Only one practice today, and it came with a mixed bag of news (which is basically what all of training camp is about, really). The bulleted list seemed to work pretty well this morning, so lets keep it poppin'!
- Walter Jones sat out of practice with back spasms. This is obviously not in the "good news" category, but it could be worse. It wasn't about his knee, which is nice... Back spasms could be from a ton of different things, Hopefully he'll be back on the field tomorrow or Tuesday.
- Brandon Mebane sat out the last 45 minutes of practice with a bag of ice on his knee. Hopefully this is nothing substantial. I'll be keeping an eye out for him at practice tomorrow morning!
- The Cornerbacks are being run ragged. They've got fewer than the league average even after signing Travis Fisher, and with Trufant on the PUP list they are really getting their sprinting on. Fisher is another tiny CB - 5'9", 180 lbs (Josh Wilson is 5'9", 192 lbs) - and his "rust was evident." Eric Williams says he seems adequate but "more than anything, he gives the Seahawks another body" for one-on-one drills. I don't think this is a bad sign regarding Tru's health.
- Player of camp so far might be Safety C.J. Wallace. Wallace has made the team with his special teams play, but he is definitely making waves on the field in the first weekend of training camp. Today, he broke up a deep pass over Nate Burleson and was disruptive in run drills. If Babs is competing for the starting spot, I don't see any reason why C.J. Wallace couldn't be a dark horse contender in that race, at least at some point in the season.
- Aaron Curry remains unsigned and there hasn't really been a whole lot of talk about it. There will be a lot of disappointed fans tomorrow morning if he remains off the field.
I'll be there in the morning and will be reporting back mid-day. Who should I watch? On my list currently are Cory Redding, Colin Cole, Max Unger, Deon Butler and everyone else, but I'd love some guidance.
