A simple question. Do you Addicts think the Seahawks are sending Paul Allen a message about their head coach that couldn't be said in any other way? Despite rumors that Mora will be given a second year, the team is making a statement every week on the field that seems to be saying they won't play for Mora.

Are the Seahawks really a bad team or are they just through with the current coaching staff and using the only real messaging system they can to get their point across? Ruskell asked the team to beat San Francisco for him when he retired and the team responded. Since then, they seem to only be playing out the season. Not much of an endorsement of Mora.

What do you Addicts think? Is the team giving their opinion of Mora with their uninspired play? Let's go ahead and make this one an "R" rated one too.

Hasta,

BillT

I really don't know what it will take to get rid of Mora.. It really blows my mind that Mora sticking around is even an option!! Are we really trying to find a GM who will stick with Mora??? What kind of bullshit is that.. He is not an NFL caliber coach, and I really have to question anyone who can honestly say that he should get another season. FUCK JIM MORA!!!!!!!!

I do believe that how this season is ending will cost Mora his job. The new GM will not be required to keep him.

In the Hawks defense, Tampa Bay did just beat a Saints team that was trying to nail down home field advantage for the NFC title game. Talk about two teams heading in opposite directions.

Fire Mora...NOW!

Yes, the team is done for the season. I wouldn't be surprised if they are already packing up for the off-season, planning vacations, and in their minds saying later to Jim Mora. It's rumored that Tampa Bay is going after Bill Cowher. We need to be going after him now before Tampa gets him.
Why Keep Mora?
written by Riggle, December 27, 2009
He hasn't responded well to this crisis. He does not inspire his team, as measured by their play. In fact, the more the team plays for him, the worse they play. His staff selection was questionable. His game planning is clearly poor.

He seems like a nice guy. Is that reason to keep him?

I'm OK with starting out new. Mora is not a superstar coach. Let's find one.

Dear Paul,
I would like to start off with saying that I have been a seahawk fan for over twenty years which is one of the only things I can truly say I have done for twenty years. You have brought this team great hope during your ownership, however, as of late that hope has turned in to embarrassment. This team under Jim Mora is embarrassing!! He is unprofessional and does not take responsibility for his lack of coaching skills. I remember the day that Holmgren was announced as head coach and the excitement that all seahawk fans had for the seasons to come. That has gone away and I'm not saying that Holmgren was the answer but any retard can see that Mora is far from it. If for some reason you read this blog, please keep this in mind and fire Jim Mora!!

Thank you, SGTSEAHAWK

Any GM worth his weight will not agree to taking on a job that does not allow him to choose his own coach. If he does, he isn't worth the hire as his hands are basically tied behind his back before he starts. Adios Mora.

I just saw the post game show and I can't believe that nobody is calling out Mora. They hint at it, but no real statement.

They are calling out the talent of his team, but I don't think the team is THAT bad. They look un-inspired.

Mora is an embarassment to this franchise and this city. They way he handles business and publicly throws players under the bus is total bs. Hopefully he will be gone after this season and we can get a coach capable of properly leading a team and winning at this level. Not to blame it ALL on Mora though.... Plenty of our players need to be shown the door as well.

If we're going to rebuild we need to commit to it fully and handle the process the right way by leaving no room for error. We need a new staff, new players, new mentality. The only guys we NEED to keep are the young guys who are still realizing their potential and also the linebacking corp if they can get their act together.

As a die hard Seahawks Fan. I am in disbelief as to our current play. I can only point the blame at JM since he put together his coaching staff. there were plenty of good coordinators out there on the market and even some we could have even retained from Holmgren's tenure. instead he wanted a staff he wouldn't have any arguments with and he got what he was looking for! so did the rest of the team. a coaching staff that can not be effected on the field. how many of you watch week after week and can identify changes or adjustments that need to be made? (we aren't the paid professional's and we get it) i'm certain the player's get it and that's why they are playing with the lackluster performance on the field.

