The Seahawks cut DE/DT Derek Walker in order to free up a roster spot for Mike Hass (rather than place Burleson on the IR), and as a result he has been picked up on waivers by the rival San Francisco 49ers. Not a huge deal, but he is the second standout undrafted free agent that we have lost in these roster shuffles. It likely won't mean anything one way or another, but I'm still ticked off about Michael Bennett, so, y'know. Whine whine whine.

He woudnt have made the team next year anyways.Did anyone see Mora's press conference today.I kind of feel bad for the guy.Mora is in need of a vacation. And Chris could you please talk about the draft a little bit.Rob over at Seahawks Draft blog has been a little slow and I need to talk draft.Does anyone object to taking Dez Bryant.I am just wondering what people are thinking.

No receivers or CBs in the first three picks. That was a Ruskell type move. A receiver can only catch if his QB has time to throw. A DB can only play a WR for 4 or 5 seconds before the WR can shake loose.
I Like Dez Bryant too and would love to have a WR over 6 damn feet on this team, but why buy a fancy porch light if the foundation to your house is crumbling. Lets get a NFL quality line for our "O" and our "D" then we can draft the pretty boys.
Just my opinion of course.

Also I wonder if this team is paying attention. We look like the dumbest team in the league providing all this great raw talent for everyone else. I am also pissed about losing Bennet, especially for a bunch of WRs that are not making any impact at all.

One thing that sets us apart from good teams is our lack of a big play receiver or back. We have settled for average playmakers and it is very evident now. Carlson suffers with no one to stretch the field. The best o lines in the league aren't comprised of all first round picks. They are lines that have talent but most importantly continuity and communication.

Mike Hass!? I guess it doesn't really matter, neither of these folks will make an impact more than likely.
Draft! Draft! Draft!
Let's take 2 offensive linemen with our first 2 picks! I would love either Russell Okung, Bruce Campbell, Trent Williams, Anthony Davis, or Charles Brown in the first round. Okung being the only justifiable first pick of course. And if we could get a beat down guard or an elite safety. Man. I miss April.

normally such a move would elicit little more than a shrug of the shoulders, if they cut him then he must not have been doing well in practice.... but Forsett has me questioning this team's talent evaluation, so conventional wisdom kinda goes out the window. Seems dumb not to place Burly on IR at this point.
And please, no WRs or LBs. Not only are they not needs for this team, Dez Bryant is unlikely to be the BPA where the Hawks will wind up drafting anyways.
Need and BPA should dovetail this year in the form of an OL, DL (end or tackle), or a shutdown CB.

Someone explain to me how WR is not a need on this team...We have NO go to receivers. Housh will be 33, Branch will be cut, Burleson may not even be resigned by a new GM, Butler is not even close to #1 material, Obomanu is a #3 at best. Who else? Mike Hass? We wonder why Hasselbeck checks down all the time. And with his replacement coming in soon who does he have to throw to? I'm not saying to ignore the lines but we need the kind of playmaker that every other team has and we don't.

Hey Hawksmack, yes I saw the press conference. Jim Mora looks haggard, exhausted, weary, etc. I actually felt pity for the guy. When you look back and remember the fire he had in his soul, burning for a new start as a head coach, I'm actually in awe that it turned out this bad. After the press conference I truly believe that he will be back for another year, but I got the feeling that we will see some major changes with Coordinators, other coaches, and possibly the schemes. Jim Mora will be back a second season, that is a given.

I remember it too. That initial press conference had so many of us jacked up about the season. And now it is what it is.
Granted, the Walker move was insignificant and probably won't mean a thing (positive or negative).
Nevertheless, this is the art of stupidity (not putting Burleson on IR and being able to keep Walker around). I mean, if the team is serious about saving money... I'm sure there are other ways...

Hawkz111,
WR is not as big a need as other positions. The Hawks need talent on both sides of the line more than they need a WR. They also need to find Matt's replacement.
If Dez Bryant stood out like a sore thumb as the best player available where the Hawks pick then it would make sense. It's my opinion he will not.

