idea and post my own predictions each week like I did last week but I think it would be much more fun for you Addicts to get in on it too. Don't you? Remember, there's a prize involved.

Hasta,

BillT

Really like the idea BillT.
My only suggestion for a predictor would be something about TD's or points scored. That's the ultimate aim of the game. smilies/cheesy.gif

How about:
* Number of opponent's false start penalties. (Home games only). Go #12!
False Start Penalties
written by LouieLouie, September 17, 2009
That would have to be offset by number of false start penalties for the Hawks on the road. That would also be a good gauge of how effective #12 is. So the category would be:
* Number of false start penalties for visiting team.

WOW! Hey guys. I'm blown away. As Marco Polo figured out, this was supposed to be the post to determine the format and make any changes to the list of predictions. The contest was supposed to get under way tomorrow (Friday). With this kind of response though, I guess I'll just go ahead and keep my original list of questions and record the responses from here. I did like the "opponent false start penalities" as a suggestion and would have probably replaced one of the predictions with that one but I guess we'll just have to keep that one in hand as a bonus question and maybe we'll make it a regular prediction next year. Tomorrow, I'll still be coming out with the contest as advertized so you guys who read this post correctly will be able to make your predictions then. Thanks all.
Only one prediction or comment
written by RBeau1954, September 17, 2009
In my opinion this will turn out to be THE biggest game of the year. It will set the tone for the rest of the year. It will either establish us as a dominate force in this division and conference or it will be our down fall. Taking it to the 9ers in there home turf will show the rest of the NFL that we can win on the road but will give us a 2 game advantage over SF and put us on the map. The rest of the predictions do not mean a thing without a win. We will look back on this game and know that it will set the tone for the rest of the year. We either have it or we don't. We beat the Lambs, big deal, we showed some good stuff against a bad team, now are playing with bigger fish. This is a big test for us and if we can dominate, we will make it big the rest of the year and will be a force to be recond with. Remember this post and we can look back on it in week 17 and see.

Just so I'm clear and to avoid later confusion....this is all in regard to the Seahawks and does not include the opponent, right? For example, Most Receptions means The Seahawk with Most Receptions or Most Sacks means The Seahawk with the Most Sacks. It's clear to me, but I'd hate to have someone pick an opposing player and be technically correct.
