A simple question. Do you Addicts think the Seahawks are sending Paul Allen a message about their head coach that couldn't be said in any other way? Despite rumors that Mora will be given a second year, the team is making a statement every week on the field that seems to be saying they won't play for Mora.
Are the Seahawks really a bad team or are they just through with the current coaching staff and using the only real messaging system they can to get their point across? Ruskell asked the team to beat San Francisco for him when he retired and the team responded. Since then, they seem to only be playing out the season. Not much of an endorsement of Mora.
What do you Addicts think? Is the team giving their opinion of Mora with their uninspired play? Let's go ahead and make this one an "R" rated one too.
Hasta,
BillT

In the Hawks defense, Tampa Bay did just beat a Saints team that was trying to nail down home field advantage for the NFC title game. Talk about two teams heading in opposite directions.

He seems like a nice guy. Is that reason to keep him?
I'm OK with starting out new. Mora is not a superstar coach. Let's find one.

I would like to start off with saying that I have been a seahawk fan for over twenty years which is one of the only things I can truly say I have done for twenty years. You have brought this team great hope during your ownership, however, as of late that hope has turned in to embarrassment. This team under Jim Mora is embarrassing!! He is unprofessional and does not take responsibility for his lack of coaching skills. I remember the day that Holmgren was announced as head coach and the excitement that all seahawk fans had for the seasons to come. That has gone away and I'm not saying that Holmgren was the answer but any retard can see that Mora is far from it. If for some reason you read this blog, please keep this in mind and fire Jim Mora!!
Thank you, SGTSEAHAWK

I just saw the post game show and I can't believe that nobody is calling out Mora. They hint at it, but no real statement.
They are calling out the talent of his team, but I don't think the team is THAT bad. They look un-inspired.

If we're going to rebuild we need to commit to it fully and handle the process the right way by leaving no room for error. We need a new staff, new players, new mentality. The only guys we NEED to keep are the young guys who are still realizing their potential and also the linebacking corp if they can get their act together.
written by Scott_Hall, December 27, 2009
Yes I believe the Hawks have given up on Mora and hopefully if retained JM will find some worthy coordinators of the NFL level not the little college schools that only watch the NFL on occasion.
Bright side is we will have a top 10 pick since we didn't get it from Denver like we all thought going into the Season.

YOUR TOP MONEY PLAYERS ARE THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE LEAGUE. Im sure that the entire coaching staff has a lifetime record below .500. The smartest thing I saw them do was actualy put unger at center instead of the left handed gypsee . And that took them two weeks. Ive seen it all for the last 25 years, and I have never been so embaressed. Can you imagine what forsett could do with a NFL line.Or How about hasselback. How much money are we blowing on recievers when he cant throw or go. Do you think uper management will draft another noterdame flop. Paul are you going to pay real money to fix this or is all of it tied up in the Blazers.

I keep hearing about the team wanting to keep Webster around, but I am not sure that learning under Ruskell is that much of an asset. I do believe Ruskell may have made some nice culture changes in the Hawks front office, but I am sure Liewicke can carry that over without Webster. This team needs a full overhaul, and I wouldn't cry if the coaching staff got overhauled in the process.

My point was that you cannot determine a coach's potential just by the 1st season. Nobody thought of Belichick as a "football genius" after that 1st season did they? It was after his superbowl wins that he got that Genius label, but how would he ever have gotten there if he had been fird after his 1st year?
My point is everyone deserves the chance and with adequate players surrounding him, i think Mora can bring us to the promise land

I'm sure the offensive line players are not great Mora fans. I'd bet he lost them.
Everyone's just playing for their jobs and trying to not get hurt.
Why can't coaches devise scheme's that suit their talent and take less that two seasons to learn?
Whaddya mean they're still learning the system. Thats BS.

There's no playmaker on this team who can carry it when things are going wrong. And lots of things, big and little, have gone wrong this year. It's been snowballing since week one, and no one -- coach or player -- seems to be able to stop it.
The saddest thing about this year is how Seahawks fans seem to be taking a perverse delight in competing with each other to say the cruelest thing about the team. Even the postgame guys on TV are doing it ...

*The Good- I noticed that Lock and a few of the O-Linemen began to scuffle in defense of Matt when it looked like one of the Packers was trying to bite Hass on the leg.
Give Mora credit where credit is due. The O-Line started to show some of that "dirtbagginess" the coach wants (in route to the 48-10 blowout).
written by CarolinaKB, December 27, 2009
The things that bother me and make me wonder if he is part of the problem is that this team actually played better and more competitive football when they were learning a new system and had multiple injuries in the beginning of the year. The explanation of learning a new scheme isn't valid anymore. The other thing that bothers me (in hindsight) is the signing of TJ Houshmanzadeh which Mora greatly advocated. I didn't realize that he was a "me" player prior to his signing. I don't care how good of a receiver he is...having a personality like that in the locker room is bad news. Especially when the road gets rocky like it is now. Now he's mother f'ing Mora up and down the sideline.
I'm running out of excuses for Mora at this point. It will be interesting to see how everything pans out. At this point, I almost can't see a new GM being content with heading into next year with Mora on the sideline after the way this year is ending up.

I wrote about this just recently where I thought trading Hass to Cleveland made sense because they could use him and he would fit what's going to happen there. We're not going to be able to make use of his veteran talents anyway for the next year or two as we start rebuilding our team. We need to get our next QB identified and under center learning his craft.
If we can get anything useful for Hass, I suggest we get it now or forget about getting anything in return for him in the future. He probably still has some value particularly to MH but I doubt he will after another year.

