Locklear or McIntosh?  E-mail

Sean Locklear took snaps with the first team offense on Friday, which is definitely heartening news for anyone hoping that the Seahawks will return to full strength as we enter the homestretch. Will it help? Absolutely.

But not this week.

Damion McIntosh almost certainly will, and should, start this week. There is no reason to push Locklear to return this week against a team that -- lets be honest -- if we can't beat with our fifth string LT, the season is pretty much unsalvageable anyway. So, most likely, the Seahawks and Mora push Damion McIntosh out there one more week. McIntosh played just fine last week, so why rush Locklear back from such a painful injury?

Still, as utterly UNLIKELY as it is, the Seahawks are indeed going to be going back to full strength very soon. Is this a real football team or not? We're going to find out in the next three weeks. If we lose this week, the answer is: "no." If we beat the Cardinals on the road (they're 1-3 at home), the answer is still evasive. If we can string together 3 in a row, we're at .500 and have proven something to ourselves.

Is it possible? Hell yes.

Is it likely? With these guys? No.

But it's possible, and at 2-5, we need every scrap of hope we can find.

It all comes down to our execution. If we can eliminate our own mistakes, then we have a good chance of winning in any game. We have to play smart football and cash in when it counts. That means touchdowns in the red zone and getting off the field on 3rd downs for the D. The offense has to be dsciplined in avoiding consecutive 3 and outs. Lets play patient football and move the chains in the meantime, wearing down the other team's D.

5-5 is possible as long as we are excellent with our execution.

Halkboy14, I want some of whatever you're drinking/smoking. LOL. I would be incredibly happy with 8-8 right now. Hell, I'd be happy with a win this Sunday. I'm still watching every play, wearing my jerseys and screaming a the refs, but at this point, the Seahawks have to earn my respect back. My realistic expectations after the first seven games and looking at their schedule is still 6-10.

I wouldn't call Damion McIntosh the "5th string left tackle" but rather just the 5th guy to suit up for the Seahawks at LT. He is actually at worst the 2nd string or backup at that position, as Walter Jones was never the starter this season, and Frye and Williams were both pretty awful. Based on how he played last week, I think it's debatable at this point whether he is any worse at the position than Locklear, and perhaps it would be a better idea to put Lock back at RT (assuming he is well enough to play) and shift Willis back to RG. Then let Unger compete with Sims and Spencer for LG and C. The offensive line this sunday really should be the best it's been since the opening game this year, but I guess we should expect another injury or two against Detroit. Maybe Willis will pull a groin this time, or McIntosh having a season-ending injury would make sense given the way things have gone. smilies/sad.gif
11-5

I am as optomistic as any Hawks fan wearing rose colored glasses. But, 11-5 is a huge strech. We would have beat the Vikings and the Hawks have not proven that they can beat any team with a pulse. The Texans and Packers will be tough too. Our Oline will have to play exponetially better then the last time we played the Cards.

However that being said the only team I see that is a superbowl contender is the Vikings. I could see us finishing strong at 9-7 If we can start figuring out what is wrong with our team. I am leaning toward STTBM in that it is our Offensive coordinator.

I was also thinking that the whole approch to practice may be off. Holmgren said we are going to do this and we are going to do it better then everyone. stop us if you can. Mora says lets go over every situation that we may face then wonders why we have troble executing. Well, Just a thought.

I Like Mora but I am not sold on the above mentioned approach. There is something to be said for the beat us at our game if you can approach. It is like watching a Indy game against Manning. Just stay in the defense that you called and stop letting manning control the game. Well off subject a bit but wow it drives me crazy. He does it just to get a reaction!!

9-7 is our most optomistic but also somewhat realistic chace at a recovery. IMHO

I appreciate the optimism from hawkboy, but just can't drink the koolaid. I hope Lock comes back and I agree with Jack that he should not be competing for LT, that line of thought is what makes the Hawks sub-par. He's a good RT and, when heathy, should have his job back. Next year the Hawks have two first round draft picks one will be the future LT, the other will depend on if Ruskell is still a Hawk.
Locklear for '09
written by LouieLouie, November 07, 2009
Locklear has to play Left Tackle for the rest of '09. There are two questions that he must answer.
1- Will he be the Left Tackle we need?
2- Can he stay healthy?

Only Lock can provide those answers and they will have a profound impact on the 2010 draft. He has to play the position for the rest of '09. His play and his durability will answer for themselves.

McIntosh did play adequately. It is nice to have him as a back up.

Merridew--Excellent points. I too am tired of seeing Ruskell and Mora play OL away from thier natural positions. I dont want to see the best 5 lineman playing, I want to see the best player at each position playing TOGETHER. Thats how to get continuity and build a line. Unger needs to play C, IF we can get someone, anyone, to play RG well, be it Willis, Loclear, Wrotto, or my Mom. I too thought Mcintosh played fine. I thought Frye played well his first game or two as well, he just wore down and got injured possibly from not having spent training camp with us and from not knowing the plays. And Williams is still a guy I want on the team, he just isnt ready to start.

Texashawk--Im glad some other folks recognize that maybe I had some good points before the season and that it wasnt all sour grapes and negativity when I voiced reservations about the possibility of Knapp being hired and that the ZBS might not be the cure-all many hoped it would be.

Funny thing is, from time to time I have bought into Ruskell and Mora's line of BS and drank the blue Kool-Aid as well. I voiced my apprehensions but was still very hopeful after the last two drafts. Its almost frightening how much this season has followed my worst nightmares and deepest fears. Everything I worried about has been proven to be valid, and that should never ever happen. It isnt like I have some special knowledge or inside info, I am simply an overly analytical Hawk-crazed football fan.

Aside from Knapp's pathetic playcalling, the thing I am most disappointed in is Bradley's scheme failing game after game, and Mora's complete lack of leadership. He looks confused and frustrated in the first quarter! And not once has Mora mentioned Accountability (his new favorite word) in the same sentence with Coaches. As if the retarded schemes of this coaching staff are brilliant and woould work if only the players executed them well. Well, from what I have seen, most of the time it wouldnt matter what the players did, the plays arent going to work.

Time for some accountability from our coaching staff, top to bottom.
Locklear ?

LouieLouie - I have to agree - Locklear has a lot to live up to.. he has been hurt in some fashion almost ever year. His appearances ont he left side of the line have not been exemplary.. Color me not impressed, at least as a left-tackle. Getting beat is one thing.. getting blowed off the line is a completely different animal. Left-tackles amy get beat from time to time.. but they should NEVER get blown into the back field.

McIntosh should play LT He did a fine job protecting Hass against Ware...and Lock should play RT- where he excels at.

Locklear is rock solid. This game is over before it's even played, this is lowly Detroit with only 1 win. I really think 7-9 will win this division.

Its amazing how Walter Jones has spoiled all of us...

While no one will confuse Sean Locklear with Walter Jones, Lock has proven to be a solid LT in the league. He may not play at a pro bowl level and he is not the ideal replacment for Walt but he is solid. Save him until we need him, if you add Locklear to this line it goes from horrendous to about average.
Hey Omar

You're right on about Locklear. He'll never be Big Walt, but he might be OK, maybe even solid. He'll never be a reliable LT if he can't stay healthy.

Hey Largent Rules: I don't think 7-9 will win the division. The Niners and the Cards are both better than that. I would like to see the Hawks finish 7-9 or 8-8. That would mean 5-4 or 6-3 from here on this season. At this point, I would consider that to be pretty good.

I want to see Lock start the rest of the year at LT (Matt, please forgive me) so he can prove to the FO once and for all, that he is NOT the LT of the future for this team.
