Hey guys, apologies for the mediocre coverage yesterday. I was out of commission and Parker was getting his nails done. At any rate, we're back and here's what you missed:
- Matt Hasselbeck looks and sounds like his former self. Jim Trotter is on Sports Illustrated duty, and noted first and foremost that Hasselbeck is zipping passes in like nobody's business. The fact of the matter is, we already knew this, but because of that the local guys haven't really touched on it much. It is good to see this being affirmed nationally.
- Walter Jones moving well. That is also according to Jim Trotter, who writes "the fact that he's not wearing a brace could explain why he sounds so optimistic about returning strong."
- Day Two Offensive line: Locklear - Sims - Spencer - Wrotto - Willis. Danny O'Neil notes that one of the big changes with the zone blocking system is that the gears become a bit more interchangable. We've already heard that Locklear and Willis will be getting some practice time at the Guard position, and so far Sims (who has looked very good by all accounts) is still holding the top spot at LG. Wrotto being the top guy at the RG position is nice, and plays into what a lot of people (here's lookin' at you, STTBM) have been saying for awhile about Manny: pure zone-blocking guard. Bada bing.
- Justin Forsett blew up the Heater. This may have been the best thing I've heard in awhile. In one-on-one blitz pickup drills, Forsett (who recently tweeted that he has a body-fat content of 4% according to his Friday physical) absolutely blew up David "The Heater" Hawthorne. My understanding is he basically stood him up and drove him back... through Greg Knapp. Do you get points for being awesome, even if it injures your coach?
- One of the big pieces of news from yesterday morning was Mora saying that Patrick Kerney will likely switch sides. If the season started today, Kerney and Redding would be the starting Defensive Ends on the Right and Left side, respectively. This is intended, we presume, to give Kerney a better shot at getting through the season as his bad shoulder will be under much less strain coming from the other side.
- Courtney Taylor is also impressing Danny O'Neil, again trying hard to earn a roster spot after an absolutely abyssmal year in 2008.
Today there is only one practice, and it's at 3:30 pm. No word from Camp Curry, but if he's not signed by tomorrow morning, I start getting worried.
