According to a Rotoworld report, Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen will enter the draft. This is the list of declared and senior QBs to this point (aka, those who will be in the draft come April);

  • Sam Bradford, Oklahoma
  • Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame
  • Colt McCoy, Texas
  • Tim Tebow, Florida
  • Tony Pike, Cincinatti
  • Daryll Clark, Penn State
University of Washington quarterback Jake Locker has yet to declare for the draft and won't likely until the screws are put to him. He has the largest risk / reward potential at stake. He has been injury prone in he past and has not won many games, but his pure athleticism and strong arm make him a near lock to go in the first round. Bradford, Clausen and him are likely all top twelve picks. Still, an extra year of learning under Sarkisian and he could be a real, live, successful NFL quarterback, which in the long run means a lot more long-term earnings than the first contract... just ask David Carr.

I'm not big on any of those guys. Pike I've seen very little of. Of the rest, the last one I'd take is Clausen. He holds the ball waaaaaaaaay too long for the NFL Like you, I'd like to see Locker stay in school another year.
no surprises here

With Notre Dame's future looking bleak- i can't blame the guy to cut and run.

The moment I heard Clausen was sucker-punched by an irate fan I knew he was gone. He busts his behind for Notre Dame all season and that's the thanks he gets.

Yes, I know I'm assuming it was an Irish fan. But in any case if Clausen is going to get that kind of crap while having dinner with his family he might as well get paid for it.

As for Locker, the spectre of a rookie salary cap might push him to leave early when he really should stay. My fondest Christmas wish is for the NFL and the NFLPA to get a new contract figured out BEFORE the draft. That would make things a lot simpler for everyone.

Chris, your point is?
We've already got a good QB, We've got to fix the O line before we even THINK about drafting Matt's replacement. Matt's a good, seasoned, NFL QB, and he can't play behind this line. (nobody could) Getting a QB with one of our first rounders would be a waste. Fix the line THIS year, then NEXT year, we can look at QB. (otherwise, we'll end up with another David Carr...) Hopefully Locker is bright enough to realize that another year under Sark will help him immensely. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a Dawg fan. His improvement in this year alone has been tremendous...Another year at the U dub and he may well be a top five pick. (he'll loose money on his rook contract, but make it up when he turns out to be a true stud...)

I say pass on every one of these QB's this year.

Tebow- Never been under center, plays in the shotgun spread, windmill throwing motion. Relies on legs.

Bradford- Hurt shoulder, plays in the spread, stats inflated from his offense and the conference he plays in.

McCoy- Small, also plays in the no defense Big 12. If we were to draft one in the later rounds I would actually prefer McCoy over anyone.

Clark- Doesn't even need an explanation. He's not good.

Clausen- Too cocky for his own good. Attitude has killed him at ND. Also struggles against any team with a descent defense. Similar to what Quinn did at ND.

Locker- Really struggles with accuracy. Also has a tough time with decision making. Turns the ball over in the red zone.

These guys are all flawed and I just can't see them being good at the next level. There are some better QB's making their way up in college right now. Luck, Barkley, Canfield, and McElroy all seem to be better molded for the pro game. We need a LT, S, and a DL before QB. But who the hell am I?

Seems like when you analyse any player it ends up looking negative. That list names the top college QBs. Are we really saying they're all shit?

I think i'd use my top picks for essential needs immediately, qb problems are the least of our worries at this point. Besides, maybe Teel is a great project. This isn't even close to last years qb draft with Sanchez and Stafford in the top ten.

I agree with everyone that said hold off on qb in the draft if bradford didn't get hurt i would say take a shot at him , but none of these guys are blowing anyones doors off. I would rather try to get a Teel a good look of pick one up in free agency. I think they have bigger holes to fill ol,s,dl. I the offense has fallin short this year but has kept us in must games outside of Indy, vikings games. If the defense could've came up with some big stops when it counts we would be lookin at 6-4 or even 7-3 and 5-5 we'd still be alive( If they win out 9-7 still have a chance). We need a big D lineman and a shut down S look how Trot Palamolu has an impact on the game Bob Sanders, Brain Dawkins they all change games we need a hard hittin big play maker. Someone who can get that int when we need one and stop drives. D lineman that can collapse the pocket or a DE that can get that 3rd down sack. We have two first round picks this year if we miss on these two and don't get two franchise players it will hurt this franchise big time. Does anyone remember last time we had two draft picks in the first rnd. Anyone Bueller, we only pickup our franchise LT by the name of Walter Jones and what a starting five year corner Shawn Springs. That year is what jump started our turn around. If we hit on this draft and solidify two starting position for the next 4-6 years will be sittin pretty and drafting a qb will not do us any god unless hes a no miss pick and i just don't see this class having one of those guys in it.

I'm with you guys, loyalty is more important than winning. I don't mind wasting first round draft picks and settling for 3-6 wins over the next 3 seasons as long as we can keep Matt under center. Who needs a quarterback of the future like a Sanchez, Tebow or Claussen when you can draft the greatest paper tiger of all time with Curry, look at all he's done so far...incredible! Hass can be our Jake Delhomme, former pro bowl buds who were the best of the worst the fallen NFC had to offer back then.
It would be nice if the Hawks drafted a QB and offensive LT in the first round, but rebuilding a failing offense makes too much sense.
The good news is this Sunday because we can always count on a blowout against the Rams and we can talk up the Hawks rejuvenated offense for another week or two!
