After completing his most extensive practice Friday afternoon since returning from knee surgery, there's a chance Walter Jones could play in tomorrow's game at San Francisco.
"Walter just needs to let us know," Coach Jim Mora said. "When he's ready to go, we'll get him in there -- whether it's this Sunday, next Sunday, the following Sunday."
Mora also said the team "can't get greedy" when it comes to Walt's return. Though there's a chance of him coming back this week, the higher probability sits with him coming back next week to host the Bears. The offensive line has gelled surprisingly well in recent weeks, and didn't give up a single sack to the Rams last week. (Despite the fact that the Rams' anemic defense is nothing to be scared of, that's still an impressive accomplishment in this league.)
Mora also added that the coaching staff hasn't quite discussed how the line will be reorganized upon Jones' and (eventually) Chris Spencer's return.
In other news, Lofa Tatupu may have sat out practice this week, but early indications are pointing to him returning to the field Sunday afternoon.
"Knowing Lofa, I expect him to play," Mora said. "Once again, we will wait and see how he feels on Sunday before the game."
It seems as though the team is taking careful steps in bringing back their injured players who would be integral in stopping Frank Gore's bruising running style. Having Lofa back would of course be huge in diagnosing plays and quick tackling. Let's hope for a good performance from Red Bryant if Brandon Mebane can't go.