Yes I believe the Hawks have given up on Mora and hopefully if retained JM will find some worthy coordinators of the NFL level not the little college schools that only watch the NFL on occasion.

Bright side is we will have a top 10 pick since we didn't get it from Denver like we all thought going into the Season.

I was really trying to support Mora, but I'm done. I think Mora is gone. No quality GM will take this job and be bound by a coaching staff that has led this team down into this state of dispare. Time to clean house. On the same note, I think Hass has come to the end of his time here. He's got one year left on his contract, so maybe it's time to ship him out and get a 4th rounder or some sort of compensation for him. YOUR TOP MONEY PLAYERS ARE THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE LEAGUE. Im sure that the entire coaching staff has a lifetime record below .500. The smartest thing I saw them do was actualy put unger at center instead of the left handed gypsee . And that took them two weeks. Ive seen it all for the last 25 years, and I have never been so embaressed. Can you imagine what forsett could do with a NFL line.Or How about hasselback. I have one question why did we give up so much much and use a third round pick on Deon Butler. He is terrible and not a very good pick up.Here are a few players that were selected after Butler we could have drafted instead.Louis Murphy fourth round pick who plays for Oakland has 24 catches for 462 yards and 16.5 avg with four tds.Johnny Knox fifth round pick for Chicago has 45 catches for 527 yards and 5 td's and his qb may be worst than Hasselbeck this year.Or fourth round pick Austin Collie who plays for indy only has 53 receptions for 567 yards and 7 tds.Now we know why Russel quit.Holmgren probably didnt take the job because he wouldnt be able to fire Mora and it would have broke his heart to release or trade Hasselbeck. Please Paul Allen we need to hear you say something about this team.

The team hasn't quit on Mora. They are just this shitty. This is who they are under direction of Ruskell and leadership of Mora.

I keep hearing about the team wanting to keep Webster around, but I am not sure that learning under Ruskell is that much of an asset. I do believe Ruskell may have made some nice culture changes in the Hawks front office, but I am sure Liewicke can carry that over without Webster. This team needs a full overhaul, and I wouldn't cry if the coaching staff got overhauled in the process.

My point was not to compare Belichick and Mora in the way they coach.

My point was that you cannot determine a coach's potential just by the 1st season. Nobody thought of Belichick as a "football genius" after that 1st season did they? It was after his superbowl wins that he got that Genius label, but how would he ever have gotten there if he had been fird after his 1st year?

My point is everyone deserves the chance and with adequate players surrounding him, i think Mora can bring us to the promise land

There's no playmaker on this team who can carry it when things are going wrong. And lots of things, big and little, have gone wrong this year. It's been snowballing since week one, and no one -- coach or player -- seems to be able to stop it.

The saddest thing about this year is how Seahawks fans seem to be taking a perverse delight in competing with each other to say the cruelest thing about the team. Even the postgame guys on TV are doing it ...

*The Bad and the Ugly - too obvious.

*The Good- I noticed that Lock and a few of the O-Linemen began to scuffle in defense of Matt when it looked like one of the Packers was trying to bite Hass on the leg.

Without being in the locker room and seeing the dynamic I can't be sure. I was pumped when Mora got the job being a home town guy with great enthusiasm and some measure of success in the league. He has been on coaching staffs with a lot of high quality coaches that have had a lot of success in the league. He also was able to learn from Mike Holmgren for a couple years and has his father's input and influence to pull from.

The things that bother me and make me wonder if he is part of the problem is that this team actually played better and more competitive football when they were learning a new system and had multiple injuries in the beginning of the year. The explanation of learning a new scheme isn't valid anymore. The other thing that bothers me (in hindsight) is the signing of TJ Houshmanzadeh which Mora greatly advocated. I didn't realize that he was a "me" player prior to his signing. I don't care how good of a receiver he is...having a personality like that in the locker room is bad news. Especially when the road gets rocky like it is now. Now he's mother f'ing Mora up and down the sideline.