I think it's pretty obvious they have.. For all the bad teams out there you can argue this is the WORST team in the NFL right now for that reason alone..
Mora may have said that things were on the line for this team after the Houston game and that should have included him cause it's obvious the Hawks are a mess and a thorough evaluation and cleaning of house are needed.. And it can start with Knapp and again his bonehead play-calling..
written by Jay from NJ, December 27, 2009
The problem is, you can't polish a terd, and the o-line is downright shitty. That really cripples the offense. Teams are sitting on the short passes because they know Hass has no time. Hass is getting beat to hell, and is trying to make stuff happen. He's really not that bad, we all know that.
To me the problem is the defense. I know part of it is the fact that they're always on the field. They've been good stopping the run for the most part. I know the DB's are better than this, but they are getting torched every week. The only explanation that makes sense is scheme. There's no possible way that every DB is just worse this year.
Overall this team has a bunch of talent, but no leadership or quality coaching to speak of. They need a new leader and a new identity.
written by Riggle, December 27, 2009
I'm sure they have not. The sports press in Seattle is too nice. There are reasons why Mora is not in New York, Philadelphia, or Chicago. He would be eaten alive, and he knows it.
It would be nice if the press would ask some tough questions like:
"Specifically what changes have you made to stop this team's descent, what were their outcomes, and why did they fail?"
written by IndianaHawkFan, December 27, 2009
written by TacomaHawk, December 27, 2009
The team is not responding to Mora collectively, while at least a few have quit on him individually. Add to that the fact that the team is just not as talented as we'd all like to believe and you get what we saw today.
It's very hard for me to advocate firing a coach after one season, but at the same time I just can't think of a single redeeming factor for Mora.
I don't think trading Hasselbeck is a viable option. Who'd really want him besides Holmgren? And why would Holmy give anything up for him when his contract is due to expire next year? Hey, it never hurts to ask, but if the Hawks are serious about moving on they will need to bring someone in to play until Teel or whoever is ready, and that would signal Holmy to just wait for Hass' eventual release.

written by JohnnyB, December 27, 2009
There's no point in lying about it. Why would he? So it must be true. So the team in not quitting on him.
Now about the new GM keeping Mora. Leiweke will not make it a condition for the new GM without giving him a good reason. In other words, he will say to the prospective GM, "Here's why we think we should keep Mora for another year: A,B,C,D...etc" Either the prospective GM will say, "Hmm that makes sense, okay." Or he'll say, "No thanks, see ya!" He might even say, "Hey Todd, here's why that doesn't make sense..." and he'll talk himself into the job and Mora out.
The one thing Leiweke won't do is make the retention of Mora an unimpeachable option for the new GM unless he's an idiot, and by all accounts, he's not.
written by hawksfan80, December 28, 2009
You got that right! Paul Allen let Ruskell run this franchise like it was his own personal business pushing Holmgren out a year early and hiring all his friends i.e. Mora & Company. Ruskell probably viewed Holmey as a future threat to take his job.
written by hawksfan80, December 28, 2009

Exibit A is the quarterback who tore us up Sunday morning. He's going to be tearing up defenses for years to come. I don't know if Teel is the future for us, but he does need to play. I hope he starts against the Titans. He sat for one year (minus one game), and I theink it's time for him to jump in.
There are a few veteran QB's out there. One guy to look at may be David Carr. He was a perfect example of what can happen when a rookie QB is thrown to the wolves with no O-Line to protect him. It damaged him physically and mentally, but now that he has been sitting behind Eli, he may be worth taking a risk on.

Their emotions are coloring their perceptions, and they're echoing whatever mean things they've heard said about Ruskell, Mora, Leiweke, Hasselbeck, Branch, etc.
The crowd is in an ugly mood and you can hear a lot of mean, nasty things from them. But recognize it for what it is: mostly uninformed griping and searching for a scapegoat.
One of Coach Mora's homilies is absolutely true: it's in adversity that people reveal their character.

I think it's time to look for a new QB, Hass has lost the edge, you can see it in his throws and his decisions to throw the ball up instead of sitting on it.
Never did i think after 25yrs of being a fan that i would see how bad we look.
Mora has to make changers but its now too late. The best change is for the new GM to can the stiffs and get people who know what they are doing.
God help us fans if we have to go through this in 2010
written by Mike Harden, December 28, 2009
Most teams struggle following a complete overhaul of a coaching staff because players don't fit the schemes and dead weight needs to be cut. Holmgren built a solid core of players, which are now older and having injury/production issues. Ruskell shored up the bottom/middle of the roster which helped propel us to the Superbowl. But we saw what happened with Holmgren the GM and we are witnessing what happens with Ruskell the GM. I just hope we find someone sort of inbetween those two for evaluating talent - less boom/bust of Holmgren and more "risk for talent" than Ruskell.
But it's clear we're rebuilding. Hasselbeck is good to keep through the end of his contract, but I don't think we'll be good enough to make a run at the Superbowl while he's still capable of playing at a high level. So we should draft a QB to groom next year and let him take over in 2012 (after the lost 2011 season due to the lockout).

You truly are a fan and as so should get better product for your money. I look at the positives like maybe getting Okung in the draft. When i come down to AZ next time to visit family or just travel around, i'd like to get together and buy you a beer, seriously. Same as Seattle or Tacoma fans, which i frequent more since my mom lives in Vansterdam. It sucks ass to have a losing team but even worse when they up and move.

If this is who we have making business decisions for our team, it's going to take a LONG TIME for this team to get back to being competitive.
It took the Cardinals 30 years to finally win 10 games in a season. If this clusterfuck continues, it might take us at least that long.
Hasselbeck jersey, meet garbage can.

What we're hearing from the players, however, suggests that they never did.
So what explains the poor finish? Poor fit between scheme and personnel. Often goofy play-calling. An aging, injured QB. Freelancing WR's not running the routes the plays called for. No pass rush from the front four.
That's just for starters. It's a long list.
