Hi there Addicts. The Seahawks went 4 - 0 in the pre-season for the first time in franchise history. That's good right? Of course one only has to remember that Detroit did the same last season and that fourth pre-season win was the last they saw all season, to know the answer to that question. It doesn't amount to a hill of beans. A week from Sunday is when we'll begin to know the truth of it all. Is this Seahawks team that good? Can they do what they've been doing in pre-season against the opponents first string for the whole game? Answers to come in about 8 days now.

One thing that has me all jacked up is to hear Gus Bradley and Jim Mora tell us that what they've been running on offense and defense so far in the pre-season is just plain vanilla stuff. That plain vanilla stuff has looked pretty good so far for the most part. The couple of times they did run a blitz last night, they overwhelmed the Raider offense and I saw blue jerseys coming at the quarterback from all directions. If they can really turn it up a notch or two from what they've done the last 4 weeks, I think this could be a team to tgo places this season.

Seattle's second string defense continued to impress. Neither Bennett nor Reed will likely pass through waivers to make it to the practice squad so I think the Seahawks have to find a way to keep both of them on the active roster. One way to do that is go to with only 6 linebackers and give Laury or Herring the release. Reed could actrually play linebacker in a pinch I think. Another thing they can do if Trufant is going to stay on the PUP list is to go with just three corners and use Babs as the 4th corner as well as backup a safety. That will give you the full compliment of defensive backfield players when Trufant returns. To continue reading this article, press the Read more... link below.

Obomanu finally had his day in the sun making a couple of catches including a dandy TD catch on a great throw by Teel to go with solid special teams play. He might have jumped in front of Courtney Taylor for the 5th receiver spot with his play against Oakland. Given that the Seahawks will be judging from all the pre-season games as well as practice, Taylor might still have the upper hand. I think the Seahawks will also try and find a way to keep both Taylor and Obomanu on the roster if they can. By going with 6 linebackers and 3 corners and with Trufant on the PUP list, that would be possible. By any account, the Seahawks have some tough choices to make and it's very likely that some Seahawk castoffs will be playing for other teams this season. Jordan Kent pretty much removed himself from consideration with his two drops last night. If he had caught either one, it would have been a good catch as both were difficult catches to make but that's what he needed to show he could do. Maybe his injury can be trumped up to be serious enough to place him on IR for the season and the Seahawks could retain his rights for another year of development.

I thought Teel looked very good last night for a rookie playing in his first extended action in the NFL. He got in a couple of tight spots and worked himself out of them and pretty kept his poise throughout. That was what was advertised when he was drafted and I thought he delivered. He's definitely got a good arm, nice presence in the pocket and doesn't get that deer in the headlight look when pressure is applied. Rather, he seemed to keep his focus down field and continue to search for the open man. It looks to be an ideal situation for him to grow and prosper here in Seattle with Hasselbeck most likely having a couple of good years left and Teel being able to sit back and learn from one of the best. With Wallace providing quality insurance, Seattle may have solved their succession of quarterbacks problem that seemed to be looming at the first of the season although it may be a bit early to proclaim that. Teel needs some more seasoning before we can anoint him.

Forsett looked good again and is just an amazing runner for his size. He breaks arm tackles showing good leg strength and is a good blocker when he stays in. As he gains experience in real game situations, he should improve even more. Right now there's no telling how good he could become. He's very much the change of pace back with a unique style that should make teams need to game plan for him as well as the other running backs.

The offensive line did a credible job again last night. After the first 5 play drive, the second string plus Unger played. One thing our offensive line is showing is that it's just about as good with the second string as the first without Walt playing. I'm not sure if that's good or bad yet but whatever the quality, we've got a lot of it. Injuries shouldn't be such a concern since they all play about the same.

Well, it's time to enter the real world now and real football begins in 8 days. I can't wait for this football team to take the field with all it's offense and defense that their capable of running are in the arsenal and the object of the game is to win. Period! No more testing out out young players, no more resting your best players, no more holding back plays and coverages, just 1st string and pedal to the metal. You all know I'm a positive guy for the most part and I'm always the one who does the double take when they lose an opener they are supposed to win because I really didn't see it coming. Once again, I see the Seahawks just dismantelling the Rams in 8 days. From what I was in pre-season, I'd probably bert Seattles second string agains the Rams first.

Of course, you never know, and on any given Sunday, and all that stuff happens, but this year has the feel that Holmgren's last year did before all the injuries and losses piled up and killed the season. I think the Seahawks have a strong team and they will still get stronger for a while yet as they gel under Mora and get comfortable with the new schemes, the game routines, and the positions become set and rotations scheduled. For some reason, it seemed that this one was a long time in coming but it's here now and LET'S PLAY SOME FOOTBALL!

Hasta,

BillT