I'm running out of excuses for Mora at this point. It will be interesting to see how everything pans out. At this point, I almost can't see a new GM being content with heading into next year with Mora on the sideline after the way this year is ending up.
What? Again?

I wouldn't stay up late if the 'Hawks fired Mora. On the other hand, there's such a dearth of talent on this team that it's hard to say that another coach would do any better. I mean, Mike Holmgren was 4-12 last year. On the other hand, they are absolutely lifeless. And they make mistakes -- like interceptions after a receiver falls down -- that seem to be the result of a lack of concentration. That kind of thing I'm comfortable laying at the feet of the coaching staff.

I agree that Hass would most likely be more confortable finishing out his career with Holmgren even as a backup/mentor than spend a couple more years in turmoil here. The Seahawks on the other hand are not going to be making any waves for a couple of years yet until they get this team straightened out. By then Hass wouldn't be of any use to them anyway.

I wrote about this just recently where I thought trading Hass to Cleveland made sense because they could use him and he would fit what's going to happen there. We're not going to be able to make use of his veteran talents anyway for the next year or two as we start rebuilding our team. We need to get our next QB identified and under center learning his craft.

If we can get anything useful for Hass, I suggest we get it now or forget about getting anything in return for him in the future. He probably still has some value particularly to MH but I doubt he will after another year.

I think it's pretty obvious they have.. For all the bad teams out there you can argue this is the WORST team in the NFL right now for that reason alone..

Mora may have said that things were on the line for this team after the Houston game and that should have included him cause it's obvious the Hawks are a mess and a thorough evaluation and cleaning of house are needed.. And it can start with Knapp and again his bonehead play-calling..

written by Jay from NJ, December 27, 2009
Of course they quit on Mora. I just can't understand how 3,000 miles away, sitting in my basement half-drunk, I can see adjustments needed on this team and Mora looks like a deer in the headlights. He makes that face like he went all-in against a full house with a pair of 2's.
The problem is, you can't polish a terd, and the o-line is downright shitty. That really cripples the offense. Teams are sitting on the short passes because they know Hass has no time. Hass is getting beat to hell, and is trying to make stuff happen. He's really not that bad, we all know that.
To me the problem is the defense. I know part of it is the fact that they're always on the field. They've been good stopping the run for the most part. I know the DB's are better than this, but they are getting torched every week. The only explanation that makes sense is scheme. There's no possible way that every DB is just worse this year.
Overall this team has a bunch of talent, but no leadership or quality coaching to speak of. They need a new leader and a new identity.
The Seattle Sports Press Makes Nice

"Has anyone in the media asked if Mora thinks the team has quit on him...?"

I'm sure they have not. The sports press in Seattle is too nice. There are reasons why Mora is not in New York, Philadelphia, or Chicago. He would be eaten alive, and he knows it.

It would be nice if the press would ask some tough questions like:
"Specifically what changes have you made to stop this team's descent, what were their outcomes, and why did they fail?"

The team is not responding to Mora collectively, while at least a few have quit on him individually. Add to that the fact that the team is just not as talented as we'd all like to believe and you get what we saw today.

It's very hard for me to advocate firing a coach after one season, but at the same time I just can't think of a single redeeming factor for Mora.

I don't think trading Hasselbeck is a viable option. Who'd really want him besides Holmgren? And why would Holmy give anything up for him when his contract is due to expire next year? Hey, it never hurts to ask, but if the Hawks are serious about moving on they will need to bring someone in to play until Teel or whoever is ready, and that would signal Holmy to just wait for Hass' eventual release.

Almost every week Mora says the team is playing hard and effort isn't the problem. He said it today after the game. This is in response to questions from the press. Now either he's an idiot, he's lying through his teeth, or it's true. The guy has had some limited success in the NFL, he can't be so stupid that he can't see guys quitting right in front of him and on tape. It's obvious when you see it on tape.

