This situation is getting ridiculous, but the patchwork offensive line the Seahawks used yesterday garnered the team 379 total yards on that side of the ball.

That's the good news, which we already witnessed in a 41-0 blowout against the Jaguars.

The bad news?

  • Kyle Williams, the team's fourth-string left tackle, suffered a knee sprain after subbing for the injured Brandon Frye. Williams was forced to play through the pain because, well, there's usually no one underneath the fourth spot on the depth chart at any position.
  • Mansfield Wrotto went down with a sprained ankle, being replaced by Steve Vallos. Wrotto will be re-evaluated today.
  • CB Travis Fisher pulled a hamstring or groin, and S CJ Wallace also pulled a hamstring.
  • And of course, Owen Schmitt suffered a self-induced helmet to the face, though I'm not sure "suffer" would be the word I'd use there. Lofa later said that got the team really fired up, but for Owen's sake, I hope he doesn't have to do that before every game. Maybe the team can just watch tape of him doing it every Sunday morning.

Minor injuries to backups aren't that big of a deal, but this team has already seen more than its fair share of bang-ups. The offensive line absolutely cannot go through the rest of the season this way, but Locklear will be back after the bye, and hopefully Williams' and Wrotto's injuries aren't anything serious. It's definitely time to do a little searching on the free agent market for a durable, experienced lineman.

Regardless of injuries, the patchwork offensive line only allowed one sack, and personally, I don't care if it was against a poor pass rush. The fact that the team was literally down to their last left tackle and still protected Hasselbeck that well speaks volumes for what they're really capable of. It was an outstanding performance from them, and from the rest of the offense and defense.

Injuries aside, the end result of this game was exactly what we needed.
