Welcome to the second week of the "Bold Prediction" contest at Seahawk Addicts with Chicago playing at Seattle. To play, please follow the new directions that follow. Results will be tallied and posted by Seahawk Addicts user id, so please don't change your user id from week to week so we can insure your results get credited to the right person. The winner at the end of the season will receive a Seahawk's Jersey from Seahawk Addicts.
Due to the large volume of contestants who responded, I'm setting a new procedure in place that you need to follow when entering your predictions to help with the data entry on my part. Failure to follow the new directions explicitly will result in your entry being disqualified for the week. I will post the user ids who get disqualified plus any errors I happen to find while inputting the data in Saturday's error report each week. If you just have a single invalid entry like, for example, the giveaway/takeaway quotient, just that prediction will be disqualified and need to be fixed.
If I happen to notice any problems with your entry as I input the data, I'll list it on Saturday's error report and you can make changes. Any errors I do find are not necessarily the result of me searching for errors but are incidental as I input the data. Those I notice will be listed. You are ultimately responsible for entering the data correctly as well as for the accuracy of your entries.
Another change to the contest is that all entries or changes must be posted by midnight Saturday night. The blog software doesn't time stamp comments so we can't tell what time they were generated, only on what day. As long as your comment was generated on Friday or Saturday, it will be accepted. Any comment listed as being made Sunday is disqualified.
Now, here's the new procedure.
Please follow these directions. The format for each entry is in parenthesis after the dash. There is a bonus prediction for this week only making 11 in all. The bonus will be worth two points for those who get it right or the person who comes closest if no one gets it dead on.
The entries are (in this order):
Team Sacks - (number)
Rushing Yards - (number)
Passing Yards - (number)
Most Tackles - (last name)
Most Receptions - (last name)
QB Rating - (one decimal place - decimal not required)
Most Sacks - (last name)
Takeaway/Giveaway - (number with + or - sign or 0)
Sacks Allowed - (number)
Defensive Yards Allowed - (number)
Bonus Prediction - Number Of Bear False Starts - (number)
List your answers in the same order on 11 consecutive lines. Please follow the format for each prediction and don't embellish your answers or add anything.
Here's what it should look like:
3
126
267
Tatupu
Housh
101.9
Redding
+3
2
289
5
That's it, sports fans. Simple change. This way I can copy your predictions directly into my spreadsheet as a group and it makes one entry instead of 11 for each contestant. That's a big help, trust me. That gives me 70 entries to make instead of 770. If you don't get your answers in the right order and in the correct format, they won't align correctly in the spreadsheet and be a valid entry for that prediction (like the takeaway/giveaway needing to be a positive or negative number with a +/- sign or zero for example). If I find your answers in any other format or if I happen to notice they are out of order, I will put you on the list of people with invalid entries that publishes on Saturdays and it will be up to you to correct them before Saturday night at midnight.
Sorry about being so rigid, but with so many entries to process every week I need you guys to shoulder the responsibility of entering the data in a format that can be quickly recorded on my end. Running this contest is going to eat up a lot of my time already and I don't have enough extra time to verify everyone's data. I will publish the list of invalid entries on Saturday morning so that you guys can have plenty of time to correct them and get corrected entries submitted before the midnight deadline Saturday night.
Once you've entered the contest, I'll expect to find a set of predictions for you each week. You can miss a week or two, but if a contestant misses more than two weeks in a row without a response then that person will be removed from the spreadsheet and will not be able to re-enter the contest. The deadline for starting play is the bye week after the game against the Colts.
You can make up to two weeks of predictions ahead of time to allow for vacations and other circumstances that arise. On the Friday before you leave, make a comment that contains your regular predictions for that week and add the set(s) of predictions for the week(s) that you'll be gone. Clearly label the sets by opponent for identification. I'll input them for the current week and the week or two that follows. You can contact me through my e-mail address listed on the blog to make any other arrangements for special circumstances that may arise.
Here's expanded definitions for the 11 predictions:
1) Number of team sacks. (How many sacks the Seahawks will get as a team).
2) Total rushing yards for the Seahawks.
3) Total passing yards for the Seahawks.
4) Who will get the most tackles for the Seahawks?
5) Who will get the most receptions for the Seahawks?
6) QB rating for the Seahawks' starting quarterback. (One decimal place).
7) Who will have the most sacks for the Seahawks?
8) Takeaway/giveaway total for the day expressed as a plus or minus number or zero (+1, -2, 0, etc). For example, let's say the tally for the game is two recovered opponent fumbles (which would count as a +2), an interception (+1), and two lost fumble ( -2). To get the total for this, we just add all the numbers together. 2 + 1 - 2 would give us a total of +1 for the game. This entry should be a single number -- I don't want the individual takeaway and giveaway numbers, just the overall total.
*** See additional information below on takeaway/giveaway if this isn't clear.
9) Total number of sacks given up by the Seahawks.
10) Total yards allowed by Seattle's defense.
11) Total false start penalties called against the Bears.
My predictions for the game.
Team Sacks - 3
Rushing Yards - 127
Passing Yards - 263
Most Tackles - Curry
Most Receptions - Housh
QB rating - 100.4
Most Sacks - Jackson
Takeaway/Giveaway - +1
Sacks Allowed - 1
Defensive Yards Allowed - 295
Number Of Bear False Starts - 4
That's it, Addicts. Post your predictions and we'll count up the results Monday and post everyone's points and the leader board. Good luck!
Go Hawks and roast the Bears!
I hear roast bear tastes a lot like pork.
Hasta,
Bill T.
*** Additional information on takeaway/giveaway.
The takeaway/giveaway entry needs to be expressed as either a plus or negative number or a zero if the takeaways and giveaways cancel each other out (i.e. a +2 for takeaways and a -2 for giveaways would equal 0 for the game). Each takeaway counts +1 and each giveaway counts as -1, so you just have to add them up to come up with a negative or positive number (or zero if they're equal). Once again as an example, if the Seahawks make two interceptions that would be +2. If they recovered an opponent's fumble that would be +1. If they lost a fumble to their opponent that's -1 and if they threw three interceptions that's -3. For the takeaway/giveaway answer based on this example you add those all up. 2 + 1 - 1 - 3 equals negative 1 which is expressed as "-1" which is what you would enter in the takeaway/giveaway prediction. Don't enter it as "3 takeaways and 4 giveaways" as some of you have done. I don't want to have to do calculations here. You guys do the math and just give me the number. Zero means either an equal number of takeaways and giveaways or that none at all were made by either side.
