Not that it means a whole lot, but here are some factoids I gleaned from the stats thus far two weeks into preseason:
Offense:
- The Offense has been efficient with its yardage, but there has been very little yardage gained. We are currently 30th in offensive yards per game. The upside is that we're 4th in offensive points scored. Some of the lack of yards come from being close to the goal -- we started three series this past game at ~50, the Denver 28, and the Denver 11. The first game we had a number of series starting inside our 10, which affects play calling a bit.
- Greg Knapp's legendary run game has not yet materialized. The Seahawks have gained a total of 164 yards on the ground, 27th in the league, and are tied for 30th in yards per carry. Only Tennessee is worse than us so far, with both teams largely relying on backups. The difference? The Hawks expect Duckett and Forsett to make the team and share carries with Jones. The 49ers are averaging 205.5 yards per game on the ground thus far.
- Our passing yards per attempt is 31st in the league, ahead of only Tampa Bay. The team's QB rating, however, is 7th best in the league with only one interception (off Obamanu's shoulder) to five touchdowns. We have completed 60% of our passes. I did a little breakdown last year that showed our rate of winning is drastically improved when our QB throws for 65% or better.
- Hasselbeck has been at 67.9% completion percentage, and is currently the #1 ranked quarterback in preseason. That is what I would call good news. His passer rating is 111.9. This is the preseason though, and doesn't tell the full story: Tarvaris Jackson is second, Erik Ainge is third, and AJ Feeley is fourth. The closest starter is Tony Romo (5th) with a 106.0 rating.
Defense:
- Overall, the defense has been mediocre, giving up 333 yards per game, good for 24th overall. In the more important points allowed per game, we are tied for 8th best with Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
- We are 7th best on third downs, giving up the first only 34% of the time.
- In rushing yards per game our defense is 2nd only to the Ravens, which is great company to be in. We've given up 68 yards per game thus far, going against LT, Sproles, and some scrubs in Denver (no Knowshon). Yards per attempt is 2.9, which is solid.
- Our pass defense is much more questionable though, as it's ranked 30th and giving up an average of 265 yards per game and 6.6 yards per attempt. Opponents are completing 61.6% of all pass attempts against us. Not good enough.

I recorded the rebroadcast of the game on NFL channel early this am and they showed the game from the very beginning! It is listed on Dish Network to show again tonight at 9pm.