Burleson wasnt placed on IR because Jim Mora and his pal Knapp are desperate to win their last game in a feeble attempt at polishing the turd that is this season.
If Mora is brought back, let alone Knapp, we might as well go hire Tom Flores to be GM and Allen might as well sell the franchise back to the Behring family at a loss. Because it will again resemble the Behring years in Seattle.
The difference between the 1992 team and this one? They had the best defense in the NFL. We have one of the worst. They had Chris Warren, who ran for like 1500 yards. Our leading rusher wont even have 800 yars. They had no qb, we have an aging Pro Bowler with tread left--yet we suck as bad as thier offense did.
At this point, our team is worse than the 1992 team. Hands down. Why is there even any talk of bringing back the coach who brought us so low so quickly?!

We Need A Great Offensive Line

This team has a great deal of needs. WR is one of them. Mike Hass is not the answer. I can't believe that the OC is playing a proficient slot receiver like Housh on the outside. There is no separation between Seattle WRs and opposing CBs.
I would prefer to rebuild the offensive line and go with players like Russell Okung and Mike Iupati in the draft. Build a great OL and Shaun Alexander will look like a great RB and Hasselbeck will look like a great QB. Build a great OL, and the rest will follow.

We do need a playmaker, something we have not had since Galloway and pre 06 Alexander. I think Forsett is a playmaker, but not the type of playmaker a CJ Spiller would be. I also think Butler can be a pretty good player but I doubt hes going to be as much of a playmaker as Bryant or Golden Tate. We can upgrade these posistions but QB/OL/DE is more important.
Keep a close eyes on guys like Bruce Campbell, Tony Pike, Sam Bradford, CJ Spiller, Eric Berry, Derrick Morgan, or Jared Odrick within the first two rounds. These are the guys that I think are most likely to be a seahawk in April.

Does anyone else see how often Weaver makes the highlight films on NFL Network. He is the big, short yardage guy that the Hawks let go this year. He runs quite a bit with the Eagles this year. He is also the RB who could have helped Lock on the right side before releasing to become the outlet receiver.
The problem is, that he was also a major producer last year with the Hawks. They could have really used him this year. Too bad he's playing in Philly.

Losing Walker to the Niners is a dumb and stupid move. Singletary and whoever he has coaching D-line undoubtedly understand that effort is as important as talent, maybe more so, when it comes to D-line play. They will coach this kid up, and get him ready to play us twice a year, if nothing else.
And secondly, put Burleson on IR at the start of the week. If he does have a high ankle sprain he won't be any more effective hobbling in and out of his cuts this week than he would have been last week. If you are going to cut anybody cut Branch, it's not like anybody is going to come in and swoop him up. Yeah they'll sign him away from the team, what a tragedy that would be.
And thirdly what is up with our D-line rotation this year? You are supposed to have your starters play a series or so, have play balls to the wall, get winded, then get subbed by your second stringers. Who, trying to prove they should be on the first team, play even more balls out. And it lets your starters know that if they don't get off their fat rear-end and make a play they will be replaced.
Leaving guys like Nic Reed (and Walker and Michael Bennett when they were here) on the bench, especially on passing downs is just for the want of sense.
apon.

I am not saying we should draft Dez Bryant I just want to know why know one is talking about him.I think we should draft Derek Morgan or Joe Haden with our first pick.I think we can get a great OT with our pick from Denver.Look where Oher fell to mid 20's last year.If I was GM and the the Rams dont take Ndamukong Suh we package our two first round picks and offer the Lions a deal they cant refuse and pick this kid up.Maybe we can get there pick and a third rounder since we dont have one.Its something to think about. When you draft in the top ten I hate to say but you have to draft the best player available. We need an explosive player. Can anyone tell me how well Eugene Monroe played against the Hawks when the Jags came to town. Not all OT are worth the hype.I know Ciron Black from LSU is not rated very high but if you watch the game against Florida he shut down Carlos Dunlap the whole game.

Well Carlos Dunlap is not exactally a guy who gives 110% at a given time. He is the type of player I do not want, all the physical talent in the world yet has no motor, explosion or effort.
THis is why I love guys like Kerney, and Reed. They have that relentless motor that makes them feared and wears down the offensive linemen. I'm hoping for Derrick Morgan because I have seen many people compare him to Patrick Kerney. We know what this defense can be with a feared pass rusher (see 2007 season) so why not replace our aged ace with a new stud?

