Matt Hasselbeck is talking with Mitch in the Morning on KJR 950 AM right now. Here's a direct link to the live feed.

It's been an interesting chat so far. I won't have time to transcribe any of this today (Sully? Bill? Aaron?) but Matt has mentioned that they'll be a much more physical, dominating team this year.

Some things he's said so far:

"We're installing the encyclopedia of the offense right now. There will be some weeks where we'll just shove it down their throat, and there will be some days where we'll go four-wide."

"It'll be hard to take John Carlson off the field. The plays weren't even designed for him last year. He's a great dude, tremendous athlete and a great draft pick. He'll probably be a Seahawk forever."

"Justin Forsett is seriously dialed in right now. The offensive line has also done great with learning all the new terminology."

"I think we're still learning TJ (Housh) a little bit. He thinks he's open all the time. (Laugh) Like Nate, he'll be open, and he'll be like 'I can run by this guy,' but when you're anticipating a throw to TJ, in his mind he's like 'hey, listen, throw this ball anywhere near me right now, and I'll catch it.'"

"All of our receivers have had a great camp. Greg Knapp has said it's the best group (of receivers) he's ever had."

We've been hearing some of this before, but it's no less exciting. Tune in quick if you're awake. Otherwise I'm sure a transcript will be posted soon, here or elsewhere.

Hopefully a mediocre QB like Hass is just good enough to win this weak division once again. We are a quarterback away from a great team.

hopefully Knapp's comments about the WR's reflect the passing woes his offenses have had depsite dominating the run...

i know we're talking Atlanta and Oakland here, but still, while i dont doubt we have a solid WR core of Housh, Nate, Branch, etc... to say the best he's ever coached makes me feel bad for him

theres potential, but the O Line has me worried

Mike K - I think you can safely assume that Knapps passing woes are directly related to who he had at WR and even more so, who he had at QB. When he was with the 49ers, he at least had T.O at WR and Garcia at QB, and the passing game was ranked 14th, 14th and 10th in his 3 years there (rushing was ranked 2nd, 6th and 5th). But once he left the 49ers he had to deal with Vick and J. Russell and groups of no name WRs. They did draft Roddy White in his 2nd year in Atlanta, but only got to use him for his 1st two seasons, but was still handcuffed with Vick throwing the ball.

One thing I did find interesting, a few weeks back on NFL Live, they were talking about Michael Vick and where he would fit into an NFL offense. They mentioned how the Wildcat offense didnt really start in Miami, it just used to be called "The Michael Vick Offense". They then showed a couple of designed plays run by Vick that looked like they were straight out of Miami's wildcat playbook. I think that's one thing that Knapp doesn't get enough credit for. He was stuck with a QB with limited passing skills, that was brought in by the previous coaching regime, but still found a way to use him that apparently was several years ahead of its time.

I want to see Forsett backing up Julius "Whiner" Jones, but if we can get Thomas Jones for a fourth round pick, Id take him. Only problem is he wants BIG MONEY, and we dont have it. We'd have to cut Kerney or Branch or Walt or someone like that. No way. Besides, both Jones' want the ball a lot, and what happened the last time we gave an aging back big money?!

Report: Jets looking to trade RB Thomas Jones

The National Football Post reports that the Jets are "gauging interest" in Thomas Jones and have placed a call to an NFC West club.

The team was probably Seattle, although St. Louis could use an upgrade at backup tailback. Jones is coming off his first career Pro Bowl berth and a 1,312-yard, 13-touchdown season, but has been upset with his contract and turns 31 in a week. He'd likely only cost a fourth-round pick. The Jets will use a 1-2 punch of Leon Washington and Shonn Greene if they can move him. Aug. 11 - 6:42 pm et

Update on that --

Citing "a person with knowledge of the Jets' plans," the NY Daily News has joined that Newark Star-Ledger in reporting that Thomas Jones is not on the trading block.
Beat writer Rich Cimini suggests that the original report was fueled by Jones' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, in hopes of building momentum for a deal to a club willing to upgrade Jones' salary. The Jets intend to be a run-first team this season, so they may believe they need as deep a backfield as possible.
Agree with JDN9

Mucho agree with Jdn9. Regardless of ability can you imagine the enjoyment of listening to Hass followed then by someone like say... Tim Tebow.. Makes me cringe.
