To look on the bright side, this gives Unger a good shot at making the starting LG position. He is still raw, but is probably our best interior offensive lineman until further notice.

This sucks. Hopefully we can sign Curry in the next couple hours and get him into practice so we can at least have some good news today.

Can't say I'm surprised by this news. Sure am glad we picked up Unger.

Feel bad for Wahle, though.

Bummer. Kind of ready for him not to play much longer anyway. Sure glad we have Unger otherwise this would really stink.

Anyone know how this affects the salary cap situation? Wahle retiring, as opposed to being released?

Good thing Cory Withrow just signed. Lets hope the combination of him and Unger offsets the Wahle loss.

I hate to lose his experience, but haven't had the time with him to get attached, like Grey or (hand over heart) Mack.

Unfortunate. I was hoping he would come and kick butt for us. If this is true, thanks for coming in and working for the 'Hawks.

I meant to ask if his salary still counted against the cap total, or if retiring gave the Hawks the cap space.

Not that 1.1 Mil is a lot of space.

Too bad. He was so excited to become a Seahawk, and we needed help so badly--it seemed like a perfect fit. Obviously, when I cautioned everyone on his signing that Carolina knew something, and that he may have built himself up too much, I was afraid of this. I just wish I had been paranoid and flat-out wrong.

Still, Unger now has the job to lose, lets just all hope to hell Spencer and either of WRotto/Willis/Sims can effectively man the C/RG spots, or else Ruskell had better be in his secret lab right this minute working triple time to clone Unger...

We really really need this offensive line to come together and sort itself out. I dont think I can handle a fourth straight year of watching our patchwork offensive line destroy our season...

Still, Jones/Unger/Spencer/Sims-Willis-Wrotto/Locklear sounds a lot better than last years line. I just wish we had resigned Pork Chop Womack to play LG or RG this year opposite Unger. Then we would have been set.

He was pretty much washed up before he got here. That's why the Panthers let him go. Signing him last year was a prayer that wasn't answered. If he was playing at or near his prime this would be sad. As it stands, this is probably no great loss other than one of unfulfilled potential.

Bring on Unger! Let the future begin!

i look at it as a positive. if he's not going to be 100% then i'm glad he's retiring. everything is new this season, so might as well give our "line of the future" the most time to gel.

Unger should have little to no difficulty with a Zone Blocking Scheme, as that is what the Ducks use. Transitioning to the speed of the pro game is another matter, however.

Oh well. Sometimes, the best way to teach someone to swim is to throw them in the deep end.

It’s official. The Seattle Seahawks released offensive guard Mike Wahle today, along with center David Washington, and signed offensive linemen Grey Ruegamer and Cory Withrow to fill their roster spots.

Wahle, 32, started 138 games in his 11-year career. He started 10 games for Seattle in 2008, but succumbed to season-ending surgery on his right shoulder last December. It was the same shoulder Wahle had previous surgery on to repair a torn labrum while he was in Carolina.

Seattle also placed cornerback Marcus Trufant on the physically unable to perform list.

Not sure why Trufant would be on the PUP list. Never heard there was anything going on with him.

Trufant has been placed on the PUP - no word yet on any specifics. OUCH.