Omar--The Tampa 2 also requires at least one elite safety, preferably a FS. We have two middle of the road safeties, though Grant is pretty good at SS now that he isnt fast enough to be an elite FS, and Babineaux may get better next year at FS--IF a) Bradley and company pull thier heads out or b) We get a coordinator who knows what the hell he's doing.
Still, I would love to see us get a safety in the first three rounds.
Sad thing is, we need to draft a WR, OT, DE, FS, and RB in the first three rounds--but we only have 3 picks--two firsts, a second, and no third. That means at least two of the holes need to be filled in Free Agency.
My preference, as Free Agency is weak on WR's and RB's this year, would be to find an OL there, and perhpaps do something amazing like fire Kerney and trade for Osi Umenyiora, leaving us the draft to pick a WR, RB, and Safety.
With a Tampa 2 defense and an offense simple as Duplo blocks, speed and precision become absolute necessities. And we arent finding those two things in one package via late round picks and free agents. How many of Ruskells picks at WR, RB, and OL are worth a damn?!
Which is why we better go hard at free agency (without breaking our cap), THEN take BPA at any one of a host of needed positions. But ignoring skill positions like RB, WR, and safety will only dig us deeper. We have two years to fix the mess on the line and improve our skill positions drastically, and we better make a dent immediately.
Its a chicken or egg argument, but reality is we need to improve our trenches AND skill positions.
Sad thing is, if Mora returns (especially if our current coordinators also return) I dont think it will matter much WHO we pick up, the result will still be a turd of a season. Just a polished one.

I don't think we need to rush out and get a WR and/or RB. Games are won and lost in the trenches. With our first three picks, I'd like to see OT, DE, and OG.
If we can get pressure on the QB, we can limp with our existing secondary or find a diamond in the rough in the 4th round. If there is an ace of a safety that drops to us, I'm good with going for an OG in the 4th round. Okung, Morgan, safety, Lupati???
That would be a GREAT draft. We didn't have elite calibre receivers when we made it to the superbowl, so I don't see why we need one now. We did have Shaun, but he was the beneficiary of a killer O-line and Mack Strong's blocking.
We were also able to get to the QB in that nostalgic 05 season. So, this is my wish for our 2010 draft. Hoping for Titans and Chiefs to be victorious this coming weekend. Of course I don't want Chris Johnson to get over 100 yards rushing.
Go Hawks!!!! 5-11 is better than 6-10.

I would love to see the Hawks draft Morgan. But I also think they should look beyond the usual suspects for their poor pass defense. The level of play from the DT position and the secondary has been lacking. While a good pass-rush helps the DBs, good coverage also produces broken passes, throw-aways, sacks and INTs which are even more valuable than sacks. Should Morgan not be there, I would love to see Haden at CB, as well as try to upgrade Colin Cole's spot.
I don't see any big-timers in FA that will help Seattle without giving up draft picks, which I would find unacceptable. I would much prefer the new GM to have a "build through the draft" philosophy and look for "2nd tier" and "hole-filler" FAs to round out the roster, rather than look for the quick fix. Just look what that got us with Kerney... ONE good year. That means biting the bullet and admitting the team won't seriously compete for 2-3 years.

I do like Joe Haden but I think he is a shorter guy, about Wilson's size. Now Wilson is a beast, but I would definitly like to see a guy with size to replace Lucas. How about a Ras-I Dowling type who can play corner or safety? At 6ft2 and about 200lbs that offers alot of flexibility. Since no WR in the division, outside of Donny Avery is a burner, I think Dowling lack of speed won't be a huge issue.

We are in re-build mode come the offseason so please stop fussing about Derek Walker whom you guys have never even seen take a snap at his listed position in the regular season. so please..stop.
Also, enough of this "we need a star WR" crap. We don't need a big star WR, we just need a clutch receiver. A clutch receiver like Wes Welker is a whole lot better than a Chad Ochocinco or Steve Smith. Before coming to the seahawks Housh had the most catches by a WR in the last 3 seasons totalled togethor. He's supposed to be a cluch receiver which is my teams like Minnesota wanted him so bad. So when he produces for other teams but not ours, don't you think we need to look at the guys surrounding him as well as our crappy system?
I remember Carson Palmer making the comment right after Houshs' departure when asked if he perferred Housh or Chad Ochocinco on his team and she said "Im not sure who you want more on your team, a guy who constantly keeps the chains moving in short passes, or a guy who makes the big catch every once in a while." obviously he was referring to Housh about being consistent and I'm not sure if he was having problems with Chad and knocking on him for a reason, but my point is what if we already have that receiver on our team, but we fail to recognize it because of our personel? I mean look at Randy Moss for the patriots and look at him when he was in Oakland... a totally different player.
