Welcome to the first weekly "Bold Prediction" contest at Seahawk Addicts with Seattle playing at San Francisco. To play please copy the template listed below to a comment and fill in each prediction with your best guess. Results will be tallied and posted by Seahawk Addicts userid so don't change your userid from week to week so we know who you are and to insure your results get tallied to the same person each week.
A lot of Addicts mistook the contest announcement yesterday as the actual start of the contest which it wasn't supposed to be if you read the announcement carefully. Only Marco Polo seemed to understand that this is the actual start of the contest today. However, since the response was overwhelming and I got 25 entries from yesterday, I went ahead and entered those predictions in the spreadsheet. For those of you who waited until the contest officially starts today, now's the time to get your predictions in and make sure you're accounted for. Because so many people jumped the gun, we're going to have to live with the 10 predictions I came up with since it would be a nightmare to change 25 predictions already made by those who didn't wait and I'm not sure everyone who already posted would get the message anyway and re-post their predictions. We're going to have to live with it the way it is. I'm going to be adding some bonus predictions some weeks and I'll use some of your your suggestions for alternate predictions for those.
If you made predictions yesterday, there's no need to make them again today unless you're making changes. I caught all of those. However, I won't be checking yesterday's announcement for additional comments anymore so if you do want to make any changes or enter the contest, post them to this article not yesterdays. Once again, I'm not going to take any more information from yesterday's contest announcement. You need to make a comment here in this post for it to get noticed. "Turn on the AC" is the last userid I accepted a response from in yesterday's post then I made a comment there stating that I would no longer accept responses from that article.
Once you've entered the contest by virtue of entering a set of predictions, I'll expect to find a set of predictions for you each week. You can miss a week or two but if I have a contestant who misses three weeks in a row without a response, I'll remove that person from the spreadsheet as no longer playing and that person will not be able to re-enter the contest because it would be pointless as far behind other players as you would be at that point in time. This isn't a contest you can enter in mid-season and have any expectation of winning because other users will be too far ahead of you in points to be able for you to make it up. Therefore, after the bye week, I won't accept any more new contestants. If you want to play, get your first set of predictions in within the next 5 games. If you want to have the best chance at winning, you should get started now.
I will take your predictions (up to two weeks worth) the week before you leave on vacation or if you won't be able to make them for a particular week or two for some reason. You need to post an extra set of predictions to the week's Bold Prediction Contest preceeding the week(s) when you'll be gone in addition to your prediction for that week and clearly label it for the following week's game(s) also mentioning the opponent. You can do that in one comment if you make it clear which is the current predictions and which is the following week's predictions. You can contact me through my e-mail address listed on the blog to make any other arrangements for special circumstances.
A few Addicts still don't seem get the takeaway/giveaway prediction format and are giving me the number of takeaways as well as the number of giveaways. This needs to be expressed as a plus or negative number or zero if they are equal. Each takeaway counts +1 and each giveaway counts as -1 and you just add them up and come up with a negative or positive number or zero if they're equal. Once again as an example: If the Seahawks make two interceptions that would be a +2. If they recovered an opponents fumble that would be a +1. If they lost a fumble to their opponent that's -1 and if they threw three interceptions that's -3. For the takeaway/giveaway answer based on this example you add those all up. 2 + 1 - 1 - 3 equals negative 1 expressed as "-1" which is what you would enter in the takeaway/giveaway prediction. Don't enter 3 takeaways and 4 giveaways as some of you have done. I don't want to have to do calculations here for you. You guys do the math and just give me the final number. Zero means an equal number of takeaways and giveaways or none at all made by either side. These users didn't give the answer as a single number yesterday when they made their predictions: USAFANARC, #11, yoda69, Hawk_DE, and Turn on the AC. I did the calculations for you guys this week but in the future please just give me a single number instead of the number of takeaways and the number of giveaways or entering "even" to mean zero. If you do not enter a single number, I will leave that prediction blank and you will not get credit for your answer on that prediction.
Here's an expanded definition of the 10 predictions you'll be asked to make.
1) Number of team sacks. (How many sacks the Seahawks will get as a team).
2) Total rushing yards for the Seahawks.
3) Total passing yards for the Seahawks.
4) Who will get the most tackles for the Seahawks? (Solo tackles not including assists).
5) Who will get the most receptions for the Seahawks?
6) Seahawk's starting quarterback's rating. (One decimal place).
7) Who will have the most sacks for the Seahawks?
8) Takeaway/giveaway quotient for the day expressed as a plus or minus number or zero (+1, -2, 0, etc). For example, two recovered opponent fumbles counts +2, an interception counts +1, two lost fumbles counts -2. For that example adding 2 + 1 - 2 gives a total of +1 to be entered. This entry should be a single number.
9) Total number of sacks given up by the Seahawks.
10) Total yards allowed by Seattle's defense.
Here's the template you can copy to your comment and then fill in your answers. You may make a comment with your predictions right up to kickoff when any additional comments will be disqualified as a contest entry. You can change your predictions by filling in a new comment and I will record your last comment's predictions as your entry for the week as long as it's posted before game time.
