Jim Mora said today that though Matt Hasselbeck will practice Wednesday, there are "no promises" he'll start Sunday against Jacksonville.

It's encouraging to hear Matt will practice, at least. More as we hear it.

Patrick Kerney's status for Sunday is doubtful after suffering a groin injury. Fortunately, Lawrence Jackson and Daryl Tapp have looked promising so far this year, so that's less of a concern.

But really....this is a ridiculous amount of injuries, and it's even more disconcerting that this has happened two years in a row. The silver lining is that no one is on injured reserve (knock on wood), and with two home games and a bye week approaching, let's hope the Hawks can squeeze a pair of victories and rest up with a .500 record.

Just winning two games would do a lot toward turning this season completely around. At worst we split them and come back much healthier after the bye. If we lose both I don't see this season being saved even if all players came back to help.

$1,000 says we lose our next 2 and go into the bye at 1-5.

At the start of training camp the starting 22 and how much they have played through four games:

Hasselbeck - Missed 2 games
J. Jones
Griffith - Missed one game
Houshmandzadeh
Burleson (if you consider Branch a starter, he has missed two games)
Carlson
W. Jones - Missed four games
Wahle - Forced to retire
Spencer - Missed two games
Sims - Has not missed any games yet but is about to miss several
Locklear - Missed two games
Kerney - Missed no games, might miss the next
Cole
Mebane - Missed one game
Redding
Hill - Missed three games
Tatupu - Missed one game
Curry
Trufant - Missed four games, will miss more
Lucas
Russell - Released
Grant

Of the projected 22 starters a mere two months two are no longer with the team, nine have missed at least one game (ten if you count Branch), one will certainly miss the next, and another one might miss the next. That's 13-14 of your top 22 from two months ago. And after last year I thought I'd seen it all.
Groin Injuries

Hmmmm? Is anyone noticing that we seem to be experiencing an inordinate amount of groin injuries? I see a pattern developing and it points to an incompetent training staff and a conditioning program that predisposes players to injuries. Just one other aspect to Ruskell's version of "How to Run A NFL team into the ground ASAP-101." If Paul Allen renews this guy's contract next year, I'm cancelling my Sunday ticket.
