Hey all, there wasn't a whole lot to report on today, because the Seahawks were given the evening off. Then I got an email from Paul (a reader) with his summary and thought since that was worth posting, I'd get off my duff and summarize.
- The only-moderately important competition for the last couple of WR spots seems to be heating up. Greg Knapp says it's the most heated competition he's seen in his 15 years of coaching, and also mentioned that the team will keep either five or six, not seven, WRs. Obamanu and Taylor would have the edge based on camp, but the preseason games are where it'll actually matter.
- Eric Williams also noted that Aaron Curry looked better this morning and was already up to practicing with the first team defense. Lofa Tatupu sat the day out, but not for injury reasons.
- Chris Spencer's injury is not bad and Mora expects him back in practice as early as this week. Neither Trufant or Jones are expected to play in the first preseason game on Saturday.
Check below the fold for Addict Paul's write-up.
During individual drills I was impressed by the defensive line. Nothing really noteworthy happend besides the D-line looking like they have something to prove. Some fans made some comments to Redding about not being on the Lions anymore and if he was ready to get some "W's" he responded with a howel (not kidding) and point in the fans direction. I love this guy. Same fan asked Big Play Babs if he has his TD dance ready this year and he responded by "I am going into the crowd this year" which we all cheered at.
During 11 on 11 drills the D-line again looked they made the O-line seem not very good. Hard to tell if its our Defense or poor play by the offense.
After 11 on 11 I watched the D-line take on the O-line one on one. That was pretty feisty and at one point Lo-Jack got knocked down by number 70 or 73 ,either way it looked bad. He wasn't happy and some pushing happend right afterwards. You can tell Lo-Jack KNOWS he needs to better this year. He did look decent on 11 on 11 drills btw.
The players that stood out:
1. Kent: He looked REALLY good. Made a outstanding play by leaping in the air over the defender on the sideline. He made some other solid catches that made him probably the standout player of the day. If he can pull it all together no way he doesn't make the team, but then I remember the buffalo game...
2. Forsett: MAN...he looks awesome...When people say he hits the hole quick, THEY WERE NOT KIDDING. Its hard not for me to think why he would not be considered for the starting spot right now. BUT lets see how he does in the preseason against the other teams 1st teams defense before we get carried away.
3 Atkins: Guy was looking fast and agile today. Lots of pressure on the QB.
4. Carlson: Need I say more?...he makes it look REALLY easy.
5. Wilson: Guy is short but he is FAST and can cover some ground. Looks solid.
Players that DIDN'T stand out
1. Wallace, S. : Looked sloppy most of the time but he did make a few decent throws like one to Kent and one to Payne. He also held on to the ball to much which would have lead to a sack/getting killed by defense end, to me anyway...
2. Jones, J: Like someone reported before a few days ago, its not that he looks bad but he isn't doing that much. It seems that Forsett and Duckett are getting most of the team drills. When he is in he doesn't seem to be making a lot happen.
3. The entire O-line: Please let this be our defense...