There's no point in lying about it. Why would he? So it must be true. So the team in not quitting on him.

Now about the new GM keeping Mora. Leiweke will not make it a condition for the new GM without giving him a good reason. In other words, he will say to the prospective GM, "Here's why we think we should keep Mora for another year: A,B,C,D...etc" Either the prospective GM will say, "Hmm that makes sense, okay." Or he'll say, "No thanks, see ya!" He might even say, "Hey Todd, here's why that doesn't make sense..." and he'll talk himself into the job and Mora out.

The one thing Leiweke won't do is make the retention of Mora an unimpeachable option for the new GM unless he's an idiot, and by all accounts, he's not.

Exibit A is the quarterback who tore us up Sunday morning. He's going to be tearing up defenses for years to come. I don't know if Teel is the future for us, but he does need to play. I hope he starts against the Titans. He sat for one year (minus one game), and I theink it's time for him to jump in.

There are a few veteran QB's out there. One guy to look at may be David Carr. He was a perfect example of what can happen when a rookie QB is thrown to the wolves with no O-Line to protect him. It damaged him physically and mentally, but now that he has been sitting behind Eli, he may be worth taking a risk on.

I'm pretty indifferent to keeping Mora. I'm willing to give a shot that the second year is better than the first (after all, how much worse could it get). Same for Knapp and the Defensive coaching staff.

Most teams struggle following a complete overhaul of a coaching staff because players don't fit the schemes and dead weight needs to be cut. Holmgren built a solid core of players, which are now older and having injury/production issues. Ruskell shored up the bottom/middle of the roster which helped propel us to the Superbowl. But we saw what happened with Holmgren the GM and we are witnessing what happens with Ruskell the GM. I just hope we find someone sort of inbetween those two for evaluating talent - less boom/bust of Holmgren and more "risk for talent" than Ruskell.

But it's clear we're rebuilding. Hasselbeck is good to keep through the end of his contract, but I don't think we'll be good enough to make a run at the Superbowl while he's still capable of playing at a high level. So we should draft a QB to groom next year and let him take over in 2012 (after the lost 2011 season due to the lockout).

Greg Knapp couldn't put an offensive game plan together that would beat a High School football team.

Anyone who has ever witnessed Dan McGwire firsthand will attest.... it CAN get worse folks, believe it or not.
Mora

If we are going to fully rebuild... maybe we should just trade all of our draft picks away for (more) future picks and commit to suck for '10. If we're going to suck and be a laughing stock (like the last 3 weeks) we may as well keep Mora around. No need to waste a new, good coach and give them a team of bad players. Let Mora deal with an 0-16 season before we add the talent in future drafts.

Jeff Bernard, i wasn't speaking about you at all.
You're a regular poster here, i was just curbing the negativity. All teams have roller coaster rides to varying degrees. As Shakespear would say "WE absolutely sucketh!"
You truly are a fan and as so should get better product for your money. I look at the positives like maybe getting Okung in the draft. When i come down to AZ next time to visit family or just travel around, i'd like to get together and buy you a beer, seriously. Same as Seattle or Tacoma fans, which i frequent more since my mom lives in Vansterdam. It sucks ass to have a losing team but even worse when they up and move.

Leiweke: "Any GM we hire to come and join our shithole, will do so on our terms."

If this is who we have making business decisions for our team, it's going to take a LONG TIME for this team to get back to being competitive.

It took the Cardinals 30 years to finally win 10 games in a season. If this clusterfuck continues, it might take us at least that long.

Hasselbeck jersey, meet garbage can.

Well, with today's news that Mora has been fired, it's clear that upper management has quit on him.

What we're hearing from the players, however, suggests that they never did.

So what explains the poor finish? Poor fit between scheme and personnel. Often goofy play-calling. An aging, injured QB. Freelancing WR's not running the routes the plays called for. No pass rush from the front four.

That's just for starters. It's a long list. smilies/sad.gif
