While we were watching one night of exhibition football to whet our appetities Thursday, the Seahawks were busy making the final preparations for their exhibition opener in San Diego tomorrow night.

Some good and bad news came out of practice yesterday. Here's a quick rundown:

  • Walter Jones practiced with his unit, taking on Daryl Tapp and Patrick Kerney in coverage drills. Eric Williams said Big Walt moved well in those situations, and Jones wants to return to practice full-time next week. The short-term goal for Jones is to get on the field against Denver next week. “I felt pretty good,” Jones said. “I think the toughest thing now is just getting the confidence back. Just getting back and feeling confident that you can go out here and still do your job. And I felt good about that."
  • Mora will be letting Aaron Curry spend some time at right defensive end, something that is going to be really exciting to watch. The coaching staff loves Curry's ability to rush the passer so much that they're willing to test his chops at Patrick Kerney's job, something that should speak volumes about this kid's potential. Keep an eye out for how Curry is used tomorrow.
  • Speaking of Kerney, the big DE is going to be a game-time decision for tomorrow night's game because of an "undisclosed injury." I don't like the sound of that a single bit, but all we can do is hope it's nothing that will keep him out longer than a couple of exhibition games.
  • Manfield Wrotto, Marcus Trufant, Grey Ruegamer and Big Walt will not be traveling with the team for the weekend's game. Ruegamer injured his elbow, and Wrotto has "a bruise" according to Mora. Nothing more specific was said.
  • Danny O'Neil also says Chris Spencer could be a possibility to start at center tomorrow, depending on how he's feeling. Like Kerney, Spencer will be a game-time decision. He'll need all the time he can get if he wants to prove himself.
  • And finally, offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and Mora both say they're still figuring out some final pieces to put together, and that this exhibition game will give them a great chance to do that.
"(Knapp and Mora) are more concerned with putting players in certain situations so the team can evaluate them more so then trying to establish a rhythm and continuity offensively.

    Mora echoed that sentiment.

“We are going to try to master some of the things that we do,” he said. “We’ve got some concepts that we’ve got to work though and schemes that we’ve got to iron out. There’s certain players we want to see do particular things. So that’s more important than game planning at this point.”

Even though it's only the preseason, we finally get to see the new-look Seahawks in action this weekend. It's been a long time coming.

Who will you be watching the closest tomorrow night?
